Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

Finished up the story on Borderlands 3 today. Played most of it solo.

Enjoyed it a lot. Will definitely continue to play through True Vault hunter mode, farm bosses for loot, try mayhem modes, etc. I have to say that the story and boss fights from Bl2 were a lot  more fun and memorable for me. Much better story, FAR better antagonist. I thought the different planets were kind of a gimmick, as they just kinda replicated a bunch of the different areas from Bl2.

The game was really hard in the beginning when i didn't have elemental weapons or the necessary backpack space i needed to carry ammo. But that stopped being a problem later in the game. Honestly, the the last couple hours of the game (including the final 3 bosses)  were a bit too easy IMO. I had a set of weapons that just mowed through pretty much everything, so unless an enemy was just super fast, I could just thump pretty much anyone. I think my build had something to do this though. Basically, I used a combination of skills that transferred all but 1 point of health to my shield and then gave me constant bonus damage based on how low my healthy was. so instead of like 4000 shield and 3000 health, i had 7000 shield and 1 health (and got +80% damage as a result). Plus there were other skills that stacked more damage. You would think that with this sort of build, I'd be susceptible to a lot of quick damage, but that just wasn't the case.  Other than 2 or 3 tough early boss battles, i probably died less than 10 times over the course of the entire game.  (obviously 2nd wind plays a big part in this)

I'm hoping its a bit more balanced in the end game (especially since they're starting to nerf some of the uber-builds that a lot of people have discovered). We'll see.

Definitely recommended if you liked the previous games or just looter-shooters in general (the guns really are a lot of fun). If you're just looking for a good story, you may not enjoy it quite as much.

I'm playing Greedfall now. It's an RPG that sort of fills the Bioware gap.

It's a pretty good game that scratches that third-person RPG itch, but it's not going to make you forget Witcher 3 or anything. It's very similar to Dragon Age in control and how the world works - essentially, you have different areas, but a lot of invisible walls that kind of funnel you from one place to another. There's no Skyrim-like "see that mountain? You can climb it." The game is a little janky in camera and movement - again, think budget Dragon Age.

The combat tries to be complex, but it's pretty easy - you can button mash your way through this. Adding guns is fun, and they can be pretty powerful too. You can map different skills and attacks to buttons to make it seamless, but honestly, the x-attack and using a gun every so often does the trick just fine. Your companions are useful, but you don't control them.

The big saving grace is the story/quests. It's more political intrigue and diplomacy than anything, and the quests are deep and complex. No fetching here, and charisma is super-important. In fact, building your character on charisma and crafting is superior to anything else. But sometimes it's a little frustrating - you want to run your sword through this smug @#$%, but the game won't let you. Your companions are pretty good and have decent stories too.

It was $50, and I traded in a bunch of old games which made it worth it, but in recommending it, I'd say wait for a price drop to fill a gaming lull. It's worth your time, but not worth $50, if that makes sense. Play this game for the story more than the mechanics.

Haven't been able to find this title yet, but looking forward to playing when I do.  I heard the soundtrack was awesome!
You should be able to find it in the Playstation Store.

Edit:

Holy crap.....not there. Wow. Wonder why?

Just read the article about possible leaks for GTA VI.  It sounds feasible, but who knows.  Sounds like RDR2 combined with the weather from Just Cause 4.  The article was vague enough to make me think it could go either way.  The only odd thing was they said while they didn't have a release date, they'd expect it to be around 2026.   :lmao:  No way that's possible, right?  6 years until the next GTA game seems impossible.  I mean we could have the PlayStation 6 by then.

We went an entire generation without an Elder Scrolls game.  Just saying . . .

Almost 9 years since Skyrim was released. Bethesda is usually pretty quick between officially announcing a game and release. But i could see it being a decade.
And I still play that game (remastered PS4 version with mods). Incredible shelf life.

Bought Salt & Sanctuary and played for about an hour. It’s very dark and very hard (That’s what she said!).

So far so good. It’s as advertised so far. It’s Dark Souls 2D and its awesome.

PS5 officially confirmed by Sony for "holiday 2020" in the US. SSD and a new controller.

I still don't have a PS4, should have bought the Spidey one around this time last year. Wondering how good a deal PS4 Pro bundles will be this Black Friday or if I will need to wait another year for another big price drop.

I swear I remember hearing about Dead Island 2 coming out like 8 years ago.  Just saw it has a release date of next August.

Been in development hell for years. Original developer for the first Dead Island decided they didn't want to do the sequel and did the game Dying Light instead. The publisher found someone new and did some preview stuff like 5 years ago but then then they were fired a few years later. It then moved to another developer who has since also been fired as of a few months ago. It's on its 3rd developer now. Obviously doesn't bode well for the game.

Even stranger, they said the sequel won't take place on an island, but in three different California cities.

