Using Draft Dominator to Evaluate Trade (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Just finished up the auction for my main keeper/contract league. Towards the end, I had one of those moments when an an owner say, "so what would you give me for X" and you throw something out titlted towards you and the other owner says "sure". I normally like to crunch the numbers before making ANY deal, but I didn't want to let the fish squirm off the hook, so I quickly said, "Let' do it!". It just seemed obvious.

Then I put the trade into Draft Dominator. Lo and behold, my Team Strength (for starters) dropped! I immediately wondered if I just screwed up by making the deal

So I don't intend this for to be an assistant coach's forum question (i.e., asking for an evaluation). Rather, I'd like the Sharks to give me their thoughts on whether DD's Team Strength is the correct tool or even an accurate tool for evaluating the trade.

In case you need the details, below are the details of the trade, my team, and the league and scoring.

I trade Cadillac Williams and Andre Johnson for Maurice Jones-Drew and Matt Hasslebeck

Roster Pre-Trade:

QB1: Roethlisberger (trade was to upgrade this slot)

QB2: Schaub

RB1: McGahee (hoping to upgrade with MJD)

RB2: Benson (slide McGahee down)

RB3: Caddy

RB4: Adrian Peterson

RB5: Michael Turner

WR1: Holt

WR2: A, Johnson (willing to move due to depth - note that I can start a WR/TE)

WR3: Burress

WR4: Mark Clayton

WR5: Holmes

TE1: Gates

TE2: Gonzalez

TE3: Miller

Starting Requirements: 1 QB, 1 RB, 1RB/WR, 2 WR, 1 WR/TE, 1 TE (ignoring D and K)

12 teams, non-PPR, 4 pts for passing TD, 25 passing yards per pt, -2 for fumbles/ints, 6 pts for rush/rec TD, 10 rush/rec yds per pt.

I won't even comment on your assistant coach scenario but as far as the dominator and trades, it's worked for me in the past. I play in a league where we only have 3 trades ( though they could be multiplayer) by the end of the year My players are minimum of 5-15 % better based on the dominator... I always make the playoffs . I mean you can use it to really make the trades lopsided but then the trades would be vetoed anyway. I just try to make my team a little better each time, I'm not looking to fleece the guy just get better and if I can help the other team in some way, that's OK too because everyone will see you trade fairly and not shoot your offers down so quickly.

What did you expect when you trade a starting NFL RB and a top WR for a back-up RB and a slightly above average QB???

Fair enough. But for the purposes of this example, consider that DD was set with the following projections (standard FBG projections):MJD: 191Caddy: 147(+ 44 pts)Hasslebeck: 191 Roethlisberger: 187(+4 pts by replacing Ben with Matt as starter)A. Johnson: 151Burress: 145Clayton: 121I guess the key is that the +44 doesn't count. I only get credit for +7 over Benson (who drops out of the lineup). Versus I get -30 for going from Johnson to Clayton.I guess I still feel better knowing I get to choose between MJD, Benson, and McGahee for two spots and I feel pretty good about Clayton meeting AJ.

I'm a big fan of MJD. That was a terrible trade for this year.
Yeah, to avoid making this a AC post I didn't point out that Caddy is signed for only 1 more season and MJD is signed for 2 more seasons. And Caddy is twice the price of MJD.
Well, that's information the Draft Dominator can't evaluate. There's no question you downgraded your team, but if it gives you long-term stability you might be happier that way.
