Victor Cruz (1 Viewer)

Considering how long Cruz has been out there, discussed, noted as "emerging", he finally does it (apparently while being covered by Asomugha for part of the game?) and there's surprisingly little discussion.

A couple years back Steve Smith, Hicks and Manningham all had value in the NYG offense, why not now? Hixon is out for the year, so no more splitting of time.

I am just wondering who out there is taking a chance on Cruz and why or why not.

Thanks.

Someone got to start it, this dude could be a big factor
Until Manningham comes back
I disagree, and I see little evidence being given to defend Manningham as the #2 the entire season going forward. :banned: :banned:
I disagree with your disagreement. If you take a look back to last season, Manningham had an extremely effective year. He does make mental mistakes, but so does Cruz - Manningham is a better WR than Cruz at this point in their careers and IMO will easily keep the #2 job unless he's injured.

I was forced to start Cruz to do injuries (hell yes!), and paid close attention to the game. Cruz did not play as well as his stat line indicated. This is not a Miles Austin type emergence. He had a couple drops and ran a couple poor routes. His speed isn't game changing. That said, I am not cutting him. He could be a factor down the line and maybe even compete with Manningham. He did make a nice catch at the goal line.

For evidence, go back and look at the last month of last season. If he can simply marginally improve cutting down on drops, he can esily be a 'Reggie Wayne in his prime' type presence playing the other side of Nicks. And for Cruz, I temper my expectations, regardless. I am sure there are some Eagles fans in here that can atest that the Eagles might be the worst tackling team in the league through 3 weeks. The one big play he had should NEVER have happened. Guys bouncing off him and such.

I own both in a dynasty league, and was a big Manningham supporter coming into the season. That said, there's definitely no way to make a conclusion on this with the limited info we have now.

Cruz has one big game, and it came without Manningham in the lineup. Unless you think Manningham will sit the rest of the year, that doesn't tell us a whole lot about how Cruz will be used going forward.

Eli had 32, 30 and 23 passing attempts in the 3 games they've played.

Manningham had 7 targets in the first 2 games (22%, 23% of total targets)

Cruz had 5 targets in game 3 (22%)

Manningham had a 50% reception rate on his targets, and Cruz has a 60% rate on a much smaller sample.

There's not a whole lot in those numbers to differentiate the two on a stats basis at this point. This week with both playing with the other a factor will tell us a little more, but its too early to determine this right now.

Cruz outside receiver = good, Cruz slot receiver = not as good, Maybe they can let Cruz play outside and play mannningham inside. there was talk of Manningham possibly playing the slot before the season started if my memory serves me.

This is what I'm thinking.http://gmenhq.com/2011/09/27/who-thinks-victor-cruz-is-still-a-slot-guy/And about the missed tackles....One play is at 00:40 and the other at 02:19. That's a pretty thin line between shoddy tackling and (if it happens more than once) making guys miss. I think Cruz looks pretty good on that first breakaway and then really good on that goal-line catch.http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d8228c371/Giants-vs-Eagles-highlightsCan the Giants really afford to not go to someone who has breakaway potential and who can beat double coverage at the goal-line?

I did the same. All I'm saying is this situation is more of a "wait and see" than a obvious one week wonderkin like some people are making it seem with the return of Manningham.

I am not a believer. I saw that long TD run but it didn't impress me. Compare that run to Cobb's in wk 1. Cobb is electrifying. This guy was just in the right place at the right time. He has good hands and can be a good WR3 or WR4, but I don't think he has a very high ceiling.

After a rocky start, during which he seemed to draw Manning's ire by running a couple of incorrect routes, WR Mario Manningham was apparently demoted. For most of the last three quarters, Victor Cruz joined Hakeem Nicks in two-receiver sets. Manningham played mostly as the third receiver. Manningham, who was returning from the concussion he suffered two weeks ago, said he was physically fine.
It seemed like Manningham was getting a lot of targets early, but even with Cruz's mistake I think he's starting to take over.

I don't disagree with the sentiments about Cruz. But, Cobb is kind of in the wrong place. He has Jennings, Nelson, Driver, and Finley to compete with. Driver still looks frisky in his ripe old age.ETA forgot to add Jones.Also.. I think that Cruz will outplay Hammyhands, look for Steve Smith's numbers from last year. He is in the Right place at the Right time.
