US Men's National Team (11 Viewers)

Kekuta Manneh said in an interview today that he has reached the stage where he can officially apply for citizenship.
Another winger. Can we get a LB that applies for citizenship?

I do like Manneh, he's quick and plays hard. Reminds me of Zardoz but I think his touch and game are better.

How do these salaries compare with an average player in the EPL?  For instance wondering what Cameron or Yedlin make.

They don't release salary information in England so the best you can do is look around the net for sites that get rumors and speculations.  Every so often a real number will drop but it is hard to determine what is correct and what is a guess.

I am going to roughly guess that Yedlin makes between $400k and $1.2m and Cam between $800k and $1.8m.  These are just wild guesses though.

Google search says 480k for Yedlin and 1.6m for Cam. Both USD.  Cam got a 100k bonus this season.

=====

The United States' 23-man roster for Copa America Centenario will be revealed by Fox Sports during halftime of the New York City FC-Red Bulls game at Yankee Saturday afternoon.

Kickoff is at 3 p.m.

Rob Stone will host the halftime show alongside studio analysts Eric Wynalda and Cobi Jones.

An interview with head Jurgen Klinsmann is set to follow roster announcement.

The tweeter world is saying that Cam and Fab both entered camp hurt.  I don't think they are practicing yet so it would not shock me if neither play this weekend.

Here is the TV schedule for the upcoming friendlies

===========================

vs Puerto Rico: May 22 12:00pm ET, FS1/UDN/Unimas

vs Ecuador: May 25 8:00pm ET, ESPN2/UDN/Unimas

vs Bolivia: May 28 8:00pm ET, FS1/UDN/Unimas

Here's the full 23-man squad list:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids), Ethan Horvath (Molde IK)

Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting KC), Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Monchengladbach), Michael Orozco (Club Tijuana), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders/Forwards: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (FC Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Jermaine Jones (Colorado Rapids), Perry Kitchen (Heart of Midlothian), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), Bobby Wood (Hamburg SV), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting KC)

I haven't seen much of Kitchen. Thoughts?
I like Kitchen.  He is a steady, kind of no nonsense type holding midfielder.  He is not a star by any means and probably thought he was going to do much better than end up in Scotland after leaving MLS.

He has represented the Us at every level.

He is another of the amazing amount of pro players that Caleb Porter (coach at Portland) had with him at Akron.

Kitchen, Sarkodie, Nagbe, Bunbury, Zakuani, Trapp, Yedlin, Caldwell, Serna and others.

Ok so Fab is carrying an injury.  Are we really looking at Chandler as our LB if Fab can't play?

I am too lazy to look this up, but I think JK just put together a 23 man roster which contains close to 0 LB appearances over the entire previous/current club seasons.

Lichaj, Ream and Castillo all played some LB this year but none made the roster.

Fab himself did not have a single appearance at LB according to whoscored.com this season with Gladbach.

JFC - Wondo?  And what the hell is the idea with this roster?  We should be using this tournament to phase out players like Wondo and Beckerman.  Hell, even Clint should be moved to a sub role.  ugh.

As expected, todays lineup is a mashup.  5 probable Copa starters mixed with 4 players who did not make US Copa roster.

...................Guzan

Yedlin....Orozco.....Brooks.....Ream (hey look a LB)

Morales...........Kitchen......Williams.....Bedoya.....

........Wood.......Arriola

So how bad is Puerto Rico? I was the best player in my high school team. That's how bad.
There is very little positive to take from this game.

If a player plays well, the competition was so poor, it won't matter.

Of course the reverse is true.   Anyone who plays poorly is going to have a stain on them for a long time.

And he opens the scoring today for good measure

So a question not about the game.

Why does Puerto Rico have their own team and not just feed players to the US Soccer program? Is it the same for places like the USVI, Guam, etc?

Just curious. Seems like those places could feed a few players to the program over the years.

I think they talked about this just before the game.  Wahl clumsily try to suggest that FIFA loves having more nations than the UN and PR is considered its own nation by FIFA.

Guam and USVI are also considered their own country by FIFA

Like that the US kept playing there.  PR didn't kick it out when they had the chance either.

Also, are refs instructed to stop the game and never play advantage if a play that would usually see advantage given involves a second yellow for a player?  Would be funny to see a player score a goal in-between the advantage and the next stoppage if he was on a yellow and the ref was waiting to give him a second/red.

I have seen many delayed yellows over the years so I think it is up to the ref.

Including a 2nd yellow leading to a red?  Would be a bitter pill for a player to score a goal before the ref got around to awarding the 2nd yellow.
I do not remember that ever happening.  I think I misunderstood what you said.

This is what I thought the scenario was:

Team A is attacking

Team B commits a late yellow card foul but the foul does not disrupt play

Team A continues with their advantage.

Once Teams A's advantage is lost, ref stops play and issues yellow to Team B

Just finished watching the Copa del Rey final.  I'm not sure it's the same sport.
Yeah. I was talking to my buddy during that one about how excited we'd be if someone like Jeremy Mathieu was one of ours. We'd even be flipping out over a Rafinha in our lifetime.

it is so true.  Look at the players Spain left home for the Euro's, it just makes you drool.

Hell, forget the very good players, even some basic quality Argentine player like Diego Valeri would stand out in the US lineup simply because we don't produce players like that.
