Why can't you get rooms at the Rio?   And WTF, I am in Cherokee a few times a year.   Was just up for last WSOPC.   I got my Rio rooms free because of my rewards card,  diamond.
Yeah I'm not diamond yet. I could get a good rate at Rio but I'd prefer to stay on the strip. I hear there are soft cash games and MTTs all over the strip during the WSOP

UPDATE - Looks like I can stay for damn cheap at : Harrahs, Flamingo, Ballys, PH, and Linq. Talking average per day of less than $20 (plus resort fees but that's about the same at all of these).

OF the casinos listed above, which would you recommend? I'm mostly focused on WSOP so I'm not too concerned with amenities, but are any of them far and away better than the others?

My only experience is with the "GO room" at Flamingo, which I liked.
The shuttle to Rio runs from Bally's and from Harrah's - I've stayed in a real nice room in Bally's quite a while ago after they did some updates. Liked the small casino atmosphere - elevators ran smoothly without a boatload of people coming on or off all the time.Bally's is also next door to Paris so you can stroll into it easily.

What are the odds they'd have tickets for:  La Reve, AbSINthe, MJ ONE, LOVE, or Zumanity?
A tip for Absinthe tickets. If you head to Caesars, there should Absinthe promoters giving away coupons outside the tent that's a bigger discount than the tix4tonight kiosks. I found this out the hard way last summer.

Also, are there any lesser-known shows in Vegas that are worth investing some time/$ into?  Or stick with the known entities?

Has anyone rented a car to drive to Hoover Dam?  Is it worth it?
No IMO.  Check out Valley of Fire or Red Rock Canyon.  Maybe even Grand Canyon.

Verified as of 2 weeks ago.

I've gotten tickets for Absinthe and Zumanity at those booths.

I was able to get them the day before...so just go to the line at the booth (easy one at Planet Hollywood) and ask the people who work the line with the ipads.

They can tell you real quick what is available and whether or not to get in line.

So, um, penciling in a late August trip with a ladyfriend. Ladyfriend is into all sorts of adult fun. She's not much of a gambler, though, so this will be other types of debauchery. So, questions:

1) What good hotel rooms offer good space for 'activities'? I guess there aren't many hotels with in-room jacuzzi tubs anymore, due to health codes?... What about showers big enough for two (or... three)? Anywhere still have the old-fashioned mirrors on the ceiling?

2) Any good Adult shows we should hit? I'm assuming Zumanity is good, we could probably fit in one or two burlesque type shows and/or more.

3) Any good attractions? I see there's an Erotic Museum she'll probably enjoy. Anything else on the Adult side we should look into?

4) Any of the strip clubs more female-friendly than the others?
There's a show at Luxor called Fantasy you might be interested in as well.   Treasures was recommended as a very couples friendly club. I don't speak from personal experience.  Ran out of time  :bag:

Is she a porn star?

Zumanity was good

Can't help too much on the rest though

RE: #1. The junior suites at Caesar's Palace has both jacuzzi tubs and double showers. I'd venture to say, most upscale hotels provide both in mid-level rooms.

Mandalay Bay and a few other hotels offer topless pool areas.

Was there last week with my wife for Healthcon.

Stayed at Rio due to the convention being there. Nice place, but stinks having to get to strip and back.

Ate at BLT Steakhouse using the Travelzoo voucher. Great, GREAT deal. $115 for $210 worth of food. And it was delicious with a fantastic staff.

We were most looking forward to trying the Beef Wellington at Gordon Ramsay steak. Don't. Skip it. The entire experience was underwhelming. Loud, staff was rude and food not much better. When we tried cutting into the wellington, my filet "slid" out of the pastry. So I then had a roasted filet (no sear) and a moist pastry. Flavor was ok. But not worth the money at all. Especially with so many other options available.

Absinthe was great. Not for the weak. If you find swearing offensive, skip it. Don't sit in the front. Especially if you're significant other is attractive. A few very good acts. My wife and I liked the roller skating couple the best. Though my wife didn't even remember I was next to her when the bathtub guy was doing his thing.

