Andy, ME2 just came out on PS3. Could you please put that last post in spoiler tags so you don't ruin it for anyone else?

How were killzone 1 and 2
I never played Killzone 1, but I loved Killzone 2. The online play is heavily team- and class-based. You can just run around randomly shooting people if you want, but you're really missing out if you don't stick with your squad and work toward the objectives (which change on the fly over the course of a match). From reading previews, my understanding is that the controls for KZ3 are going to be lighter and more responsive than they were in KZ2. I have mixed feelings about this because I really liked the KZ2 controls, but I was in the minority on that one so I'm not surprised that they're going this route. Regardless, KZ3 is the game I'm most looking forward to this year. I could seriously see myself playing this regularly from 2/22 all the way through early November, when Skyrim and Uncharted 3 come out.
Bjs had KZ 2 for 20 bucks. Worth it in your opinion?

Oh and please no atari 2600 spoilers. I am bout to reach the end of Pitfall.
I know, I know. :bag: I usually wait at least a few months after a game comes out before I buy it, so I end up paying $20-$30 instead of $50-$60. Ordinarily, I wouldn't say anything, since it'd be my fault for waiting so long on a game. But since this just got released for PS3, I figured I could say something.Plus, I don't like to miss an opportunity to speak down and act all condescending towards someone. :)Thanks though, Andy.

I don't know how active the online community is for this any more, and you have to figure that whatever's there is going to get decimated when KZ3 hits. So you're really paying $20 for the SP campaign. My attitidue on FPS is that if I'm just going to play the SP campaign, it's automatically a rental. This game does have offline play against bots on the multiplayer maps, but even still this is really an online game like COD or BF:BC.

Just wrapped up AC2 and started Bioshock. I don't know why everybody raves over Bioshock. Granted, I just started it but it just seems like a shooter to me.

Might end up putting it back on the shelf and starting Fallout 3. I have a long list of older games I want to play.

I felt the same way about Bioshock initially. I'm guessing that practically everyone did. Wait until you encounter your first little girl and have to make a decision (you'll know it when you see it), then play for another 45 minutes or so. If you're not hooked in by then, this game is probably not for you.

OK, cool. Thanks. Glad I asked. I guess I will try KZ2 when it comes out as I like FPS and Blops is my first experience. Hoping that will make me a little better when KZ3 comes out

I'll go even further than that....When I first played Bioshock, I was fascinated at first but bored easily. I put the game down when I was about 1/3 through it and didn't play for a few months. I eventually picked it back up and once I hit a certain particular scene roughly 1/2 through the game, I was hooked and I ended up finishing the rest of the game in like a day and a half. I couldn't put it down. The gameplay itself is less than stellar, IMO, but the graphics and storyline are just fantastic. Make sure to spend time gathering and listening to all the audio diaries - you're cheating yourself (and you won't get the same great experience) if you don't take your sweet time.

So I figured I would do all the DLC and a handful of side missions before continuing the the main storyline in ME2. (I haven't gone after the IFF yet, but I have my whole team assembled with everyone loyal). Whoever designed Operation Overlord ought to be banned from the video game industry. Not only should they not be allowed to design games any more, they shouldn't even be allowed to play video games. Not even a Galaga machine at the airport. Why anybody would decide to suddenly turn a game heavy on conversation, shooting, and team-based combat into a vehicle platforming game is a mystery that I don't think I want to know the answer to.
Not at my ps3 right now but how do you start the overlord DLC? I'm where you are (right before the IFF) and all I remember having left on the secondary assignments are the firewalker missions. Also, what is the "joker" mission?

I'm in the (very small) minority that didn't like Bioshock either. Great story and atmosphere but very poor gameplay for a FPS, IMO.

You get a message to tell you where to go, though it is marked on the map. The Firewalker missions are entirely forgettable. You will know the Joker mission when you get there.

:lmao: The main thing for Bioshock is to collect as many audio diaries as possible even if you don't normally do that sort of thing. They enhance the experience quite a bit. Just like Tasker said, the first 1/3-1/2 can be like every other shooter, but then it picks up big time and has my favorite level in any game ever. Also, playing the game on hard difficulty will make the gameplay less generic due to having to use strategy compared to destroying everything by sneezing.

Looks like they opened the killzone 3 beta to everyone. Started yesterday and goes til February 14th. I am going to try and DL it when I get home today

There's a new game on Steam called Magicka that looks pretty good. It's a fantasy, dungeon crawler type roleplaying game kind of similar to Diablo. It has 4-player co-op and is only $10. I just saw the review of the game on the Angry Joe Show and I have to say I'm considering buying it. Is anyone on else on Steam interested in trying this in co-op multiplayer?

So I played 2 quick games and I felt like I was thrown into a tornado. It all seemed to be happening way faster then I was comfortable with. I did have a 3 kill streak to start my 2nd game which I was happy about but I feel like the game is clearer in COD. Maybe I am just not used to it but my first impression was not great. I will give it another go again this weekend.I did like that you get to pick a class and I assume do things specific within that class that other classes cant.

