SANTA CLARA -- Twelve days before the 49ers play their first meaningful game of the season, the club's first-team offense returned to the practice field together.
Tight end Vernon Davis took part in 11-on-11 work at full speed Tuesday. It was the first time he has practiced since sustaining a right knee strain Aug. 15 in the 49ers' exhibition opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
It was a sure sign Davis is expected to be 100 percent for the 49ers' regular-season opener Sept. 12 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Also, receiver Michael Crabtree returned to full-speed work after sitting out the first three exhibition games with a sore neck.
It is doubtful whether Davis or Crabtree will play in the 49ers' exhibition finale Thursday against the San Diego Chargers, though.
"I think everyone's attention around the whole NFL is the next week," 49ers quarterback Alex Smith said. "It's getting the roster finalized, getting healthy, getting fresh, getting ready to go."

Veteran safety Michael Lewis did not figure to have much of a future with the 49ers beyond this season with schedule salaries of $5.7 million in 2011 and $6.7 million in 2012.
Now, there will be no drama. The 49ers and Lewis agreed to a reworked contract with a paycut this season and the removal of the final two years of his contract, ESPN first reported today.
Lewis' scheduled $4.1 million salary was slashed to $1.7 million, plus a $400,000 bonus. Additionally, the final two years were eliminated from his contract. That means Lewis will be scheduled to hit the free-agent market at the end of the season. Lewis declined a request to comment on his new contract, a team spokesman said.
The 49ers have done the same thing in recent seasons with quarterback Alex Smith and linebacker Jeff Ulbrich. In these instances, the 49ers determine the player was scheduled to earn too much money. But they arrive at a dollar figure that is acceptable for both sides.
