Think I am getting close to the end of Tomb Raider. Not nearly as many QTEs later on in the game as there was in the beginning. I came to realize, I simply don't understand exactly when you need to press the appropriate buttons, so I've taken to just mashing them as often/quickly as possible when they appear. Seems to be working ok. Just got the new Compound Bow and the silencer for the assualt rifle. A little more salavage and I can add the scope. Looking forward to sniping. Anyways, I am in one of the two tombs in the beach area, then it is on to the Endevor for some tools. Like I said, hopefully I am getting close to completing this one. Really am enjoying it.
Oh, and I will add, I am a relic and GPS hunting fool. I am terrible with the challenges but, since GPS caches and relics appear on the map, I have been getting 100% of those in each area. Not really sure why, the whole GPS cache seems silly. I'm not even sure collecting a set does anything for you?

The only reason I used anything but the bow was for the achievements. The bow is so awesome in the game that you really don't need anything else.
I felt like that through much fo the game. But now that I am getting late game, not so much. In the chapter where you had to return to the ship, there were several areas with some of the largest hordes in the game. And they threw in some heavily armored dudes at that. In those battles, there was no way to fight using only the bow. There were just to many coming to quickly. A couple of those battles were really the first time I bothered lobbing grenades just to soften up the groups. And the heavily armored dude when you first boarded the ship, oooof. I went in to Skyrim mode. Don't know how many times that dude took an arrow to the knee! Was really happy to have the melee perks there.

It's a great game. I got it for myself and two kids. I think it was an all time low of five bucks during the holiday sale.

In case you missed it, Disney has completely shut down LucasArts, meaning all games currently in development - including Star Wars 1313 - are canceled.

The reports make LA sound like a complete disaster at this point. So it's not really surprising. Disney is going to license the characters to other game makers though so we may be better off in the long run. Haven't had a ton of time to play Bioshock Infinite yet but my first impressions are really good. There are TONS of similarities to the first game, which is not a bad thing. And they really spent a long time creating this world and adding tons of small details. I take a lot of extra time listening to every conversation, reading every monument or little detail. It's a beautiful game and a beautiful city they've dreamed up which makes the contrast of combat really stand out. When I melee a person with my hook gadget thing it like grinds their face into mush and sprays blood everywhere and I guess that just stands out more in a bright & shiny environment.
Only complaint so far would be that Bioshock 1 was very scary with the dark, damp close quarters and Big Daddies/Little Sisters, don't feel that way about this one so far although they've definitely worked in some creepiness & mystery.

At first I just stumbled across them. Then I realized that you can get treasure maps in each area's tomb which give you locations of all the items in that area. There may be other ways, but that's what I've found.

Some you stumble on, others are revealed when you acquire a treasure map.
I think if you get on enough of them in an area (if you don't have a treasure map) more are revealed on your map.

Finally cracked open Bioshock: Infinite.
As you'd expect, I'm liking it. I think this story is going to end up being amazing.

Yes.
Doesn't matter. They're all good and Bioshock: Infinite doesn't connect to the first two at all.

I rented it for a day. It wasn't bad. I like the franchise in general. I wouldn't mind picking it up.

I haven't played this year's version but if it's anything close to their normal standards then yes. It's the best baseball franchise going by far.
I have made it to the final chapter/area, so almost complete. I have picked up every GPS cache, document, and all but one damn relic I just cannot figure out how to get too. As for challenges, I blew them off. I imagine the XP is good, but they just don't hold any interest to me for some reason. If I started an area and found the challenge right away, I would have probably finished many, many more than I did. But usually when I discovered them, I was near the point of moving on to the next area. And retracing my steps just didn't hold any interest for me.The only thing that doesn't show up on the minimap at all are the challenge items. I prefer the "true aim" camera in 13 which was taken out for 14. If that's not a concern, I think TW14 is a better game. certainly not drastically better, but more polish and more features.

I'm playing it (I buy this every three years or so - was time for a new one). I like it a lot. Except for load times - it's getting excessive. This console generation is clearly over.
All four majors are in this one, which is kind of cool.

Finished Tomb Raider with a 90% completion rating. No idea if that's good or not. I imagine most of the 10% was challenges since I didn't do those.
Restarted Mass Effect from scratch. I was only to the point where you meet the council and accuse Saurin, so I wasn't out much. The reason I restarted was simply, it had been so long since I had played, I really couldn't remember any of the controls. So I figured I'd just start over. Enjoying it much more this time. It may be because I was off today and had a longer session time. But I was much more in to the story this time. Before, I guess I was in a pure action mood and ME just wasn't doing it for me. Guess TR filled the urge, so now I can kick back and go for a story-driven game.
Restarted Mass Effect from scratch. I was only to the point where you meet the council and accuse Saurin, so I wasn't out much. The reason I restarted was simply, it had been so long since I had played, I really couldn't remember any of the controls. So I figured I'd just start over. Enjoying it much more this time. I'm not much of a shooter fan, myself...like the story-driven RPG's for the most part, mostly because my reflexes now resemble that of my Grandmother's. My question is, if I get this game will I be able to play it successfully without getting killed so many times I quit out of frustration after 3 hours? I don't generally play the Gears or Halo series' for this same reason, but this game looks pretty amazing, so I'm considering it.

