Vick signs endorsement deal with NIKE ! (1 Viewer)

Peeps will always BASH on Vick, but im sure he doesnt give a chit. Nike is doing what the MAN in charge does....He makes money off of people. Even after all that went on VICK is still a major SELLING entity...Every person i talk to want VICK jerseys and ect....Nike know what they doing.
By now, everyone on the boards knows that I am no fan of Michael Vick. But today, when I went to order my son's birthday cake at Kroger, the lady in the Bakery was proudly wearing her #7 Michael Vick jersey (the store is doing a 'football Sunday' promotion this week). There is a segment of the public that still support Vick and wear that like a badge of honor. This is the segment that Nike is angling for by having Vick in their gear - I am not in the least surprised to see them getting cosy with him again. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in commercials again in a year or two (if he starts making plays on the field).

I would be a large sum of money that the first time we see Vick in a TV add, it will be a somber spot with Vick telling people not to abuse animals... and it will be sponsored by Nike.

Look you guys have to understand the story. This is the american dream.....he comes from nothing, made it to the top, lost it all, paid for his crime and now has a chance to make it right. I was born and raised in newport news va, played baseball with michael till 13, watched warwick hs whip up on denbigh hs for four years, then attended va tech for that magical first flip over the goal line. Now it's not like we were best friends but we still talked everyonce and a while. Newport News VA is like many of the places across the country, ROUGH!!! Young kids are exposed to a lot of things when young, you grow up in a hurry around here. He was never a bad kid though. In our high school games Ronald Curry was the man around here at the time, michael was good but hampton and curry were the top. But at VT #7 became superman. Can you imagine the amount of money he brought to the hokies. I remember my freshman year in west aj on campus looking at lane stadium a seeing small bleachers in the end zone. After that sugar bowl run we were able to upgrade to a jumbo tron,, nice. Overnight he became a sensation. Now on to the NFL, he was not only the face of atlanta but the face of the league. Thats a lot of pressure and being where we are from it's compounded with ALL THAT MONEY,,,,wow the money. Friends tag along for the ride and machael still has to remain loyal. IT HAPPENS. He made bad choices, living the ric flair lifestyle as we call it. The disgrace.... he hit ground zero nothing left. Shamed to millions of people. Serving a longer sentence for refusing to give up names. The reality of his decisions had left him nothing but a box to spend his time. And having been in that box before it is truly a horriable place. He is not a bad person but he made a bad mistake. Something i'm sure ALOT of people that turn their nose up at michael have done themselves..mistakes. Now comes act 2....he is released as he payed his debt to society. That's the way this country works. You may not be a bad person at heart but make a mistake, and we pay for those mistakes and return to society. Now he has the mindset and the chance to do great things with his fame. If NIKE wants to sponsor him I say go for it. I for one am proud of him as are many people.

Most people who commit felonies don't really get good second chances. Why are you proud of him? For serving his time? Give me a break, you live in a fairytale land. He's a 3rd string QB, he's never been a good QB, and his career will end badly. He's a crappy person to boot so once he finishes his career on a bench somehwere i hope he returns to work at the local liquor store down the block from you so you two old pals can catch up. :(

Oh wait can convicted felons operate cash registers in VA? He might have to sweep up outside, you guys can talk there.

I don't think you can be mad a Vick for signing easy money. Nike on the other hand...How does Nike think they will get a return on investment with this guy?1. Does Nike think that they will be able to sell shoes in Vick's name? - I would have to think his apparel would appeal to a small demo. Then throw in the fact that most kids won't be getting his stuff (parents won't spend money on him) and don't forget all the competition from other athletes with shoes, etc. It's a very small buyers market for Vick items, Nike has to know this. 2. Nike has to know that there will be groups that will protest this and cause a lot of headaches, maybe even bring up some of the other bad things they do (think cheap labor). Thus they will need to have a PR team on this for a few days... more money spent.Nike's a big company and this won't kill them I'm just confused how they think the reward is worth the risk. Especially since the reward is pocket change to them.
75% of their market probably don't care what he did. 15% probably even thought he didn't do anything wrong.

Wow, this is shocking news.

