Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Finally had a true session with it today. Getting the hang of it. So of course its becoming more fun. I have been real hesitant to spend upgrade points on animal taming so far. My main issue is that a lot of the time, I just can't see. Or if I can, not well enough to distinguish friend from foe. Expected better on the PS4.
This is one of the few games that I played enough to get 100%. I would recommend spend the points to Level up the owl as much as you-- it's going to be key for you to take out forts and stuff like that.

Loved using that Owl to wreck their #### over and over.

Felt the itch to play a little Bloodborne.  I have the digital version but deleted it a while back.  No worries though -- I can just re-download it.  Except I started my download at noon, and I'm still an hour away from having the bare minimum that will allow me to play the game.  PSN is so freaking slow.

I finished my first run through Dark Souls 3.  Put in around 45 hours to complete the first play through.  The game certainly stands up to the 4 previous incarnations IMO.   Very well done.

The hardest boss for me, by far was the Nameless King.  I could not figure out the second stage for the life of me (and yes it took my life many many many times :) )  I finally relented and summoned some help and killed him on first try.

I am probably going to put this aside for a while before maybe trying a different character.   I am leaning towards focusing on Doom next.

I had a blast playing that game

Not a huge difference, but there are some interesting tweaks:

  • Picks can be traded with lottery, top 3, top 5, top 10 protection (which makes trading with bad teams for their picks harder during the season).
  • You can work in expansion to the franchise, I don't think that was an option before.
  • One added step for the off season is own meetings.  The CPU will generate some rule changes the owners vote on.  You can override their vote to allow, or reject any of the changes.  Some of the votes I've seen are: bringing in an expansion team, removing the shot clock, changing the time limit to get over the time line, changing the three second call to five seconds, stuff like that.
  • Free agent period is longer (more days).
It's not a huge change to the experience, but it just about everything new is an upgrade.

I'm still working on the actual game play.  Needing to "time" you shot on the layup is my single biggest frustration, but I'm also still working on the timing for shooting three pointers.  The defensive AI might have been improved, because scoring for me is a lot tougher than on the previous game.
I wanted to follow up your post and see your thoughts on NBA 2K17 now that you have had time to get more familiar with 2K17.   I am probably going to get either 16 or 17 soon and not sure all of the new things, especially the change in taking shots, are better than the previous version.  Plus, 16 is much less expensive than 17.

I'm used to all the changes now I think.  Layups are natural and no longer a frustration.  They are not automatic like in previous games, at least when contested.  I don't miss wide open layups.

Shooting threes for me is still tough.  It depends a lot on the player though. Some have long shot motions, others are quicker.  It is hard for me to master the timing of each.  There are a couple of cheats of course, but I don't enjoy that (giving everyone on your team the same motion, or changing the shooting accuracy from user timing to real player percentage.  The second one could be a cheat either way.  I would think the players actual skill should come in to play even with correct timing, but my 15 year old shots at a .750 clip with Thon Maker from deep though.  I guess it is personal preference there).

As always I am really enjoying the game now that I got used to it.  You can't go wrong with the 16 version though if you want to save money.  Every game in the series is great.

It took me several tries to beat Nameless King even with summoning.  And I took quite a while to summon anybody since the demand for summons is so high at that one particular boss.  Getting summoned, on the other hand, was instantaneous.  I'd put down my sign and couldn't take more than 2-3 steps before somebody called for me.

I still don't get the dark souls games.  I have no idea what I'm doing
There is very little to these games.

Walk forward, keep guard up, let opponent swing and then counter attack.  Repeat with next opponent.

Avoid having to fight more than 1 guy at once if at all possible.

There is no open world aspect so you can clear the levels and move to next connecting area when you feel comfortable.

The games usually give a very small tutorial in the beginning for the basic controls and then you need to consult the wikia every so often for things are not clear to you.

they are certainly not games for every one.

For me they are among-st the best series of games ever made and certainly no game in history can match the feel of melee fighting.

ahh, so this is why my summons was failing.  I thought I just did not fill some sort of earlier game requirement.  Finally after about the 7th try I got some one to summon.  Thankfully I had plenty of ember to keep eating :)

Do I have to kill everyone on the board?

I don't get how to use souls and stuff
No, in fact you don't have to kill anyone outside of bosses who connect you to the next area.  When watching the pros who speed run, they don't kill anyone but the bosses.  Obviously the regular player can't do this as the skill level is through the roof.

Souls are just currency.  You can spend them to level up or to buy stuff (weapons, armor, upgrades etc).

yes, generally you will kill everyone (or pretty close to it). The idea is to get to the boss and beat him. ETA - yes, like NR just mentioned, you *can* run past a lot of people/etc, but as a new player, you won't do this.

Souls are your currency. You spend them to put points into attributes. You can also buy stuff with them.

Which is better on a PS4 between Dragon Age Inquisition Game of the Year Edition and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Complete Edition?

