The RPG elements were greatly dumbed-down from FO3 and especially from FO:NV.  There were nowhere near as many dialog options, for example, which led to most quests being too straight-forward and scripted.  Overall, it was just a boring game.

Hmmm...  I love Fallout 4.  It may be different but that's why I like it.  I also love Fallout 3.  They are each their own game and fun in their own ways.

I'd love to see them keep making Fallout games that take place in different parts of the US.  There's just something so cool about exploring different parts of the US in that type of setting.

 
Interesting.  Love Fallout.  If this is online though I'm probably out.  Just not my thing. 

But the video is interesting.  The clock at the beginning says it's 2102. That's earlier then every other game if that is the setting. 

 
I'm about halfway through God of War and I'm loving it. Last night I wanted to google something about Kratos's son, Atreus, and one of his abilities. I searched "atreus" and started to type some more, and I noticed one of Google's suggested searches was "atreus ..." followed by what I assume is a massive spoiler about the plot. That pissed me off pretty bad.

 
Speaking of God of War - if I stay mainly with the main quests will I be powerful enough to keep plodding along OR

will I reach a point where I have to do side quests because enemies are too powerful

 
If this new Fallout game is an MMO, maybe it will be similar to another Bethesda MMO, Elder Scrolls Online.  

As far as MMOs go, Elder Scrolls is pretty good.  There is more of an emphasis on exploration than you usually get in an MMO and the world was just as rich and vibrant lore-wise as any other Elder Scrolls game.  This bodes well for a potential Fallout MMO.  That said, it still had many MMO trappings that will no doubt turn a lot of people off to the game.

Good question. I kind of do both. Haven't been able to beat a valkyrie yet. I heard they are more end game material.

I love the entire series, having played FO1 way back in the 90's. I like FO4, but I like it the least of all the Fallout RPG's. I agree - they greatly took out the role playing aspect. I also didn't feel very invested in the main quest at all - yea, I'm all-in on finding my son, but first, let me collect some scrap so I can build more beds for settlement x. 

The best part of FO4 was painting the green monster yellow.  :ph34r:

 
Apparently there's a 4chan post where they say FO76 is going to be an open world survival game with building ala Rust/H1Z1/Wurm/ARK/

I would try to confirm, but no sane person should ever go to 4chan.

For me it depends how much is story and how much in Minecraft.  I despised the settlements part of FO4, so unless it’s improved in a huge way then I might actually skip. If building settlements is 50% or more, I have very little interest. 

 
Any new Fallout is good news. I'll reserve judgment once we get more official details, which thankfully should be in less than two weeks at E3!

Speculation is that the release date will be October 27th based on the date on the Pip Boy in the teaser.

Well, it was actually October 27, 2102.  Hope we don't have to wait that long.

 
in FO lore, vault 76 was a control vault with like 500 people, and was set to open only 20 years after the nukes dropped. so if the new game has you emerging from the vault after only 20 years, it should be friggin' chaos. probably no or very limited established cities, high radiation, tons of scavengers/raiders/ghouls, and a generally unpredictable environment.

Huge bleh.  I hope they have other stuff coming out at E3.  

ETA:  Set it aside while it was in open access beta, but got sucked back into Darkest Dungeon.  Great strategy/RPG/Rogue-like.

School me on darkest dungeon. I bought it for my iPad for $3 and it seems cool, but I’m kind of lost. I wish they had a longer tutorial / also the text is tiny.

There are about 16 classes.  Basically you recruit some of each type and choose 4 of the classes that fill out the four slots (front to back) for each dungeon dive.  Some classes are up front, some middle, some suited to the back.  In each character screen you can see what position they're good at and what position in the opponent line it works best against.  You want to assemble a team that compliments each other well - a team that does marking and damage based on marking, a team that works well moving back and forth (jester, bounty hunter, etc.)., etc.  On top of all of that each hero acquires quirks - both good and bad and very bad.  And sicknesses.  And random events.  And hard boss monsters.  

It's actually a pretty deep game.  Great tactical combat.  Along with a healthy spice of random #### to #### with you.

I played the hell out of this game when it came out on consoles. Really nice game, with a much deeper combat structure that what it seems like at first glance.  You're exactly right that you have to think carefully about your party composition and what skills various characters bring to the table before you tackle some of the tougher dungeons.  I also really like the meta-game that places you the player essentially in the role of an evil HR manager.  You need a highly ranked-up team to beat the final dungeon, which requires a ton of money.  And by the far the easiest way to acquire money is to send expendable characters into lower-level dungeons with minimal equipment.  So basically you spend a lot of time taking fresh recruits off the stagecoach, running them through hell, and then kicking them to the curb when their stress level gets too high.  And using the proceeds to build up your A-team, which you spare no expense in protecting when they have to go into combat.

I didn't play it a ton, maybe 80 hours, but thought the lore and story blew massive chunks compared to any other ES game. Seems like Bethesda is done with full on RPG going forward. Prey was good, and I enjoyed it but man it wasn't even close to FO or ES.

Did you play before they completely revamped the game?  It was pretty bad on initial release but became loads better after.  It was essentially a different game.

 
A few hours into God of War and still feel like every battle is spastic.  Enjoying it overall though.  Still have no clue how/what I should upgrade though.  Is there a guide for that?

Finished Far Cry 5. If not number 1, then definitely top three for biggest FU in an ending for me. Sink tons of hours in to a game just to be given that result? Thanks.

 
I bought from Amazon: Witcher 3-Complete Edition, Helldivers - Super Earth Edition, and Horizon Zero Dawn-Complete Edition for PS4.

I got Witcher updated and installed, ready to rock all week (wife on business trip) with a few breaks for work, sleep and the NBA Finals. I might not eat so no need for poop breaks. Let's do this ####.

You will need waaaaay more time. It's a fantastic game, especially once you "get" Gwent. Enjoy!

You better hope she has a few more business trips lined up. Also The Witcher 3 for me was a gift and I was bought the physical copy a couple of years back (normally always do digital).  Anyway, it came with the soundtrack included and that has been my goto music for reading on flights  I need something without words so I can focus on the book, but also something nice to drown out plane noise.  It’s perfect for that.  The only problem is there are two tracks that immediately make my mind think “oh your son is missing, how about a game of Gwent?”

Im looking at the new Vampyre game that’s being released. I’ve been intrigued but now the reviews come out and I’m thinking maybe the trailers were just really polished. If anyone plays this, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

Got my first Fortnight victory last night!*

*Thanks to the 20 v 20 matchups!  Stayed as a bush the entire game... got 1 kill!

Building the settlement s was tedious and boring.  Prob the worst thing I have ever seen in any fallout game for sure.fallout 3 and Vegas blow 4 out of the water
