Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (9 Viewers)

Doesn't really sound that appealing to me. And their promise of no lag is a joke. They can't guarantee that
This appears to be a new incarnation of the Phantom which was in development for 8 years and never got off the ground.
Does anyone remember Sega Channel? Kind of odd that that kind of technology hasn't been perfected yet. From what I can remember you could access around 50 games that chanced each month as well as first access demos. It plugged into your sega like a cartridge and then you ran a cable from the cable company directly to the device.

Please post your thoughts on Heavy Rain as I am considering buying it once the price drops.
I played this a while back. It's an outstanding rental, but there is close to zero replay value IMO. Absolutely excellent for a single playthrough though.
I heard though that the story can take several twists an turns on repeated play throughs. Making different choices set's the story down different paths. At least that is what I read in several reviews.
This is true. I had a blast with it but I only went through one storyline on a rental. I don't think I would give it my recommendation as a $60 game but if you could find it used for $30 or better yet just rent it and keep it a day or two late then you will be pleased.

I'm tying to get into Dragon Age, but it's just not grabbing me for some reason. And then I played for an hour the other day and the auto save got messed up so I ended up back where I started before I began. :fishy:
:bag: Not getting into Dragon Age, either, and I usually love Bioware RPGs.
Count me as another who didn't get into this. I got it for Xmas last year. Haven't touched it since January.

Anyone playing Gran Tursimo 5?
Can't wait to get this--have to wait for the wife to buy it for Christmas sadly. Also hoping she buys me Splatterhouse and NBA2K11.I bought my daughter Epic Disney and a Kinnect system with 3 games.Things are shaping up for a fun Christmas.Oh, I bought Donkey Kong Country for my wife and am going to get Amnesia Dark Descent for her PC/

Sounds like my BiL with Mass Effect. I just got back my XBox 360 copy from him. I checked and he hadn't played the game since 5/12/2009 with "Distinguished Service Medal - Complete Eden Prime" being his only achievement. 18 months. I gave him 18 months.I probably should have mentioned he's been bugging me to play Dragon Age.

Since I mentioned I was getting the family a Wii for Christmas, here's what the list looks like for them so far. Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey and Dora The Explorer Saves the Crystal Kingdom for my daughter. Biggest Loser, Boom Blox Bash Party and a Wii Fit Plus (w/Balance Board) for my wife. Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Mario Kart Wii for the family. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime Trilogy (if I can find a copy) for me. Of course, this doesn't include the Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort that are already includes. I have 2 wiimote with Wii Motion plus built in and 2 nunchucks when you count what's included.

I haven't gotten an SD card yet, but a 2GB SD card is only $12, so I'm not sweating it. Nor have I gotten classic controller or Gamecube controller. My understanding is that only the Gamecube controller is compatible with Gamecube games if I ever decide to play them and that the controller tends to play anything that the Classic Controller will play. The Classic Controller is a bit more programmable and has the convenience of being wireless, when you consider that it plugs into the wiimote, but doesn't work with Gamecube games. Neither controller is compatible with a ton of Wii games, but if you plan on playing Virtual Console or umm, homebrew emulators, then I'll need the controller (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). I'm gonna hold off on the controller for now until I hear which you all would recommend. I'd like to go back and play some Gamecube games I missed, and I'm currently trying to on a emulator on my computer, but it isn't perfect.

This is only what I've spent on gaming gifts (and I didn't think I'd be doing it this year). I'm definitely already over budget, but what else would you suggest, if you have any.

:pressingsubmitIhopethisdoesntlooklikeawalloftext:

Forgot to add that my daughter loves the "Learning with the Poo Yoo" wiiware games, so I'll probably be downloading all of those too.

I'd love to hear any WiiWare suggestions. I know there are some really good obscure titles that I really wanna try out. And Fluidity, which comes out next week, looks pretty solid liquid.

I haven't played a video game of any kind besides Angry Birds on my Evo in over a month. That probably sets some kind of record for me that dates back at least 15 years

I used to have Sega Channel. It was pretty awesome; the game selection changed each month.

Just finished Alan Wake and the first DLC, The Signal. Absolutely loved it, great story. Cant wait to play the last DLC, this is def. one of the better games ive played this year. Great atmosphere, great music, and I really enjoyed it's serial episodic format. Plus the whole premise of living through a story of your own devising, being trapped within the framework of fiction and words literally taking shape before your very eyes was extremely cool. I'm a big reader so the whole literary side of the game appealed to me.

currently trying to get 3 stars on every level.
Done. Good times, spent an entire cup of coffee on some levels. I've put about 30 hours into Final Fantasy on BB Storm so far. Never played it on NES, always fun to get around to those timeless classics.