Vegas has changed since I was last out there 20 years ago. I was most surprised by the people sitting on the corners in costume. Everything from Mickey Mouse to women wearing simply body paint. And they were literally 10 feet from each other! Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact people had their kids here. Why you would bring kids to Vegas, I have no idea.

Wife wanted to hit Carnaval Court at Harrahs. Cool setting with the "cocktail" bartenders flipping bottles, etc. May want to check them out as well.

OK, wife and I are taking a long weekend here early June.  Flying in to arrive local time of about 8:30 on Friday night, leaving Tuesday night on the redeye home.  Right now we are booked at the Delano section of Mandalay Bay for a room that seemed to be a reasonable price (Scenic Suite for about $235/nt after taxes and fees).  I've been reading through the thread a bit but was looking for some specific things and hoping you all can help out.

  1. How was the hotel choice?  Another FBGer stayed here recently and had good things to say about it.  Are there any places that would be as nice or nicer for less money?  Not really looking to spend any more unless it is a little more for a big jump in quality/amenities. I stayed there back when it was THE Hotel and really enjoyed it. However, it is out of the way from the main strip areas, and it is tough to just go outside and walk. I am a big fan of the Venetian because the rooms rock and it is located in an awesome spot for walking.
  1. Wife and I already looked at the Yardbird menu and will probably hit it up for brunch one day.  Place looks perfect for us.  May also do the BLT Steak Travelzoo deal for a nice dinner one night.  Any other "nicer" places that are must-considers that won't also kill me for $300? As I and many others have said, Yardbird rocks. Just be sure to get the fried chicken. Mon Ami Gabi in Paris is great too. They don't take reservations for the outside patio, so just go there and put your name in and ask for an outside seat. It's great after dark because you have a great view of the Bellagio fountains.
  2. What are the best hidden gem/cheap eats places we should make sure to hit up?  I love lunch at the Carnegie Deli in the Mirage.
  1. For activities, I think she wants to see the Neon Boneyard.  We probably won't do Slotzilla as we are going to Zipline in Hawaii in August.  Was considering renting a car one day to drive out to Hoover Dam.  (Is that worth it?) Saw the big happy hour/ferris wheel thing at the Linq and that looked pretty cool as well.  What other things are we missing? My wife and I took a helipcoter to the Grand Canyon. They pick you up in a limo at your hotel, take you to the airport, fly you to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and you have a picnic lunch down there. They fly around down there a bit and fly you back. You also fly right by the Hoover Dam, so you get an awesome view of it. It's a bit pricey, but really fun. The Linq wheel is pretty cool from what I hear, but I've never done it. I do like that alley way that leads back to the wheel. It's pretty cool to walk back there with lots of restaurants and shops.
  1. If we just walk around looking at Casinos as sightseeing one day, which are the ones we really want to make sure we see? Well, IMO, Bellagio, Venetian, Mirage, and Ceasar's are all must-sees. The area around the Flamingo and Linq is really cool too. I alwasy have a great time in O'Shea's, which is over that way and is near the alley I mentioned earlier.
  1. What's the whole deal with the Fremont area?  The deal is that it is a must-see. It is old school Vegas with all the crazy characters you'd expect to see. Especially on the weekend nights, it's a madhouse in a really fun way. You have to take a trip down there just to see it.
  1. Definitely want to hit up at least one show, maybe 2.  If we narrow it down to a few we are interested in, is it best to hit up one of those "same day" ticket places?  Are there some that if we really want to see them we should just book in advance to assure we can go?  What are the best ones?  Not really into concert performers - more of the Cirque or Absinthe types.  Not sure how into racy/burlesque the wife would be. :sadbanana:  A lot of people might think I'm lame, but the wife and I really enjoyed Terry Fator at the Mirage. It's good, clean fun, and he's really good.
I guess that's it for now.  I'm sure there will be more.  Don't fail me, FFA!

Heading out with two HS buds mid-July, Friday-Sunday.  We will likely spend a lot of our time next to a pool with drink service, cabana, etc.

