time to go xmas shopping. thanks for the heads up.
Went to go take advantage of this deal. Assassin's Creed II and Arkham Asylum were still 19.99 and couldn't find a third game to make it worth it. :kicksrock:

Well, I ended up grabbing a PS3 slim off amazon for 300. I got a 75 dollar amazon credit for buying it.

What are the must play games for this system?

Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has apparently been confirmed for November 2011 and is being built on a brand new engine thank God .
Not sure about this - the whole "improve/level by doing" defines the Elder Scrolls series - been that way since Daggerfall. The thing that annoyed me the most was scaling enemies. I want there to be places I should not be going, and I don't want simple highway bandits carrying glass armor/weapons just because I am level 30.

In principle that's okay. But in practice, it didn't work. If you tried to just go and play Oblivion and level up naturally by doing what you'd normally do, it quickly became unplayable without turning the difficulty slider way down. You would end up "accidentally" leveling in stats like athletics (or whatever) and not getting your full allotment of stat points to distribute. Instead, if you wanted to level your character properly, you had to deliberaly "tag" skills that you could easily control and that you wouldn't use by accident, and then you had to grind. And grind. And grind. Sorry, but that sucks, and it's a broken game design. They could salvage something like the Oblivion system if they guaranteed that you'd always get X amount of stat points every level-up regardless of what skills you leveled. I could live with that. I just don't want Oblivion's system coming back as-is.

Going to fire up Heavy Rain tonight. I borrowed it from my Brother in-law.

Also been getting back into BCBF2 in anticipation of some new maps and some new DLC with Vietnam. I also love the scope on my G-3....awesome.

Still playing NBA2K11 to death as it is the best sports game ever!

Still have Madden 2011 in heavy rotation along with NCAA 2011.
Please post your thoughts on Heavy Rain as I am considering buying it once the price drops. Madden '11 was a huge disappointment for me.
About 35-40% done with this game.

Outstanding and unique. I am really enjoying the music, the characters. It is really a beautiful looking game too. I would wait for it to be 24.99 or less and then i would say go for it.

The controls are clumsy here and there but overall I would give it thus far a solid 8/10 but again I am not done with it yet and the tension is building in the story and has taken a few twists and turns.
Excellent... thanks for the update. ;)

finally got Heavy Rain from Goozex.

It's pretty fun so far, kind of like a 2010 version of Dragon's Lair.

A lot more forgiving than Dragon's Lair ever was too...

You can probably get it for cheap nowadays.

Demon Souls.

Wow. What a crazy good game. So glad I picked this gem up. A old school, hard RPG/Action game. No easy save stations everywhere. You die...you start the level all over.

And the online element is just awesome.

I am hooked.

My favorite game of this gen so far.

Yea, I LOVE this game. It has - without a doubt - the best sword/shield/etc combat of any game I've ever played. I'd love to see this combat engine used in other RPG's. I know many people stayed away from this game when they heard that you have to start levels over, but honestly, it's "part of the game", and quite fun.

Alan Wake mini review- 4/5 ( or like 8.5/10?)

This game took me by surprise as one of the best stories in a video game I have ever seen. For those out there looking for innovative, original ideas, this is the game to go for. The game play is different from everything in the market as of now, but it is really well executed. The action and narrative pace keep the game going solid throughout. The environments are fantastic and the characters are interesting.I'd recommend picking it up for a discounted price.

Mirror's Edge review- 3.5/5( 7.8/10?) very favorable.

Went back and played Mirror's edge this week. This game really is a blast once you get the controls down. The first person view, while sometimes dizzying, really creates striking visuals to any passerby. Fast-paced and breathtaking puzzle-action, only hindered by the fighting aspect of the game. It's simply too difficult at times to stay alive while trying to angle the camera in position to land great blows on the enemies. At the same time though, it feels amazing when you actually get it done after trying ten or so times. Otherwise, this is a wonderful game. Highly recommended.

