Anyone notice if VD was used to block more than normal during the game? Or was he out running routes (whether or not he was targeted by JT doesn't really matter).

I didn't see the game, and I understand that SF had the ball for an incredibly low amount of time in the second half. So if there wasn't enough game tape to make a determination yet, that makes sense.

I remember when Witten was kept in to block a few years back and it really caused his stats to drop.

Would like to know. It is almost unimaginable to think in a Mike Martz offense with lack luster WR's that they would use him in blocking a lot. I actually expect them to split him off more than have him stay in the TE position and block. Would love to hear what we actually saw in the game from those that watched.

Vernon Davis averaged 25 YPG as a rookie and 36 YPG last year. He had 51 yards today. If I were you, I'd ask if he ever stayed in to block since he's so clearly ahead of his career averages.

The point of the question is to find out how much he was involved in the offense, not how he produced. Since you brought up stats, what would be a lot more relevant than his overall yards would be how his overall targets this game compared to his targets per game his first two years, or how the the ratio of his plays blocking vs. plays running a route stack up against his career averages. I wouldn't know how to research these.Since these stats are a little much to ask of someone, I'm just hoping to get the insight of someone who watched the game.