I was also only able to play very briefly last night (one session). I liked it a lot, but it's been quite a while since I've played Killzone and I need to get back into the swing of things. My only complaints were the new menus and that the map seems really confined, kind of like Blood Gracht from KZ2. I'm sure some of the maps in the full game will be more open than this one.Anyway, my plan is to play a lot more tonight and try out the various classes.

For PC Steam users, SlaX and I are giving Magicka a run. $10 and has 4 player co-op. Looks to be like Diablo with a lot of humor to it.

I've been messing around a little with the single player campaign. Nothing much. Just the opening tutorial dungeon and I'm already convinced that this is a hit. I love the concept of combining spells for different effects how they are used for puzzle solving as well as hack n' slash/shoot em up type. The humor and in-jokes has already started to show. The first achievement you start building toward is "I put on my robe and wizard hat". There's a part right after you learn the lightning spell where you cross a stream and you get your robe wet and the game tells you to dry yourself off before using lightning (makes sense, otherwise, I'll shock the #### out of myself). So I conjured up fire on myself to dry off, but I accidentally cued up fire twice and put myself on fire after drying myself off, requiring me to have to jump back into the water. I could just see moments like that being fun in groups. Hop in with us if you want to give it a try. Also, there is a free demo if you don't want to fork over the $10 to try it first. But I don't think it'll have co-op multiplayer.

Played about 7 matches of KZ3. Hard to imagine I'll be picking this game up.

My head is killing me and I feel like I need to vomit. The controls and "gamefeel"are awful. It feels like your whole body is swaying the whole time. My immediate reaction was to try to find away to lower the sensitivity, but I couldn't find a way to do that. I guess that's that "heavy" feel that I read about. It's awful.

The snow makes matters even worse. I'm not sure what the point of that is, except to make the player feel even more sea sick.

I'm sure getting more used to it would help, but I don't feel compelled to want to try. Good chance I've played all the KZ I ever will.

The environments seem beautiful, though it's hard to take the time to appreciate it.

With some getting used, the maps seem pretty cool. I like that they are vertical. Or map singular, I guess. I think I played the same map every game. Some open air would be really nice.

That is how I felt, except I called it a tornado. Glad to know it wasnt just me. Ill give it another shot though

I'll try to. I hate to write a game off based on a relatively brief experience. I've only tried a few other FPS games, but so far they've all only served to make me appreciate COD more.

I am looking for a two player FPS for the PS3 where two players can play online together in the actual campaign mode not the usual COD team type stuff. What are the recs of the FBG population?

I haven't played it, but you might check out Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. I heard you can do the campaign with 2 players. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by COD team-type stuff, but the Co-op stuff on Modern Warfare 2 is alot of fun. Don't know if you've already tried that and don't like it, but if you haven't tried, it's pretty awesome.

Rainbow 6: Vegas 2, Call of Duty: World at War, and Borderlands all have co-op campaigns.

I think that is the entire basis for the Army of 2 series.

The Killzone 3 beta was pretty fun when I was able to connect. Now I'm seriously rethinking my preorder given how spotty the servers are. :goodposting:

On the bright side, I finished ME2 and got the "good" ending. That was a really good game, but that playthrough ended up taking about 48 hours. Obviously I did most of the DLC and a bunch of side quests and took my sweet time on everything. I would really like to play it again as a Renegade and with a different class, but I'm not sure I'm up for that. This is kind of like how I felt at the end of Fallout -- awesome game, absolutely got my money's wroth out of it, probably won't be starting over from scratch any time soon.

Gave it a few more games yesterday. Figured out how to lower the sensitivity, which helped, sort of. The seesawing of the screen when you run is something I doubt I'd ever get used to though. Feels like trying to run on a little rowboat. I guess there's a specific feel for this game that they shoot for, I assume to make it harder. I saw people on the KZ forums complaining that they even adjusted the feel of KZ3 to try and appease the COD guys, as compared to KZ2. Sounds like this franchise just isn't for me.

I've never played COD so I can't directly compare the two, but yeah, the controls and movement in KZ3 are much more fluid and light than KZ2. The weapons still have "weight" to some degree, but not like in the previous game.

Is it too late to preorder Bulletstorm to get the Gears 3 beta? Does anyone know how this will work?
All preorders in North America get the Epic edition. You still can if you want to.
When will there be a public beta?I really have no desire to play Bulletstorm, I just want the beta.
No info has been released besides that they will give Bulletstorm some time before the beta is launched. Bulletstorm comes out at the end of February, so my guess for the beta would be around April/May. This would give two months for Bulletstorm to have its due, while still providing a good chunk of time to make changes to GoW3 after the beta is done.

I probably would pick it up around the holidays for cheaper, but not retail. Its a single player game that has a horde mode. I have not played a single shooter game without multiplayer besides Bioshock, Mass Effect, or Deus Ex that was worth full retail. Those games have fantastic stories, Bulletstorm will not.
