very questionable deal between wife and husband (1 Viewer)

I am playing in a head-to-head points league at Yahoo. The settings are such that relief pitchers are much more valuable than starting pitchers.

The trade deadline is August 15th.

There had been no problems in the league all year until the commissioner (Nitro Cats) made a trade with her husband's team (Canadian Moose).

Here's the contents of a message I posted today-

Last 30 days-

points scored

Cano- 84

Longoria- 54

Soria- 85

Soriano- 95.5

McGahee- 77

Rodriguez- 64

Johnson- 19

Sabathia- 38

The four players Canadian Moose is trading away scored 318.5 points in the past 30 days.

The four players Nitro Cat is trading away scored 198 points in the past 30 days.

We know that relief pitchers are more valuable than starting pitchers in this league.

I know why Nitro Cats is doing this deal, but I have no clue why Canadian Moose is doing it.

Canadian Moose is 8-10 and mathematically is still alive for one of the four playoff spots, but that team's chances are extremely slim. For all intents and purposes, Canadian Moose is done as far as the playoff picture is concerned. With that in mind, I don't even like the idea of such a team trading to a team like Nitro Cats who will clearly make the playoffs. It just doesn't feel right and especially in this case where Nitro Cats is clearly getting the better end of the deal.

It is a 10-team league with only four playoff spots.

There are five good teams.

It looks like after this weekend the top team's records will be-

in one division

15-4

13-5-1 (commissioner)

other division

13-6

12-6-1 (me)

12-7

The commissioner's husband's team should improve to 9-10.

With more four weeks left, he'd have to go 4-0 and get help to make the playoffs.

I believe that he gave up entertaining playoff hopes and decided to help push his wife's team closer to the league title.

This type of crap is causing me to lose interest in fantasy sports- well, at least free leagues with random people on the internet.

I mean, even if the trade was fair value, why do it? The husband has an 8-10 record right now. He's not making the playoffs either way.

1. Keeper or redraft?2.

That's their call, really. I don't think owners should have to justify fair trades.
1. Redraft2. Okay, well normally you shouldn't have to justify fair trades. Thing is, this is not a fair trade when one considers the settings in this particular league. Regardless, one team is 8-10 and will be in the consolation bracket. What is the point of that team making a trade? There is no point.

He should be trying to win til the bitter end. I would. In a redraft you have to try and do everything you can to win. Hell, I'd do it just to be a spoiler. He, and every team, should be free to try and improve their team as they see fit within the rules. And which Johnson is in the deal anyway? And Im guessing thats Rafael Soriano and ARod.

If he was trying to win he would not have traded two closer for two starters. And it's Josh Johnson. I'm going to tell you again that the settings are wacky. The value of a good closer is two or three times that of a great starter. Mat Latos was just picked off the scrap heap in this league this past weekend. C.J. Wilson and R.A. Dickey have been available all year. That's just from off the top of my head. I know there are more good starters like that who are available.

I wasn't discussing the fairness of this particular trade, I was answering why anyone would be making a trade when they're out of it.
