Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

I started this with the Mrs on the weekend. Did you pick Original or Remixed (chronological)?

I’m not sure how far we are but the gameplay is starting to get pretty stale. And there’s a few chapters that are flat out boring. In general the story is interesting.

What are you thinking about it as you get farther?
i finished it the other night. I went with the original format which was easy enough to follow (i think).

definitely agree the gameplay can get stale and pretty boring. i think the one chapter i was doing the steps to cook dinner, so if you are looking for action run from this game.

But the story was interesting enough to keep me playing (though i started to check out about 80% through, but that is m.o. with most games). it was just something i played that was different then most other games, and pulled me in enough that i wanted to see where it was going to go.

I think it would give it like a B. there is something there with the game that really held my attn., but i can't tell you what exactly it was. it is short enough that by the time i was getting bored with it you could tell it was getting close to the end

Hahahahaha. Yep the cook chapter was definitely the one I was referring too. I’m playing it on the Original mode as well. It feels like I’m getting pretty close to the end just based on the amount of “action” but I’m not sure because it doesn’t really feel the story is starting to tie up.

It is a nice change of pace from most games though.

On a quest to look for something different I ended up hooking up the 360 and starting a new Fallout New Vegas game.

I did not give this game enough credit for the scenery.

New Vegas is the best (modern) Fallout game and it is not close.
I wish the map were different. FNV always felt very compact to me - there wasn't quite the sense of scale and exploration as some of the others. But I agree - all in all, it's my favorite of the modern Fallouts

This.  Love the faction system.
And if Bethesda could incorporate the faction system with a Nemesis system like the Modor franchise, that would be so outstanding.  Imagine joining a raider group and working your way to the top by killing off rivals and consolidating lieutenants, or having to take down a raider group that is tormenting an outpost by working your way to the leader, having them put bounties on you, etc.

and reintroducing a way to play a BG (truly play a BG) would kick ###. Imagine GTA V heists, etc. in a Fallout setting. Or using "settlements" as gang turf, etc.

I like the path you two are headed down. Throw in a Mass Effect style system where you get a crew too.

Yep, they did that a little with the Nuka-World DLC, but it could have been a lot more organic.  You never really got to be a raider.
I have yet to play Nuka World. I started a second run through in Survival and its a grind. Currently in the middle of Far Harbor bemoaning the inability to save on the fly and the utter lack of usable beds.

I might have to throw in the towel on Survival. The "fun" aspects are being largely outweighed by the "this is ####### dumb / unfun" aspects at this point.

As an aside, playing Red Dead Redemption again. Such a great game. I hope they unlock the full potential in the new one.
Funny----- I was actually looking for that at the same time and couldn't find.  Oldest tells me that mom sold it at a garage sale some time ago and that I knew about it and even told her how much.

Such a failure on my part.

The external USB hard drive that we were using on our XB1 died.  Is there anything in specific that I should be looking for in a replacement?  Or any particular brand recommendations?  I'd like to keep the price fairly low if possible.

Ultimately enjoyed Arkham Knight a good deal but some aspects we're definitely annoying as hell. Chasing APCs, Riddler driving courses and perhaps the most annoying "Boss" fight ever vs. Pyg (who knew the easiest way to defeat Batman was to stay on the other side if the table) and the most disappointing "Boss" fight vs  Deathstroke which was one of the better fights in Origins.

While Scarecrow is an uninspiring lead antagonist the story was good enough, Arkham Knight was a good foe (if incredibly telegraphed) and Joker is just deliciously twisted as always.

DLC are incredibly short and not terribly interesting but the final Catwoman fight, while super frustrating, is wildly satisfying to defeat.

Plus I really like the combat system WB employs, which they also use in the Mordor games. It's smooth, dynamic and provides lots of options to keep fights interesting and limit button mashing.

I hope they continue the series.

I can't imagine playing FO4 in survival mode. It's just so massive I can't imagine finding enough hours to ever complete anything.

I finished 2nd in a solo match on Fortnite this morning, I was doing the happy dance of my people :pickle:

So I'm new to the game, been playing a couple of weeks but  play on an iPad. I assume I'm going up against players on Xbox, etc. which I think would have a marked advantage just on controls, no? Still not sure how all of it works but it's a fun game and I'm starting to learn a little.

PS - how do I get cool dance moves aside from the original one you get with the game when you start? Nothing like a good dance party.

It was fun at first on the mainland. In Far Harbor, it's an annoying chore. Pretty sure I am dialing it back the next time I fire it up. Might even start over.

I believe you can unlock them with the points you earn for challenges.

Currently playing:

MLB The Show 18 - Yankees year 2 Franchise (carried over from MLB 17) playing every pitch of every inning. I am sitting in first place 3.5 games in front of the dreaded Red Sox. The game is simply the best sports game I have ever played.

