Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Duke Nukem Fornever. Its not the shooting portions that are bad, although they are outdated. Its the long periods of platforming and random stuff that feels really out of character. It looks like tons of different teams had grand ideas for the game, and it shows because one section after another is just awkwardly pieced together. :(
:( Was really hoping that I could re-live some of the great times I had playing the original.

I figured it wasn't going to be that great. It sat around too long and had too many hands involved changing the direction. I respect the fact that someone came and and said "we are shipping this game" but this release was doomed. Hopefully it won't kill the franchise.

Same here. I had no expectations for this game, never looked at a single video or read any article. Played for about an hour and was shocked at how bad it was. The thing is I'm not a graphics person, I'm more about gameplay, story, music, and how well the game works overall. Fail!

I hope Gearbox gets the rights to the next game in the series. I believe they can do something great with it in maybe 2.5-3 years time. Its just they were hired to do as you said, to throw some shiny edges on the game and get it shipped.

Gearbox wasn't hired. They bought the franchise.

It sounds like this game may have killed the franchise (if the 40 year delay between games hadn't already).

Don't know how I missed this, but Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is coming out for PS3/360 in November and includes Metal Gear 2, 3, and Peacewalker(4?, but was for PSP). I'm a huge fan of these HD remakes and it almost always a great game they are releasing for cheap, or multiple bunched together for retail. Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X remakes are also coming this fall and a Splinter Cell Trilogy in the spring.

They're also supposed to be releasing ICO/Shadow of the Colossus on PS3 HD sometime soon.Edit: September 27th release.

anyone picked up "infamous 2" yet? i enjoyed the original quite a bit. debating whether i ought to pick this up. reviews have been very positive.
I've got about 10 hours in and I'm loving it so far. I was a huge fan of the original and they made some nice improvements. The side missions are actually interesting and not as repetitive as before. The "sword" is a cool change and very effective when surrounded by many enemies.Maybe I haven't reached it yet, but there aren't any sewer levels. These also got tedious in the first one.Excellent graphics and action

Why would they need a RE4 remake? Its still pretty relevant. They need to remake 2 and 3, damn it!

OK my thoughts about Infamous 2:

Seems slightly more boring than the 1st one but I just got started.

The movement feels more floaty for some reason.

The graphics are 10X better

The enemies seem tougher and you lose more damage

Love the stick you fight with

Replaying BioShock on hard and getting all diary logs. Still absolutely fantastic.

I've heard the original is extremely frustrating to replay after you go through the 2nd game (because the gameplay was improved so much, particularly with the ability to hold both plasmids and weapons at the same time). I'll have to fire this back up real soon.

I don't really see this as an issue and have played both titles twice before.

Yes. Big fan of City of Heroes. I just couldn't justify the $15/mo subscription fee longer, so I stopped playing and only go back when they have free return weekends. I've made a request for it to attempt the F2P model, and I'm glad they are. Since I'm a former subscriber, I'll be lumped in the Premium group, so I'm satisfied with that. Here is a comparison chart. I can't say how it will play from a new player perspective. I'd guess it would be like the 14-day free trial they had, except that you're no longer tied down to not being able to level past 14. I can't say whether anyone else would love it or not. But it's been around longer than WoW.

When is it going F2P?

The only reports I've seen have said "later this year". So I don't know.

Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is one sale at Steam for $20. I just watched the trailer and am very interested. 82/100 metacritic score.

Interesting model. Game is free but the add ons are a boatload. Buying guns and hats and extras are how they will make money now. Giving the game out for free I guess helps to bring in more potential suckers... er buyers.
WTF? They should give TFC away for free to bring more players back to the real Team Fortress game. Team Fortress is the only game that I feel that Valve makes worse every update. It had so much potential. In fact, it's still one of the best games out there. But catering to the casual / MMO crowd is driving it downhill IMO. Just my :2cents:

I agree. Very few servers left that keep it with the classic setup. They keep tweaking classes and throwing off the balance.

Dowloaded Wipeout HD the other day as my second game of the PSN-outage-makeup package. It's pretty to look at, but I'm just not feeling this one. I'll give it this weekend yet to see if it can grab me.

Playing D&D online for free with a rl buddy. We just use our xbox headset to chat while playing our pc's. The game runs really smooth on my laptop, so trays good news for guys like me who don't have high end rigs.

Joining me madshot?

I finally....finally popped in Dead Space (PS3) and am totally hooked. What an amazing game. I am on chapter 4 so far.

I have been playing with all the lights off and my 5.1 sound strong. Wow a truly awesome experience. I love it so much (I know I will finish this one within a month) I picked up Dead Space 2 on Amazon (had a gift card sitting there for some time) brand new for 28 bucks. I am going to want to play the second one right after I finish the first one.