Currently wrapping up Mass Effect.

Went to Best Buy and ended up getting Rock Band 3 since my Rock Band disc won't read anymore and I have a bunch of DLC. So I am winding through the checkout line which is basically all kinds of items set up in a way to create a winding maze to the register and I think to myself "no way I am going to give in to this planned impulse buy cluster####." And then I get to the front of the impulse buy maze and see Band Hero complete sets for $49.99. So I grabbed one :2cents: . I have no desire to play the game, though I might for the hell of it sometime, but I wanted an extra mic and extra guitar. Since I have the original RB drums I would think these are a step up too. I am happy with it. Wife, not so much.

I don't have the time or money to get many new games, so I usually wait for price drops and get games that can keep me occupied for a while. The exception to the rule is Madden of course. Anyway, was at gamestop the other week and found a new copy of Mass Effect 2 for 20 bucks. After two weeks I'm about 16 hours in tackling a level a night (usually takes about an hour) and having a blast. I'd probably put this right up there as my top Xbox 360 game if it weren't for Fallout 3. The story and gameplay really make this game stand apart, sets the bar high for other sci fi shooters.

Same here. I will buy an occasional game here and there that I know I want, like Red Dead Redemption and Battlefield: BC2 but I end up trading with a friend who plays and buys everything. So right now he gave me ME, Fallout 3, and Assassins Creed 2. Like you said, so many great games but so little time.

Anyone play Vanquish? Its made by the same people that had the sleep hit Bayonetta. Looks short but a good TPS with real nice controls. It has no multiplayer and is just straight campaign, but would be a good rent.

Looks fun.

Just a FYI for those of us who have Blockbuster All-Access (get the movies by mail then turn in for more movies @ the store). They are now including game rentals with this. The 2 caveats here are that 1) They usually don't have games for rent thru this until @ 100 days after release, but still, not horrible & 2) you can only get them via mailing, not turning in a movie from mail into the store, for a game. Still, nice to have the option.

I got Gran Turismo 5 on Friday and spent most of the night downloading the content to my HD so that it would run faster. Then I got my B license and was ready to rock but for some reason when I tried to run a B Spec race it had me create a driver and the sim driver ran the race :lmao: All I could do is give him basic commands like a pit crew boss. I didn't get a chance to play any more on the weekend, but Mrs. Foos is out of town this week so I will probably get a bunch more play time in the evenings after the kids are in bed.

I read some reviews on the DLC and saw decent ones for Overlord and Shadow Broker, so I went ahead and grabbed those. I have a few already from my collector's edition of ME2, so I should be set. Reviews said Kasumi was kinda meh and not worth the $$.
:unsure:Love me some Mass Effect. I'm still doing the creating a legend thing in NBA2K11. I wish they would let me skip some games . . . regular season is too tedious.Still need to download RDR Undead also.

Does it not let you choose to play a shortened season in create a legend mode? I want the game, but I'm waiting to pick it up cheaper, maybe during the off-season. (I say after I just bought 12 Wii games for my family for Christmas)

Just started on Enslaved.
This looks really good if you like games with a quality story. The gameplay and platforming are kind of basic but that's not what the game is built around.
Cutscenes are great, great voice acting and animation. The platforming is easy though, you cant fall off ledges and things you can grab onto shine so they stand out. So the exploratory route of figuring out how to get from point A to point B like Prince of Persia really isn't there. Still real fun to scale the ruined overgrown buildings of Manhattan though. Combat is pretty basic too, but i'm still early in the game and you unlock more moves as you progress. I agree on the story being the big draw here.

Nope. And it doesn't let you go to the calendar and skip ahead a bunch of games at a time either. You have to start a game and the choose to quit/sim to end each game. One at a time. I was hoping that was going to be fixed in the update a few weeks ago, but alas it was not as far as I know.

Ok, so I haven't had a gaming device besides SNES in the last two years or so.

Bought a new Xbox 360 on Black Friday. Played through Halo ODST and Halo: Reach on Saturday. ODST took about 5 hours, Reach 6 1/2 hours on normal.

Probably the best 2 single player experiences in the Halo library.

Can't wait to go live by the end of the week, this should take care of any free time I have for the next year or so.

I wish they would make a followup to Company of Heroes. Pacific based or something.