Is Nike marketing to the demographic of dog killing and animal abusing Americans?

Is Nike marketing to the demographic of criminals and those that support a lifestyle of crime?

Is Nike going to start a whole new line of Michael Vick prison shoes and prison jumpsuits? If so, Nike is taking the whole gangsta fashion to a whole new level,,,prison.

First, let me say I fully supported Mike Vick being able to return to the nfl. These people who have said he should be banned for life have all been overreacting, to say the least.Second, if Nike or any other company wants to do a deal with Vick, I've got no problem with it. Third, this is the first time I've ever heard someone say they're proud of a guy who is a sociopath. That's sort of creepy, actually. And this is coming from a guy who also had a friend in college who was a sociopath.

I won't pay more than $40 for a pair of sneakers, so I obviously don't wear Nike's. If was in that market, this wouldn't deter me from buying Nike's.

Oh boo-hoo. Poor Michael Vick. Had the world on a silver platter and flushed it all down the drain. Sorry, but there are no true do-overs in life. He may have served his time legally, but like every other ex-con still has to live with the consequences of his actions. To me, part of those consequences are not being elevated back to "superhero" status as if nothing ever happened.

my point. the man is not a sociopath. sorry
Wrong. He brutally tortured and killed intelligent animals for entertainment. That is not normal. One of the things that makes us human is the ability to feel empathy for other living things. Vick obviously not only lacks that trait, but is so twisted as to take pleasure in the pain and suffering of those dogs. He intentionally chose heinous ways to inflict misery. He didn't kill them out of necessity. He killed them for pure enjoyment. That's not a "mistake" we all make.

The guy paid his debt to society. He went to jail, lost all his money, and went bankrupt. Nike doesn't even have a contract with vick, they're just giving him free gear. I may not like vick but I think he deserves a second chance.
where do you draw the line in the deserve a second chance logic?

You have a lot to complain about Vick but that is not true. He killed the animals to intimidate the other dogs so they'd fight harder not for entertanment. Don't lie.

(KFFL) FOXSports.com reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick has signed an endorsement deal with Nike, according to his agent, Joel Segal. Vick will wear Nike shoes, gear and apparel as part of the agreement. Segal would not reveal terms of the agreement.
Whenever citing Fox don't post this as if it is true. Say something like "Vick reportedly signs..."

Good for him. I'm rooting for the guy.
Why?
Because some believe a man can make a terrible mistake and turn his life around. It has happened before.
Not to take this off on a separate tangent but I find it hard to characterize what Vick did as a 'mistake'. What he did was not a one-time, unintentional occurrence. It's sickening how these guys take their good fortune for granted. I could go on but.....Interesting this was announced so soon after his reinstatement. I'm sure talks have been ongoing, but the lack of protests from fans and the media fawning over him non-stop last week certainly had to play a big part in securing this so quick.
He did 2 years in Levenworth and lost 10s of millions. It's not like he got away with anything. The guy did his time and paid his debt. Let him live a reformed life and provide for his family.

When these acts transcend to humans. Not animals.Unless the Vick haters are vegans enough w/the hypocricyIf this was pigs rather than dogs nobody would care. Half the haters I've debated wear animal fibers and eat meat. This isn't about animal cruelty, it's about dogs. Unfortunately, most people care about more about dogs than people.

Hyperbole I hope.

With some of Nikes business practices, I'm not sure why they dropped him to begin with, its a match made in heaven ;)

Just the other day, I was having a discussion with someone about whether there'd be such lingering hatred of Vick if he was convicted of cockfighting instead of dogfighting.

Can you supply the English translation to this speech? Thanks.

Not really, I care about some dogs more than some humans. I have no problem with that. I'd save an avalanche rescue st. bernard before some strung out murderous gang banger.I also think charles Manson has paid his debt to society and deserves a 2nd chance. Maybe a book deal too.

Sickening. I will never buy Nike products. :goodposting:
:lmao: Ya... b/c signing Vick to a few buck is SOOO much worse than their slave labour sweats shops half-way around the world. Those are so much more ethical and a completely fine reason to buy Nike products in the first place. Have some perspective, people.
