Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (6 Viewers)

My home rig is currently:

Core i7 920

Sabretooth X58 motherboard

16 GB DDR3 RAM

AMD 6970 2 GB video card (was a 6950 that I flashed to a 6970 and works flawlessly) - I had 2 of these in Crossfire, but the motherboard had the 2 PCIe slots too close, and there was no ventilation.

I would have to look, but I believe my PSU is a Corsair 850W dealio. Modular, of course.

I have 3 28" LCD's each 1920X1200 in Eyefinity. There is a cheap Displayport adapter that I used that was only $30 vs the $100 ones you see, and it works fine. If you are interested, I can let you know.

I also have a 120 GB SSD, as well as like 5 other HDD's from 1 to 1.5 TB each for storage and programs.

I just bought this case for it all and will be transferring the whole shebang to that one very soon. Hopefully this week.

Just a friendly reminder to my Steam friends - make sure to update your wishlist with your 10 most wanted games. They have 100 people winning their top 10 at the end of this sale. It would be a shame if you actually win and only get 3 crappy old games or none at all.
Thank you very much.

So that's about a $2k setup, right, MC?
Hmm, let's see. . . (estimating here)3 LCD's - got them for $250 each, so $750CPU $280RAM $120Case $110Video card $250PSU $100SSD $180 on saleHDD's 4 at $60 each for $240Mobo $150That is about $2180, but that also includes 3 28" LCD's, so pretty nice there. I would do the Sandy Bridge if I were building today, so you would save a bit on the CPU. On a side note, I have a spare 6950 that I flashed to a 6970 - it works flawlessly, just cannot have it in my system due to motherboard space between slots. I could sell that for a decent deal.

Just did some study and it looks like the flashable 6950's are all but gone. The 6970's sell for $310 on the low end. Might just see if I can unload this baby for $250 locally.

If I ever see my money from FT, then I'll build a new rig :)

I will post pics of the build as I go, as I really want to work on cable management when I put it in the new case. I have water cooling on the CPU, as well.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is up for ~$7 today. That seems like more of an xbox 360 game to me though. Anybody play it on a PC?This sale is pretty addicting - already bought 3 games at steep discounts and not sure when I'll get to play through them.
I have it on PC. I played it using an XBox 360 controller although you can play using a mouse/keyboard combination. I agree it's a game that's more of a console title, but it looks and plays fantastic on PC.

I'm sure everyone has it at this point but Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are being sold as a bundle for $7.49 today on Steam.

Been spending a good amount of time on CIV V for the first time since it came out. Back then, I decided to wait for the patch and then didn't get a chance to get back into it until now.

Playing as Napoleon on a huge map at marathon speeds on King level. Seems that a cultural victory might be a bit too easy to achieve on this setting so I'm steering away from it. Next time, I might just disable it in the setup menu.

Is that entire case mesh? That's going to be noisy as all get out.

FINALLY got my hands on a copy of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon! The past game was a awesome mindless fun cult classic. They added 3 player online co-op and a 6 person survival mode in this one, the last game only had couch co-op. The four Gamestop's near me each got 3 copies for 360 & PS3 and two of them were pre orders. They ran out first thing in the morning on launch day(6/2) and ran out again yesterday when the second shipment came in. Best Buy, Gamestop, Frys, and Mom and Pop stores apparently underestimated the demand for this small developed title. I finally found my copy at KMart when one of my friends said they sold video games. Who knew KMart sold electronics? They got exactly one copy and its mine. To top it off, the retail price starts at $40.

Need a co-op review asap. This seems like a game I could play while holding two babies.

Cheapassgamers has a whole section devoted to KMart video game deals. Yes, they are underrated as a game seller and KMart has begun to try to market it. I wish the Sears side would do the same thing. And I'm confused. Didn't the game release 2 days ago? You say it released June 2nd? But yes, it's small games like this that pre-orders were made for. Not the massively marketed games that every store is going to get 100+ copies of. That's why you should pre-order the underrated titles. But usually everyone expects that they'll be available since it's not as popular. Then when the game store sees a small game like this not getting many pre-orders, they won't order many extras. Thus you get the short supply.

Yep KMart actually had a solid selection of all the new titles and the best group of lesser known games that Gamestop and Best Buy don't carry. I picked up Tales of Vesperia for $15 and haven't seen that game for sale in years. It was always hard to find.Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon was Gamestop exclusive 7/2-7/4 and then released everywhere else on 7/5. I meant to say July 2nd originally.

Ah. Gotcha.

Madshot, I'm going to holler at you on the box. I've been badgering my friends to get EDF:IA and play it with me but no dice so far.

I played the #### out of the first one, thanks to a recommendation from newteech way back when. This one looks much, much more promising.

Played the first two sections so far and looked around at other forums.

EDF: IA has 15 total levels. They are broken into three sections with five parts each. The game is meant to be played on normal first, then hard, then inferno. There are four classes(armor suits) in the game with the Tactical(Soldier), Battle(Heavy), Trooper(Medic/Scout), and Jet(Long Range/gets a jetpack). Each "class" has 5-6 different weapon types that you can equip and each weapon type has 10-18 unlockable or findable unique weapons.