This makes it sound so simple.  Admittedly, it is that simple once you know what you're doing.  Until then, it's hard as hell.  Also, the bosses are seriously hard for people who are new to the franchise.  We understand basic mechanics, like rolling into attacks to exploit i-frames, but those are extremely counter-intuitive for new players.

I made some good progress in Bloodborne.  Cleric Beast and Reverend Stunlock both down.  I had forgotten how awesome the early stages of this game are.  This is so much fun with a vanilla, axe-wielding character.  I bought the Kirkhammer, but I'll probably just roll with the axe until I get burned out.  At this point though, I can see myself making another full playthrough.  Of course, I have Nioh coming in a week, so I'm under some time time constraints.

I find it had as hell and I know exactly what I am doing. :)

I in no way was trying to indicate level of difficulty with those steps I listed.  I was just trying to break it down in its simplest terms for someone new to the game so some one is not dying every 3 seconds in the tutorial level.

So for someone that has played through the Dark Souls series but just got a PS4, which is the better game, Bloodborne or Dark Souls III?
They are both excellent if you enjoy the series.

One is fantasy based (Souls 3) and one is a little more horror based (Bloodborne) but in reality both are very similar games.  You can't go wrong with either of them IMO.

Gamestop had Dark Souls 3 new on sale for $29.99. Almost grabbed it then. May go back and see if they still have it. Seems like a good price right?

Quick blurb from GGG (Grinding Gear Games) on what is upcoming for Path of Exile.

=====================================================

Yesterday we mentioned that we're holding a Press Tour next week in California! This was correctly interpreted as implicit confirmation that we'll be announcing some big new content quite soon. As you guys love announcements of announcements, today's news post goes into more detail on what dates you can expect to hear more information! We're holding a press tour on the week of February 6-10. During this week, we're going to show dozens of media outlets an exclusive look at the upcoming content that we have been working on. So far our press schedule is the busiest it has ever been, as Path of Exile is more popular than it has ever been before. With the help of these journalists, we will announce our long-awaited 3.0.0 expansion on Tuesday, February 14 (US time). Two days later, on Thursday the 16th, we will announce full details of our upcoming 2.6.0 challenge league, which will begin on Friday March 3 (US time). The release date of 3.0.0 is currently not decided, but it's likely that the Beta will start at some stage during the second half of the 2.6.0 challenge league. We've been working on this 3.0.0 content since we released The Awakening in 2015 and are really looking forward to sharing it with you

Agreed. Both are great. The big difference (besides the setting) is the combat - Bloodborne is a little "faster" in combat, without shields. Rolling and dodging are musts. You can also counter attack and regain health - essentially, Bloodborne wants you to be an attacking character, not a defensive one.

Dishonored 2.  90% of the way done with Mission 8, the Duke's castle.  I take my sweet time, putting all dudes to sleep.  Just killing the level.  Finally get to the Duke, go to put him in a sleeper hold on the outside steps, and he glitches INTO THE ####### steps.  I can see his Icon, walk over it, stand on it, hell...he has called two Veterans to his glitch hold in the stairs, they can throw #### through the stairs at me, but I can't get to him.  No way no how.  Dark View shows them "inside" the steps, I've tried sleep darts, guns, etc...nothing can hit them, but they can hit me.  :wall:

So 4 hours invested on this level, I think I need to start from scratch.

Cant you just reload an earlier save?

Yup. Reload

Replayed the clockwork mansion level on dishonored 2 the other day.  Was able to kill jindosh without him ever knowing I was in the mansion.

Witcher 3 stuff again. I gotta say, the pacing is all kinda of horrible in this game. Like I got a good two hours of non-stop fun, then we spend all this time doing death quests again.

I'm ready to do these final battles - I don't care about doing stupid fetch things for Ciri.

Not fully through Witcher but I'd go DAI by a long shot. I enjoyed that much more than I am enjoying Witcher. If you like RPGs and being able to pick what your character will battle with, ie mage, assassin, rogue, tank etc then DAI is the pick. Witcher you have no choice in the character build.

Totally agree, pacing is so awful as is the XP. There is a quest that you get something like 1500XP for that you don't do much of anything in except go through portals.

I'm at level 30. I get like 2k XP for every main quest and then literally 3 XP for side quests.

I'm at level 32 or 33 now, went from 28 to where I am over the course of around 3 main quests. Seems ridiculously unbalanced.
I'm playing on blood and broken bones which is the second hardest. I kinda wish I had played on the hardest setting. I would guesstimate that I've died 15x total at this point and of those, 12-13 are from falling off a ledge.  The only times the enemies have killed me is when my wife walks in front of the tv, forgets something and stands there for a few seconds while I'm clamoring to see around her, then exits the view.

I'm playing on the normal setting but I am not good as a melee character, I excel from a distance with stealth. Which I can't do in this game so I did die a bunch early on but have gotten better. The story is interesting but I read some bad advice and Geralt will wind up all alone with Dandelion because I had to bang all 3 of them.
