Coach: Morency can be 'every-down back'

News: The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Packers coach Mike McCarthy believes RB Vernand Morency is capable for being the club's starting running back, but must prove he can be durable first. "I'm an optimist," McCarthy said. "I like what Mo brings to the table. He went down to Stillwater, (and) his whole time off, he's working on getting ready for the offseason program. I look at an individual that's preparing himself to take full advantage of his opportunity. I think the guy can be an every-down back for us."

I could see GB drafting someone like Brian Leonard in the 2nd or bringing in one of the second tier FA RBs to split time with Morency. This would give him every opportunity to seize the job, while giving GB some fallback options. Either way, someone is going to be in camp to compete with Morency.

Just don't expect a lot of TD's out of Morency or any other RB. When I'm anywhere near the goal line, I'm throwing it because I love TD passes.