Need a good single player game. I play a good share of video games, but not as much as a lot of people in here.

I enjoyed Bioshock 1 and 2, Mirror's Edge, and Limbo for single-player games in the last ~year and a half or so. I've spent most of my gaming time playing Gears of War 2 multiplayer (as some here can attest).

What do you recommend? I keep up with the games and new releases, so I at least have a pretty good grasp on the basics of the games available, but nothing has really jumped out at me in the last few months. I am willing to look past crappy gameplay if the concept/graphics/storyline are great....but I don't want some terrible game, obviously.

Mass Effect 2 or Assassin Creed 2 for really great single player campaigns. Borderlands if you want some co-op goodness. There are a lot of other single player games I could recommend Pete, but they are more niche, AC2 and ME2 are universally liked.

I've heard that this game is exceedingly hard, though. Is that true?I don't really want to play something that's going to frustrate me, frankly. I don't mind a tough game, but I'll lose focus real quick if the game is insanely hard. I'm the kinda guy who played Bioshock on medium/hard difficulty and left Vita-Chambers on, if you know what that means.

I'll probably check out alan wake once it falls below 1000 pts on goozex, sounds interesting.Mirrors Edge is fun and addicting. One of my favorites of the last couple years.

Not sure how I feel about ME/ME2. I've never been an RPG fan at all...which is the same reason I've stayed away from the Fallout series. A good friend of mine loves the ME series, the Fallout series, and the Oblivion/Elder Scrolls series, and I've seen him play and have never been enthralled enough to go buy one.For other reference, I greatly enjoyed GTA III/Vice City/IV, and I liked the bits and pieces I played of Prince of Persia (this was years ago).GTA IV, Bioshock 1 and 2, Mirror's Edge, and Limbo are really the only games I've played in the last 3-4 years that AREN'T a sports game or Gears 1/2.

IMO Mass Effect 2 is not an RPG. It is nothing like Fallout/Fallout(WRPG) or Final Fantasy(JRPG). In fact, I would say it plays like much higher quality and more in depth GTA than a RPG. Mass Effect 1 on the other hand is much more RPG, but Mass Effect 2 had its RPG elements scrapped for the main stream.

Yes, I played Red Dead. Once I beat the game, I put it down and have barely picked it up, other than a brief stint with Undead Nightmare. (ETA: I never got 100% completion...kinda lost interest after finishing the story mode)I knew I was forgetting a game...

If you got a PS3, inFamous might be something you'd be interested in.

Currently playing Kinect sports. Will probably be spending sunday in bed from multiple sore muscles from extended boxing and volleyball sessions. The recording session of your victory dance after vanquishing your opponent is money. The recording of your gameplay is pretty awesome also. It has finally replaced the wii for our motion gaming. I am very curious to see if the next tiger woods will be kinect capable.

How do you play Kinect while in the La-Z-Boy munching on Doritos?

EA has said they may never make a golf game for Kinect. Here's an article explaining why. link
According to them, EA was unable to get the game running well on Microsoft's motion-sensing device and opted to leave it out of the show completely rather than display something that didn't work.

As you might be able to imagine, the movement required to complete a full golf swing while facing the television can present some problems for Kinect. At various points during your swing, your arms and hands become obscured by your body, causing Kinect to lose track of these appendages.

According to our sources, this meant that EA was having trouble establishing any kind of realistic swing control for its game on Kinect, so instead of working through the problems, the publisher just opted to skip motion controls completely for the Xbox 360 version. Whether this means that the final Xbox 360 build will have no Kinect support, or if golf game devs are just going to have to get clever in their Kinect implementation remains to be seen. Let's hope this problem can be worked through soon, since I've got a wicked slice that I need to get rid of, and golf pros cost to much.