Which Fri-Sat. pool scene is currently the best on the strip?  We're married and in our 40s, if that matters.  Top 3 would be helpful.

1. The one bedroom terrace suite at Cosmo have Japanese soaking tubs. If you get a fountain view room you have an excellent view from in the tub too. The showers are huge, definitely enough room for fun.

2. We really enjoyed Zumanity but want to check out absinthe during our next trip.

3. We really enjoyed the high roller with the open bar, check Groupon for that. I read mixed reviews on the Erotic museum so we didn't go, but let us know how it is if you decide to do it. The Neon Museum was one of our favorite things. Will go again for sure once they complete their expansion in the next year or two .

4. We had a lot of fun at Sapphire. The dancers were great and weren't shy about showing my wife attention if your lady friend is in to that.

As a fellow married, 40-year old I'd highly recommend Encore Beach Club or Wet Republic (in that order).  We went to both last summer and will be there again this June. Although I've never been, I've heard that Daylight at Mandalay Bay is also a great time.

Got in yesterday after getting stuck over night in the ATL Wednesday.  Rooming with getzlap15 hooked up yesterday and was fun to hang with.  We both entered the O8 1500 toyrny.  I busted the O8 tourny, was travel weary and probably dumb to enter it.  Did not play well.  Getz is still sleeping but pretty sure he made day 2 and he knocked out Matusow yesterday.  Got the Colissus at 10am today and hopefully Getz keeps rolling.

Sounds like a blast! Good luck guys!

Good advice, thanks.  Even though we're old dudes we're into house/EDM stuff, so the mixture of DJs with pools, etc. is pretty appealing.

We booked a salon suite at Encore and will be hitting the EBC both days.  We were set to get a cabana, but they start at $2,500...  Not out of the question, but damn.

I'm 70/30 to be in next week to play the millionaire maker.  Just waiting on clearance from work.

Anyone stayed at The D before?  thoughts?
You know what you are getting going into it.  Pay up for a "suite" and its pretty solid, at a fraction of a suite on the strip.  I like playing video poker at the Vue bar upstairs, a couple of small TVs that if you get in with bartenders, will find whatever game you are looking for.  Plenty of cheap food around, as well as an Andiamo's restaurant, which is pretty solid.  Walgreens a block away, and otherwise right in the heart of the Fremont street craziness/experience.

Roy and Ziggy and a couple of the bartenders up there, both good dudes.  Also, they don't have restrictions on free drinks like they do on the strip. As long as you seem to be playing a reasonable amount they will comp you drinks.

"Comp validation systems" are spreading like a plague. We are told they will eliminate people trying to game the system. If you play quarter video poker, you'll need to play 4-5 hands a minute; if you play bigger, it probably won't be an issue. The only one I have encountered so far is at the Chandelier Bar at Cosmo, and it spit out drink tickets slightly faster than I needed them.

Is that possible?   :D

The Vegas I once knew is dead. I know, get off my lawn and all that, but damn. I miss $1.25 long necks and 2-3 drink tickets for a $20 NBA wager

Those cocktails I was pounding at the Cosmo go for $16.

Also, at least one manufacturer is working on an updated Sigma Derby, which is good, because maintaining those old ones is getting prohibitive.

Leaving for Vegas Monday with a group of guys from Houston. We are playing in the WSOP $1,500 NL Hold'em tournament (event #12) which starts Tuesday. Hopefully, the poker Gods will be smiling on us.

Jesus that's horrible.

The GF and I once killed an afternoon watching baseball and playing video poker at a bar in Caesar's Palace. The bartender gave zero ####s... there were times i'd not play a hand for 15-20 mins and get a couple beers in that time. Every so often I'd spin a few times, but he didn't really seem to care. Tipped the guy pretty generously afterward (I think we gave him like $40-50 or so for ~3 hours of service... prob 4-5 drinks for her and a good 12-14 beers for me...all comped

Yeah.  1 cider for the lady and some drink for me was $35 last time at the Chandelier bar.  Still great scenery though.