Amazing that this game (which I picked up a year ago for 20 bucks) has been sitting on my shelf this long.

So my current rotation is:

The Show 2011

NBA 2K11

Dead Space

Borderlands

In 2 weeks NCAA 12 will push 2K11 to the offseason (I am in year three of my Assoication as this game is the best sports game ever) and I will give that game a much needed vacation (9 straight months of game time). Then 8/30 Madden 12 hits the shelf.

Still in que to play in the near future are:

Uncharted 2

Bioshock 1

Valkyrie Chronicles

Batman Arkum Asylum

NHL 2011

How do you like it? I have been wondering about DDO and would be game to join other FBG's, as well.Of course, LOTRO is F2P as well, and is definitely worth your time. I cannot go back to that. I spent toooooo many hours there. :nerd: :bag:

I thought TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled was being pulled from the marketplace due to licensing? I guess they want to get one last run of sales out of it before they pull it. Hard Corps might be worth it. Not only is it "Contra style", it IS Contra. It's literally a Contra sequel without the Contra name in the title.

You are correct. It is being removed due to having the license run out, but I assume you can still play it online, just can't buy it after the date. And yes, hard corps is contra and if you do the code at the start of the first level, you gets its theme music for the stage. :thumbup:I picked up Hard Corps: Uprising and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero today. Do any of you other 360 FBGs find yourself having a pretty big collection of arcade games? When I got a 360, I didn't think I would buy any arcade games. These past few weeks I have been playing them more than retail games and the quality of them is often better than some main stream full priced games.

Yeah, they aren't going to take the game away from you if you've purchased it. If they do as they have in the past, Microsoft will probably even keep the game on the servers to allow for re-download for those who have already purchased the game. You'd just have to go into your purchase history and re-add it to your download queue. I'm only speculating there. I also bought Case Zero back when it was only 200 MS points. It's a real deal for that. Next XBLA game I'm looking forward to is Retro City Rampage, which will probably release sometime after the Summer of Arcade is over. As for the Summer of Arcade, Bastion and From Dust looks nice, but I'll probably wait for a deal of the week on those.I also have a lot of XBLA games. I planned on getting a few when I bought mine, but that was when they were real arcade games and weren't the quality releases we're getting now. I believe XBLA is one of the things that the XBox has a huge advantage over Playstation and PSN. Not that they don't get some of these games, but I see better games on the XBLA than on PSN. (I'm not looking to start another debate. I'm simply stating opinion.)

It's a throwback to old-school games. It's like an 8-bit GTA style open world game with pop culture references, video game references, and all sorts of awesome stuff. Here is some info: http://www.retrocityrampage.com/ and an E3 interview including gameplay footage.

:hifive:My favorite horror game of all time. Still haven't started the 2nd one yet, but it's next in the queue.

I'm working my way through Dead Space 2 right now. Currently in Chapter 10 (out of 14 or 15 -- not sure). So far, this is game is better than I had expected. I'm a huge fan of the first, so it's not like expected the sequel to suck or anything, but I was skeptical that the developers would be able to re-create the same atmosphere and tension without it feeling stale. Plus, a lot of the reviews were "good but not great" so I came into this with measured expectations. I'm not sure that I'd say DS2 > DS1, but the sequel really is an improvement over the first in terms of pacing and the variety of enemies that you face. There are some extremely good, tense sequences in this game, and the part I'm on right now is stellar but describing why would spoil the surprise.

We'll see how the last few chapters play out, but I'm already looking forward to NG+.

BTW, you can start a NG+ on a higher difficulty level this time around, so all my upgraded gear from Normal will carry over to Survivalist (hard) or Zealot (super-hard), which is a nice option. DS2 also features a Hardcore mode in which all checkpoints are disabled and you're only allowed three saves total. I won't touch this until after several more playthroughs.

Only downside so far is that are no cheat codes, so you can't abuse stasis all the way through the game. :sadbanana:

last two chapters are annoying but overall was a phenomenal sequel

Wanted a RPG to play on my laptop while on the road, and picked up The Witcher via Steam a couple of weeks ago. While it's hard to believe this won some RPG of the year awards, and doesn't do anything particularly well (story, combat, etc.), it is oddly entertaining. I'll probably pick up the second game and hope it runs on my laptop.

Havent played Red Dead Redemption in over a year, just played it again, was stunned at how amazing the game still looks and plays. Its holds up far better now then GTA 4

Agreed. I finally powered through and finished it (including the two false endings) a few weeks ago. A very solid game - I felt like I got my money's worth.

What are these two false endings you're referring to? I played through it once but didn't realize there were multiple endings...