I do have a PS3, but I don't play it often. I took a long look at both inFamous and Prototype when they released, but never pulled the trigger. Did you really enjoy them? Two games that have been on my waiting list for awhile are WET and F.E.A.R. Might go with one of these.I took a look at Condemned....it looks interesting. Also, Assassin's Creed 2 is a game that I never really considered, but I might give it a try.

inFamous was good but not great. Seeing as how you can get it for under $20 these days, I'd say it's worth a buy. I never played Prototype so I can't compare those two.Condemned 2 sucked. Even for at it's current price point (<$10), I can't recommend it.Assasins Creed 2 was great. Be sure to read a plot summary of AC1 before you play it, but it's really good once you get the basic idea behind the franchise down.

Massive thunderstorms have been hitting my place for 2.5 days now. Our Lan lines went out since 10AM and they just came back on, hence no internet. I decided it was time to play BioShock 2: Minerva's Den DLC. Its absolutely fantastic and fits right in with both Bioshock's campaigns. Well worth the 800MP if you are a Bioshock fan.

As an aside, and I never thought I'd ask this, but is Black Ops worth a purchase?

About my gaming: I generally hate twitch shooters. I've never been good at Halo, and I've never really been a fan. I played COD: World at War for about a month before giving up on it. I played COD: MW2 for roughly the same amount of time.

Is Black Ops just more of the same? Cause if it is, I can't see myself really enjoying it. But a lot of people seem to like it, including some of my cousins and some of my good FBG friends.

I need some quality, unbiased FBG opinions...

For you, probably not worth a purchase. It is Call of Duty at its core mechanics, but it does feel different. Perhaps less gimmicky, but it is a twitch shooter and plays like one. The main difference between it and last years MW2 is it takes a little longer to bring someone down because there is no stopping power, the maps are smaller in general, and the weapons have more recoil. It does have a great single player campaign even if it is 6-8 hours long. Also, you should consider if zombie mode does anything for you, but there are only two maps currently for the traditional version. IMO if you don't feel like playing a CoD game, you could buy 2-3 games in the area of Assassin Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Borderlands, Alan Wake, and Dead Space for the same amount of cash. I suggest taking a list of 6-7 games that you may like and look around at video reviews. This is not to determine what someone else would rate them, but to see in game footage of the games. Because you never know if something will catch your eye and interest you.

Dude, don't do it. You sound just like me. Save your money.I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't get Black Ops. I'm sure the SP is great, but you'll hate the MP. I really tried to like MW2. Every single time I played the MP, I didn't have fun, even with our FBG buddies. I just HATE twitch shooters. There are a bunch of other reasons I didn't like the MP in MW2, but the biggest is the twitch part. Even when I got on rolls and did well, it just wasn't fun for me.

Don't listen to them, get it!!!111Seriously though, it's the same game online. As much as I'd like to play with you, if you didn't like the multiplayer in the others, you won't like this.Although, you could almost buy blops for just single player, zombies, and wager matches and get your money's worth.

I'm about to jump right into AC: Brotherhood without playing the first two (waiting for AC:II to come in from goozex). I have played some of the first one but nothing too serious, just to mess around with it on my friends system. Now, I'm not worried about the gameplay because I'll be able to pick that up rather quickly but is there anything I need to know about the story, or can someone direct me to some reading up on the story?

I would say Battlefield Bad Company 2 might be a better choice. It is still a shooter, but tends to be more tactical in nature and slower paced. Sure, there is the need to be quick on the trigger, but it is MUCH slower paced than the Halo-esque games.

Stopped by Gamestop while running errands today....picked up:

Assassin's Creed 2 - new, $30

F.E.A.R. - used copy, only $10

Skate 2 - new, $20

These will probably keep me busy for a bit. Cross two games off my list that I had "almost purchased" for years in FEAR and Skate, and AC2 seemed to have pretty cool gameplay and I know it had great reviews. Hope for the best.

I should wait until like 3 years later to buy games more often....got all these games for the price of 1 new game...
