I just got a new MB Pro and am waiting for CK2 to go on sale again... if anyone sees another deal on Steam, please chime in.

ETA: I checked right after sending this and now see a new sale for $20 for the base game and $40 for the package. That's pretty good, right?
During the Amazon.com sale a couple of weeks ago, I got CK2 & all expansions for $15, fwiw.

Will there be a price drop for 360 and PS3 games? How can they justify the same prices across generation platforms?
I'm honestly very surprised that they're sticking with the $60 price point for next-gen games. I was expecting $75-$80. So yeah, this is a weird pricing disparity, but it's the good kind of disparity.

I can also say that I was surprised that the prices for the new generation stayed the same. I'm expecting them to slowly move toward the $70 price point for AAA releases, though. There have already been a few games that release at that in this generation. But considering the prices of N64 games ($70-$90 for some), I'm definitely happy that they chose to stick with the current pricing for now.

edit: Don't know why it put the quote twice. The boards are just f'd up since the change.

Picked up Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for $5 at Target off the clearance rack. 3 of my friends followed in my footsteps and despite getting panned by critic reviews, it is a fun game if you play through the campaign with friends. Playing alone with the AI is admittedly aggravating.

Also started Red Dead Redemption. Only 10% of the way through, but it's incredible. I almost feel overwhelmed with all the stuff there is to do in the game.

If I remember right there are a bunch of plants you have to find that are tedious and that you have to find like 5 rabbits which were annoying. Phenomenal game and story though.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/24/brace-yourself-playstation-network-maintenance-incoming

FYI

If you were going to get down on PlayStation Network tomorrow, Tuesday, June 25th, make sure to keep in mind that PSN will undergo maintenance tomorrow for over six hours. Sony revealed that maintenance will run from 9:30am PT until 4:00pm PT (or 12:30pm PT to 7:00pm ET).

Here’s the good news. While “The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during the maintenance period… you will be able to access online play and apps provided that you have signed in to the Network at some point between now and the time of the maintenance.”

In other words, if you’re planning on playing, say, The Last of Us online tomorrow during the maintenance period, sign in now to flag your account, and you should be fine.

Decided to try Super Meat Boy - played for an hour and my hands hurt. Definitely reminds me of playing NES as a kid trying to make jumps and clinching the controller.

The Witcher: Okay the story telling and voice acting has gotten significantly better than what it was in the early game (although that isn't saying much considering how terrible it was in the prologue). I also really like the combat mechanic and leveling system. There are too many potions IMO and I am not sure all the Signs are necessary either, I find that in most games I typically use 2-3 potions and Powers and the rest pretty much get ignored and this one has been no different.

What is starting to get to me is how long this game is. I am 50 hours in and have only just started the fourth chapter (out of five). And it's not a sneak and snipe game either so the length is all about the length of the main quest and a significant number of side quests.

Good game overall, just a little long.

It's a good thing too. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a very hard time justifying spending $60 on a video game. I almost never do it.

Gamefly has a PC bundle with Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 2 for $29.99. I have no interest in the latter two games but it still seems like a good price for Tomb Raider.

Got a free night's rental from Redbox so I checked out Last of Us for a couple hours.

Naughty Dog sure knows how to start off with a bang, don't they? Plus, the texturing in the game is unreal.

The other two games are really good, that being said if you wait until the steam Summer sale (which is widely believe to be right around the corner), you will likely be able to get all 3 games for like 10 bucks.

I got Sleeping Dogs and all the DLC last winter for $5 and I got Just Cause 2 for $0.39. Tomb Raider is currently $49.99 on Steam, it will be at least 50% and more than likely much cheaper.

Just a heads up, no guarantee obviously buyer beware.

Cool. I have plenty of other games to keep me occupied until TR and Bioshock Infinite prices come down.

after not playing video games for about 10 years i broke down and got a madden and Fifa 13 for my ps3. addicted to the soccer, but pulling hair out over control switching to the "wrong" defender..... anyone who plays have any defensive tips?
There are settings you can adjust, I think. I think the default is for it to change to the defender automatically, so if you try to change manually, it'll switch to a defender farther away from the play. I believe I turned that off so that I just change defenders manually. That might be an older version though; I get them mixed up.

I also use the right stick to change defenders. Just point the stick in the direction of the defender you want to use.
had the setting on manual. tried the right stick.... was ok, but not too much different from the L1. big turning point was learning to hold down X while playing defense, then when they are in or around the box also hold down R1. X faces up. R1 sends in another nearby defender to double team.so my defense is much tighter now. also got a lot better controlling the ball while attacking.

Playing through Knights of the Old Republic for the first time. No, really. I am. Anyway, I just finally saved Bastila and am trying to get off the first planet that we're on due to the quarantine.

Well, I sort of lied earlier. I rented the game when it first came out and I think I played through it for a couple of hours and gave up because I couldn't get into it. Now that I'm more into this sort of RPG, I decided to give it a shot, but I'm still having a hard time getting into it. Even as far as I am, I feel like I'm just hanging in for it to get better.

I was the same way with Mass Effect and Fallout 3. With Mass Effect, I feel the game drags so much until the half-way mark of the first Citadel visit (or after the Citadel and you're on your first real mission). I almost put down Mass Effect and gave up on it the same way I did with KOTOR the first time. I really don't want to make that mistake again.

Anyway, I know we have a lot of fans of the game here. How long should I expect until the game starts hitting on all cylinders?

I would be interested in hearing about this too. KOTOR is a very highly rated game but I didn't get more than a few hours into it before I moved onto something else. I would also compare it to the original ME because I almost lost interest in that too (I'm so glad I didn't because it may be my favorite series of games ever). Will KOTOR end up being that good?

Does Mass Effect get that much better? I've stopped and started it 3x - get to the hearing/trial early in the game, get bored, turn it off.

Do I need to make attempt #4?

Well I'm biased as I love KOTOR and was into it from the beginning. With that said it has to be looked at now for what it is. An older game with what today are just OK graphics. Still it has a pretty good story and lots to do even though you are kind of on a rail. And the Force stuff is fun although to me this one is a bit more about using the light sabers than the force. Also when it came out the interactions determining how characters react to you was pretty new as well and still gets interesting further in as decisions pile up.

No. Again, just Youtube the Vigil conversation on Ilos and move on to ME2.

:goodposting: At this point, KOTOR should be played for the story. If you've played a significant number of modern games then the gameplay in KOTOR isn't going to do it for you.

But the story....Ohh the story.

I agree. I have played it so many times I have most of it memorized but I still enjoy running through it.

It depends if you really enjoy the story behind games or prefer button mashing. If you are a story driven gamer then yes you should stick out the clunkiness of the game play but if you just want to shoot things it probably isn't worth it. For that matter I am not sure ME1 or ME2 are worth playing if you are more about the destination then the journey.

A great story will keep me in a game regardless of limited game play.

anyone have any info on the steam summer sale? is there going to be one this year?
The previous 3 summer sales began on, June 24th, June 30th and July 11th - these are all Thursdays.

My money is on this Thursday, but they may drag it on to next week.

Been playing Mojang's (the developers of minecraft) new game Scrolls. Enjoying it quite a bit, its like a half collectable card game half hex-based strategy game. At the moment it only has three different manas, but a fourth is coming out soon and they all play differently.

Surprisingly easy to jump into, even more surprising how deep the gameplay is. If you like card games, I would recommend this, unlike other online collectable card games, you can't buy cards with money so it isn't pay to win.