Best real time strategy game i've played imo

hmm. Link appears to be a new game "Company of Heroes Online". Open beta. Weird.

I bought the entire CoH set and all expansions for like $5 on Steam on a sale a couple of months ago. Good stuff.

Keep us in the loop. The wife is thinking of getting me this for Xmas and I need to know whether I should wave a green flag or a yellow.

Kinda disappointed that the games I want most don't come out til January/February 2011 and all my free time will be in December :lmao:

What did you think about the ending?
Option B: - it's a story within a story within a story. We don't know yet who is the ultimate puppet master.

The last ellipsis - a creative way to tell us "to be continued"

I'd recommend it, you can probably find a good deal on it now too. Its definitely an engaging story, you don't get that much in games anymore.

Played until about midnight last night. It seems the A-Spec races are run by you as the driver, and B-Spec races (the one I did the first night) has a computer driver. I was thinking since I had my B license only that I could only run B-Spec but that isn't the case. The beginner races were very easy, I was winning those with no problem with stock cars that were even a bit underpowered. I moved up a level and started a cup series and was getting my ### handed to me until I bought a car and started modding it. It seems like the same basic formula as previous GT games which isn't a bad thing, but I was expecting more damage physics to be involved, although maybe that comes more into play as I move out of the beginner and amateur settings.

For some reason I was under the impression that Mass Effect 2 was coming out for the PS3 right after New Years. Instead, I see now from Amazon that it actually doesn't hit until the very end of the month, a week after Dead Space 2. With Killzone 3 coming in late Februrary, it looks like I'll be passing on ME2 for now and going with DS2 instead.

2011 is really heavily front-loaded. I wish some of those titles could have been put out in November/December 2010 instead.

I think the games have been paced out quite well, its just you haven't played many of them probably. About every two weeks a new big game gets pumped out right now. Assassin Creed: Brotherhood, Halo Reach, Black Ops, Fable III, New Vegas, Dead Rising 2, Kinect, Rock Band III, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and Gran Turismo 5 make a very solid list. Not to mention the games like Enslaved and Vanquish that are being Alan Wake'd by the big guns.

Yeah, really more of it has been that most of the stuff that's come out in the past 6 months or so has been stuff that I have no interest in, whereas 2011 has more games of interest to me than I would ever be able to play. I only play half a dozen or so games per year. Out of the ones you just mentioned, AC:B is the only one that's even vaguely interesting to me, so a lot of this is just personal preference.(Edit: And New Vegas, which I played earlier).

This is the exact same problem I'm facing. None of the games that came out recently interest me all that much, and the ones that do are single player games that I'd rather purchase when the price drops to $20 or $30. So because of this, I've decided to acquire some old $20/30 PS3 games for myself this holiday season. Here are some games I'm thinking of: Bioshock (1 and 2), Demon Soul's, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Far Cry 2, inFamous, and Darksider's. Am I missing any obvious good games that can be purchased in that price range? I already own all rockstar games, Fallout 3, Borderlands, and MGS4. And I'm not really looking for any multi-player FPS games since I plan on buying Killzone 3 when it comes out.

If you look hard enough, you can probably get both Bioshock games for $30. And it will be $30 well spent.

Dead Space is one I would add to your list.

Bioshock 1&2, Dead Space, Demons Soul's(if you like rpgs), and Assassin Creed 2 are all excellent games. If you are into fighting games, Super Street Fighter is the best fighter since they were big in the arcades and can be had for $15.

Just picked up Bioshock used for $10 at the local game store for Xbox.

I love FPS shooters, but I'm just not good at survival games. Any game where you pick up bullets two or three at a time wasn't designed for this guy. I'm playing it on normal and it's incredibly hard for me right now. I haven't even got to the first of those mech things yet and I'm getting destroyed.

The hacking mini-games are pretty fun, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to get into this game.

Get good at using plasmids and the game won't be tough. Shooting rivet guns and the like is best thought of as the secondary option.I like the lightning/electricity plasmid myself.

I am a sick person but when the getting is good you go get.

Gamestop buy 2 get one free on all used games today.

Total spent with Power Rewards 10% discount 70 bucks.

Games purchased for my PS3 and going into the que for next year (have several that I am playing currently)

Badlands

Valkyria Chronicles

Batman Arkum Asylum (my son will love this)

GTA IV

Tiger Woods 2009

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (my son will love this)

Averag game price = $11.66

Now that is how you buy games IMO.

this is an underrated game, i think.