Mass effect is all about the story and the dialogue. The action is completely the secondary feature of the game.

Finished my first run through XCOM. Tremendously enjoyable game. The final mission was slightly tougher than expected, but that's mainly because I was sloppy with my maxed-out, all-ghost, mostly-psionic, all-plasma squad.
I think I want to do the next run on Normal (like the first one) but Ironman this time. After starting it up and doing a couple of missions though, I think I may have overestimated what I learned from the first playthrough. I lost a couple of rookies on the second mission, and I'm not completely sure that I'm sequencing the facilities construction correctly, which I know is crucial in the early game. I'm strongly inclined to press on and see how things go. If this doesn't go well, I can always just try a "regular" Classic run.

I usually dont play shooters myself, so you will be ok. Only a couple of spots I needed to retry, but that was my fault really. Ironman is the only way to go. Makes the battles much more intense knowing you can't reload.

SO I finally fired up Tomb Raider. What a great game so far. I must not have played games in a while because this game looks stunning.
Not too worried with the relics just yet but one document is killing me and I can't figure it out.

Right after you get the rope for your bow. You shoot way down the mountain and slide down. As soon as you land there are 3 enemies and a hut just on the right, inside the hut is a relic and a document.
Relic is on a table. the Relic is behind some wood on a table but I can't figure out how to get in there.

If you're talking about what I think you are, you may need to come back to this one after acquiring a future weapon. The game definitely plays like a Metroidvania when it comes to collecting items

Some Mass Effect questions if I may. Talking the original, not the 2nd or 3rd.
What is more important, omni-gel or cash? I have been turning stuff in to omni-gel as I tend to use a bunch since I am the world's worst decrypter or whatever it's called. Secondly, how do you improve decryption (the thing that you use to open locked chests and whatnot)? I can't see any areas I can add points too that say they increase it. I am playing as a soldier, is that why? Tired of failing and reloading. Plus I have found a few items on planetary exploration that I can't even try to open. Thirdly, when you survey a planet and it says it found something (cobalt or whatever), is that it? Or do I need to follow up somehow to "mine" it or whatever?
Oh, I just became a Spectre and did the first two of three off-world side missions I picked up while at the Citadel. Was ambushed investigating a distress signal, then found a survey team that had been turned in to husks. Going after Maj Kyle next. Have to say, having a faily good time with the game, though I find the learning curve pretty steep. Not having a manual makes it tough. I did two planetary systems before I even noticed the Survey option.

Turn to omni gel. Cash is near meaningless in this game as you can find as good or better gear as you can buy. I say this knowing you don't care about trophy's.I am not sure but the decryption mini game never gets easier or harder. As your decryption skill increases, you are given access to decript more containers but the actual act of decrypting them does not change.As a soldier, I think you want to make sure you take a long a character that has good decryption so that you can open the containers. As long as someone in the party has the skill level high enough, you can then perform the button mash decryption.When ever you see something on a planet, walk up to it and follow directions. You will either have to decrypt it or mine it (both similar button pattern type procedures). Only difference being that you can fail mining as much as you want and can still try again. There are side quests that revolve around finding a ton of different items that you either mine or survey for. Check every planet in every system. Some you can't do anything, some you only survey, some you can land on and mine. Also, check for smaller items in the map like moons, space stations, asteroids etc. There is a bunch that you can land on. Key is to just check everything in the map.

It's been a very long time since I played the first Mass Effect on Xbox. I remember decrypting being different than the PC version and I also remember sucking at the console version when it came to decryption (it was the main reason I obtained Omnigel for the most part). This is another huge advantage to the PC version.

Newly retired covered most of it. Omni gel is preferred also because the Mako uses it to repair. So when you get to some missions that require driving and shooting things in the Mako, you will get hit a lot. So you'll want lots of omni gel to repair it.
The decrypting is what it is. IT's always going to be the press the button game. The different level of difficulty only means you either press the buttons 3 times or 5 times. Same game though.
Also to expand upon what Newly retired meant by searching the map. In the space map for a system, you can fly around and sometimes you'll here a noise when you pass something that is searchable. Always check the asteroid belts and moons and keep an eye out for derelict freighters and such. None of it is necessary to play the main game but it's part of what makes mass effect fun.
Another thing, when you land on a planet, there will be spots marked on the overhead map to explore. There are also spots not on that map that you can find. Keep an eye on your radar when driving around. You'll notice orange markers pop up on the radar that don't appear on the map.