The first one was one of the worst games I’ve ever played. Not sure why it ever deserved a sequel.
I never played the first one.  But when they announced the sequel, it sounded interesting.  They were talking about the changes that were being made.  At the time, I loved the Dead Rising series, so I was all for giving it a shot.  Then it just fell off the face of the earth.  Like I said, it's probably been 8 years since I've heard that game mentioned.  That's why it was so odd to see a release date.

I wouldn't say I loved the first one, but it was a heck of a lot of fun playing co-op with friends. It had too many fetch quests and other repetition type issues. The decision to make all enemies level with you was neat at first but ended up making it a slog to backtrack through the same areas over and over again since enemies constantly respawned. Some of the end game missions became near impossible to beat if your character got too leveled up too, kind of the opposite of many other games.

I'll probably give it a chance because I didn't play Watch Dogs because everyone said it was terrible.  But I played 2 and it's one of my favorite games.  So there's always a chance at redemption in the sequel.

I have a great idea for a video game.  It's an open world, GTA style Ghostbusters game set in NY.  You would drive around in Ecto 1 and do ghost busting missions.  Ecto1 and your HQ would be upgradeable as well as your equipment.    Places you do missions at would be destructible and your payout is affected by how much damage you do while catching the ghosts.  Stay Puft marshmallow man would be one of the last bosses, requiring you to helicopter from rooftop to rooftop trying to stop him.  I would play the #### out of this game.  Somebody should make it.

Typically Vault Hunter mode is a lot more difficult and Mayhem Mode, especially Mahem 3 sounds pretty tough

Every time I go on a new video game date I still end up back with my main squeeze Rocket League.
I know what you mean.  While I've been playing NBA 2k20 lately, I'm often wishing I was playing Rocket League instead.

Same. That game has absolutely owned me since it came out 4 years ago. Dominated my gameplay this console generation. Second place for me is Dead by Daylight. Countless hours on that too. I can play RL on my own. Having a consistent crew makes DBD a lot more enjoyable. Luckily I have that.

Not sure how I missed this. Did Shawn and SONY make the official announcement?

I think I'm skipping NBA2K21 next year. Ronnie2k just went after AGent00 in a very personable attack and considering Agent's cred in the community it doesn't make Ronnie or 2K look great at all. Gonna start my NBA2k boycott next year.

Been Playing new Ghost Recon which is pretty good. Getting and connecting to others is a bit hard but I think it's because I'm so far ahead compared to others right now.

Was playing Fifa but then my Disc apparently corrupted took it to GS and got it replaced for free. I was sacked as my manager in the game for apparently giving a player too high of wages which I didn't know was possible. I didn't make a 2nd save point now I want to start my club all over again ugh.

I never buy sports games 2 years in a row anymore, so I wasn't planning on buying next year.  I'm trying to enjoy this year's game, but I can't say the game is that much better than 2k18 (still better, but not leaps and bounds better -  I hear 2k19 was better).  I'm happy that I've stayed true to my word of not spending money on MyTeam.  But I'm completely discouraged from the MyCareer online play, though.  Park is simply a terrible, miserable experience.  And the only reason I put up with it is because I play it with friends.

Do I have you on my friends list (Rocket League)?  I mainly play on PC now that I can party with friends cross-platform now.

I only got the game for the My Career this year which I appreciate has more of an actual storyline. Once I'm done that I'm trading it in. I don't really have a team to play with online besides a buddy at work but we're both more gonna be focused on COD when it comes out anyway.

I'm one of those who usually buys a sports game every year it's out. Madden, The Show and 2K are the man ones. Might only do Madden and Show next year. I played NHL last year on a discount from the store for the first time in god knows how long. It was decent and liked the new scouting system but I felt something was missing.

I think so! I have taken a break the past few months but past week or two I have been slowly getting back into it. I haven't played cross platform yet so I'm not sure how that works. How does communication work through cross platform? If we can get something working, I'm all there for some games.

Communication depends on the system.  When I team up with Xbox people, I just use the Xbox app to party up, since it's easier for them.  But there isn't anything native for Playstation users, so most people suggest that the Playstation user connects to Discord using a smart phone.  Remind me of your in-game name.  I'll have to send you an invite and play a few with you one day.

This year's story is all pre-draft and summer league.  Other than endorsement deals and back and forths with media (and Shaq & Kenny), there really isn't any story to be had once your rookie season starts.  I'm 5 games out of the playoffs, so we'll see if the off-season brings anymore story, but I'm doubtful.

PS4 has party system also.

XB1 and PS5 announcements were both huge deals.  Everything seems a lot more laid-back this time around.  I barely caught this announcement too.
I was just reading about it at work today. Haven't seen much on the new XB1 but from reviews and stuff so far many gamer sites are saying theres barely a competition and PS5 is gonna blow this out of the water. Only thing missing is gonna be price. We'll see
