Using the Pick Value Calculator for multi-pick trades (1 Viewer)

I like to use the Pick Value Calculator as a starting point when considering pick trades, and then I look at ADPs of players in those ranges to see what players would be available in those picks I'd receive (and if they'd make the trade worth it). But I've stumbled upon a possible problem.

In this theoretical situation, the following trade is thrown into the PVC (and then flushed into the sewer...oh wait, different PVC). This is a 12-team league with a serpentine draft.

Team A gives:

Pick 6.04

Team B gives:

Pick 7.09

Pick 9.09

According to the PVC, this represents an 87 percent improvement. But while that's the pure trade, it's not actually the whole truth. Team A still must draft the same number of players, so he loses one player at the end of his draft. Let's say there are 20 rounds in the draft. So do you include that last pick as part of the trade when calculating in the PVC?

Team A gives:

Pick 6.04

Pick 20.04

Team B gives:

Pick 7.09

Pick 9.09

This represents a major difference in the PVC's calculation, with the improvement coming in at only 13 percent. I understand each pick is given a value, but realistically, any player picked at that 20.04 position is coming off the scrap heap. So is it necessary to include that last pick in this case at all? Or is the first value (without adding the last pick) more accurate in terms of value?

You kind of hit on a point there, where the PVC should probably have a variable entered for the number of rounds in the draft, and maybe even the number of teams in the league.

I have no idea what formulas are used though and how they can change it, but I've often wondered when using it if it was completely accurate missing those (what I consider) important variables.

you do realize that the pick calculator used full numbers right? Pick 7.09 (in a 12 team) = pick 6x12+9 or 81.

If you enter it as 7.09 it thinks you are talking about pick 7

What, the calculator can't read my mind?

Well, that was pretty stupid of me. Thanks for the correction.
