Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I am a heavy console player so I have played all of those.  Great games!

I was looking for pc games that are not on playstation ( I have played a ton of rpg's on playstation so I am looking for PC exclusives like Path of Exile.
I forgot, do you have an XBox? If not Mass Effect is on PC. Try that. Pretty good.

I would look at how you're connected. I have a release day xbox one and have zero problems, connected via Cat 6 to a 1G switch uplinked to my wifi router. Both of my kids have year old xboxes connected via wifi and have the exact same experience as my cabled one. I am on Comcast internet and am ~100M in download.
Unfortunately, not in the same room to run wired, so I run to dual-band router.  Have tried both bands with no change.  I know running it to ethernet will be better, but won't have that option until this summer when I move my office to the living room (that's another story).  Didn't have these wireless issues with the 360.

I have playstation and have played the Mass Effect games.

I have also played many of the Dragon Age games, recommended by another poster.

It sounds like there is not a ton of PC exclusive games.

If

Anybody remember the old legacy of kain games?  soul reaver etc.  got them all for like 8 bucks

The first one was one of my favorite games of all time. I got stuck on a level and couldnt figure out where to go. I swear it must have been a glitch cause I scoured the level for hours and hours and even restarted and got stuck in the same place. Has always bothered me to this day. I doubt the game holds up as I dont even remember much other then I loved it.

That's what gamefaqs are for.

I have heard it holds up ok.  it's funny I got a really high end rig and I am going to be firing up soul reaver.  lol

Just got the entire Thief series off Steam for like $15. Don't know much about it, but I love stealth games so I'll give 'em a shot.

Baldur's Gate 2 has never been topped, imho. It's older, so you don't need a powerful PC to play it.

Pillars of Eternity is pretty good as well.
If I was to try Baldur's Gate (never played it the first time around), should I buy the Enhanced Edition?

Dude this was 1996. There wasn't alot of info out there on the ol Netscape Navigator.

I just went and watched a video of the first one on the PS1.I think I could play it. Looks hella long judging by the 3 video playthrough. I can see why I liked it. Enjoy your ride down memory lane.

You need better wifi, that's the issue 99% sure.

Fixed it.  There are tons of PC exclusive games, but most of them are indie and/or genres that you're probably not interested in.
Guild Wars 2, Pillars of Eternity, Stardew Valley, Legend of Grimlock, Darkest Dungeon are some PC exclusive RPGs that quickly come to mind.  I'm sure there's more, but that's what Steam, Good Ol' Games and Humble Bundle can help with.  Hope that helps you get started.

There aren't many mainstream PC Exclusives. It's just that PC is usually the best version when multiplatform games come out.

Darkest Dungeon is on Playstation now.

Except by Planescape: Torment.   :boxing:
heh heh, yea, Planescape was amazing as well. I guess for some people, it got a bit text heavy, but it was a great story. Both of those games have plenty of characters that you really cared about. Funny ones, too. Would love to see Morte and Minsc in the same party.

Haha.  Yeah i played them a few years after they were out

cool!  Thanks.  I think they made an enhanced version for both of them a couple of years ago to get the graphics up to date.
The Neverwinter Nights series isn't as good as BG but it's the same style and is still pretty good. If you are looking for PC exclusives you might look in that late 90s - 2000s era. Witcher 1 is another one in that category.

IGN started around 1996.  You could find walkthroughs for games on the message boards that were available on it at that time.  I remember printing out a move list for one of the Mortal Kombat games in 1995 (I wanna say MK3) from some site.  In fact, it may have been from gamefaqs - which started in 1995.  I just refused to buy strategy guides, even back then.

So, just because you didn't know about it, doesn't mean it wasn't out there.

I just checked out Legend of Grimlock on youtube and that looks fun!  I have not played a old style dungeon crawler in a long time.

Pillars looks a bit wordy for me (I don't like to read a ton when playing).

I will check out Guild Wars 2 next.  Thanks for the suggestions!

I'd consider upgrading, but I got the Netgear R7000-100NAS about a year or so ago.  It was rated one of the best routers on the market at the time.  I can't imagine I can upgrade much from there.  But I'm all ears.

Has anyone played Guild Wars 2?

I can't figure out what version I am suppose to buy...  I see there is a base game, which on some sites says is "free to play" but then there are also expansions....

Any advice?  I have always wants to try an MMO but never wanted to deal with the subscription fees and from what I can tell this does not have any..

Download the free to play client.  It's been a while since I played, but the expansion was all high level content so you won't benefit from paid expansions yet.

Get the free client and see if you like it. It's one of the better MMOs out there now.

The free to play is a good start.  It has several limitations, such as with chat and trading and stuff.  I think you can still max out your level in free to play if you wanted to.  It's probably a good way to try the game and see if it's something you want to sink money into.  note: I'm not a Guild Wars player, so this advice doesn't come from someone very familiar with the game.  But it's how a friend of mine, who is into it, explained it to me.

Switched to playing Shogun 2 (instead of Rome 2) and my brain is busted. There's a lot going on. Civ meets Command and Conquer but in Japanese. And my mouse and keyboard skills are at zero. I'm constantly struggling to keep my viewing angle where I want it.

I'm going to need to find a money cheat or mod. I went bankrupt in the tutorial some how.

It's different.  once you get the hang of it, it's one of the better ones.

not sure I'm ready for that - I just started Total War -

Lord of the Rings Online is free to play and all of the free content is pretty vast. Spent a lot of time in it when it was pay.

Hmm, the nighthawk is a good router. There is 100% something going on with the network though, there isn't any throttling settings on the xbone, I'd look at the router settings and make sure that there isn't any throttling policies or restrictions setup.

ETA one thing to test is to buy a 50' or longer ethernet and just plug it in for testing purposes. If that works like it should then I would look at the router settings and start looking for wifi interference where the xbox is.

One thing I learned with XB1 is that the downloading occurs up to 75%. After that it's installing the game. At least that's what I read. It makes sense based on my experience though because it'll blaze through the first 75% and then crawl to the finish from there.

But again just speculation. Who knows what's really going on inside there. Maybe the hamster just gets tired.

Yea, I haven't dabbled much in the tanks as I find them fairly boring, but the air battles are addictive.
I'm probably not going to fool with the ground forces either, as I've already put years into a competitor - World of Tanks. From what I've read, WT is much more realistic for tanks, but that makes it much slower and campier.

Will look into it when I get some time.  Been working two jobs and overwhelmed lately, especially with the holidays coming up.