When you complete levels and kill enemies you gain currency/EXP in the form of CR(not sure what it stands for). This money/exp will add towards whichever class you completed the level with for its tier levels and also be collected into a main account for buying weapons and specials at certain tiers. There are also many weapons to find from random drops on special enemies. All weapons and class tier levels travel from normal to hard to inferno. You can select specific missions and difficulties that you have unlocked at any time if you want to farm for levels, money, or weapons.

The story isn't much but I wasn't expecting anything so its fine. The voice acting during gameplay from the NPCs is ala a 90's action movie so its amusing to me.

The actual gameplay is fun and simple and has a certain charm to it. Here's a

. The graphics are dated but work well at the same time. The enemies look good and so far their is a solid variety. Active reloads are gears of war style but only speed up if you hit the main part, everything else takes full reload time. It has full destructible buildings. From reading on forums, after beating the game you can play remix levels on that difficulty that change the enemies and up their powers. The amount of enemies scales to the number of real players in the game. From what I have read, the normal play through can be easy but then hard amps it up and inferno is really tough.Haven't played any co-op yet but I toyed with the match making. There are public game which you choose what level and difficulty you want, then it places you randomly in a game. If there are no games open, then you host your own. You can also make a private game and send out invites. The survival mode has match making included and has 6 maps.

Edit: Played another two sections and still digging the game. Really like the weapon and class choices needing money/exp to unlock. Apparently the survivial mode you don't get to take your character into it, but you get a set character due to balancing issues. But, the development team is following many forums for the game and actually responding to fans and asking for their thoughts about things that can be improved upon.

Best Buy has the B2G1 free deal also next week if there is other games you want. Plus if you preorder from Best Buy you can get 40% extra on trading in any games.

I find the yellow hideous but that is one awesome case. Any chance they make it in all black?BTW, you giving any consideration to upgrading the 920 to a 970?

They also make a black and blue, but it was not the shell-shocker for the day. Next time I upgrade, it will be to either Sandy Bridge or a newer gen CPU. The 920 is a beast and does all I need.

GD Steam.

I have Mass Effect 1 and 2, Empire and Napoloeon total War GOY edition and Mafia 2 in my cart for $31.

Any reason not to get any/all of these?

Mafia 1 is also on sale. Should I go straight for Mafia 2 or should I throw 1 into the mix as well.

I had also planned on playing ME2 on the PS3 but for $6 it seems dumb not to play on the PC

Last night someone from the FBG group was playing LFD and it wasn't one of the regs - I do not recall their name.

Maybe we can get a good campaign up this weekend.

I also bought Fallout GOTY, but am not liking it much. How can you switch weapons in combat without using the "interface"?

Like a new weapon feature that every other game uses.

Not familiar with FO3 PC interface but on the PS3 the D pad is used for quick weapon select.

I need it for PC. I have even used a macro program to write some keyboard functions but still no dice.I would like for the "\" key to be my next weapon key.

Haven't played FO3 in a bit but I know you can cycle weapons withoutthe interface. I can't remember how though. Maybe set it in your keyboard/mouse setup.

Pretty sure you can map weapons to the number keys.eta: I think you go to the weapons screen, then hold in a number and click the weapon.

Thats what it was. You can map the weapons to the number keys but there is no previous/next weapon interface.

Finished my first playthrough of Fallout: New Vegas last night. I need to buy the DLC, but I don't have any MSP for it right now. Although I already own Fallout 3 on PC, I picked up the Fallout 3 GotY so I could pick up all the DLC for $10. From what I've read, my saves can transfer over. If not, I'll just start over. But not right away.

Anybody else on the Xbox 360 know of some hidden gems of games that aren't main stream? Recently a friend has turned me onto Deadly Premonition, Bayonetta, and now Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon and I really, really like them. They definitely did not receive the major cash flow that most titles get, but they make up for it with a certain X factor that most most games just don't have. They lack many things the big games have, but they just end up being some of the most fun games to play. Besides Portal 2, these three non AAA games made by small development teams have been my favorites in the past 12-15 months, not to mention they are discounted price wise from day one.

What's the deal with video game credits?

I just finished AC:Brotherhood, and I sat through ~10 minutes of credits before getting pissed off and exiting to the main menu (hoping of course that it would remember that I just beat the game and start me from there). Of course it didn't, so I had to replay the end sequence (took only like 5 minutes) and now I'm watching the credits again. I'm timing it...at approx. 12.5 minutes long now.

Does it have good music. Usually I ignore the actual credits and just blast the ending song. :

Not really. For the 2nd time through, I changed the input and watched TV while they ran. Ended up a bit over 14 minutes, I think.

I do wish AC:Brotherhood allowed you to play through most of the credits like AC2 did.

My list, pretty much in this order:Castlevania: SOTN BraidPrototypeScott Pilgrim The GameSerious Sam HD Most of those games have demos available too.

Holy cow is Frozen Synapse a blast. A fantastic tactical simulator. I'm not one for multiplayer often, but it's a blast with this game.