Madden 18 - 1994 Season Replay - Amazing roster here and I created every coach of that era and use playbooks that best match the teams with their proper generic defensive playbook. Simply playing various games each week in a single season replay in CFM with 32 team control everything set to manual so no funky CPU BS.

NBA 2K18 - 1990/1991 Season replay Miami Heat/Chicago Bulls - Having fun with that old Heat team of Seikaly, Rice, Smith and company. Of course playing with Michael, Scottie and Company is alwys a treat as well. Good times. After we finish that season We will play a classic teams custom MyLeague mash-up. I will use the 1996/1997 Zo, Timmy, Mashburn, Voshon Lendard, Ike Austin and Dan Majerle Heat team!

Skyrim Remastered - 120 hours now on my second playthrough (logged 250 Hours with a High Elf Mage on the PS3 version) with a Wood Elf Sneaky Archer/Thief. I finished The first DLC (The Vampire one) and now am playing the Dragonborn DLC with that hit vampire as my companion. Still have not completed the main story. Finshed the Thieves Guild. After Dragonborn I will move on tothe Dark Brotherhood questline then finish up the main storyline. Already did the College of Winterhold with my previous character so no interest in doing that. Once I finish the main storyline I will be done with this character playthrough.

The Witcher 3 - throughly enjoying taking my sweet time with this one. I am currently on the islands of Skilage and have tons of content left. This is a multi year type of 35%

Wolfenstein The New Colossal - 35% Finished

In The Que:

Rise Of The Tomb Raider

Mass Effect Andromeda

Playing Superhot which I got for free. I’m guessing the game is short, but it makes you feel like a bad ###. Fun little game.

Hi. I don't see any problem with that. I've enjoyed all of the Fallout games I've played, and I don't see why everyone fights about which one is better.
I only played FO4 and I loved that game.  So I could go back and play vegas and it wouldn't feel old or outdated after playing 4 so much the last couple years?

Not really.  It will be different, no settlement building, a bit more linear in the beginning (but still open world).  There are some great other things though like factions and caravan.  Some great DLC for New Vegas as well.

Yup. I don't see the last three games (never played the original or 2) as being so markedly different from each other as to warrant such discussion. They are all very fun games.

Although I must say the settlement aspect (with some useful and necessary mods) really distinguishes FO4 from 3 and NV. Doesn't make it better, and for many it makes it worse, but for me it was a nice break from wandering from quest to quest.

i got the playstation pass (or whatever it is called) and you can get 2 free games a month. Playing Beyond: two souls. surprisngly a very engaging game. well written story and def something different
It's PS plus I believe. I think it's fairly good if theres an old game you want to play that they put at a lower price. However I usually see if Gamestop has the game for an even lower price which sometimes they do plus with my upgraded pass do to my points (I basically subscribed for free) I also get points added for trading in and buying the game and get discounts on the game there too. It's worth the membership if you play enough games and the magazine you get with it has a lot of cool things and goes over some of the more popular new games coming out on each system.

I've spent over a thousand hours each on every Fallout game starting with Fallout 2 (Aside from Tactics).  There can never be a wrong answer to your personal favorite imo.  Saying New Vegas is my favorite doesn't diminish any of the others.  I've obviously had a great time playing them all

The skills are fairly different too. I actually like the FO 3/NV way better.

I say go for it, game plays pretty well, graphics just have a hard time competing.  I probably do a run though of FO:NV every couple years.  If you are on PC you can get it sub $10 pretty easily, and i'm pretty sure you can mod up graphics to make that better, though I don't bother.

I mean, I feel like there's just a ton of love for New Vegas and F03 gets kinda ragged on. I mostly prefer it to over NV for the storyline and atmosphere. Like "OMG DAD IS MISSING AND I MUST FIND HIM AND THERE'S A BAT#### MUDEROUS OVERSTEER!" feels like a much much better opening storyline than "OH NOES, I'VE BEEN SHOT! I KNOW! LETS GO GET REVENGE!" I also just like the capital wasteland so much better than wandering in the Mojave desert. I hadn't played a lot of New Vegas (which I guess weakens my argument that F03 is better, but at the end of the day it's just a personal choice I guess) but I remember New Vegas being smaller and there being a lot of places you couldn't get into and thus F03 had a more open worldy feel.

The main argument I've heard for NV being better is there's more customization but I feel like customization doesn't really make a game better.

The factions along with the weapon modding is what made New Vegas better for me than FO3.  But that is like saying I like one of my kids better than I like the other.  There are some great parts to every Fallout game.

I'm not sure you can find anyone in here that has a seriously bad thing to say about FO:3....  FO:3 is a great game.
