Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Starting a fresh game of Borderlands 2 with a buddy tonight if anybody wants to join in.
What platform?
360My buddy is the assassin guy and I'll likely go mechromancer or gunzerker again . (Had so much fun the first time)
I'm on a PC, don't think we can play cross platform.

I really like the anarchy tree on the mechromancer but it's very weak that you have to rebuild stacks if you stop your gaming session.

Commando's saber turret is also a lot of fun to play with and it's really nice to have the extra firepower.

Never played the gunzerker but the siren probably has the most creative and potentially powerful skill tree, if you choose your levels wisely, IMO.

Have fun.

So I finished up the main story line in Fable 3. Kind of weird game. Such a mix of juvenile and adult. And really they seemed to want to play politics but allow for no gray. I mean you lift the drink ban and then pretty much everyone is throwing up in the street drunk 24/7. Anyway due to my wealth I was able to save the kingdom and not be a tyrant. Still a lot I can do there and I'll probably hop back in to knock out some more accomplishments when I have a few here and there but in general I am done with it. Didn't buy the DLCs.

Well as I mentioned been all swords and sorcery lately(couple of months between Skyrim and Fable) so I moved on to Mass Effect. Initially a little frustrating as some things could have stood a better explanation. Played through a bit to get the hang of things and then restarted so I could do it right. Just arrived at Citadel. Had the first meeting with Udine. Off to do some discovery and maybe some odd jobs.

For you veterans should I worry about buying stuff? Some of these games you can find better than anything you can buy, is this one of them or do I need cash? So far it feels a bit like KOTOR and you didn't really need cash there, although if you had it you could get some cool stuff. With all the armor and weapons seems like cash might be good. But I have read people saying convert excess inventory to omni-gel so I'm not sure.
You will pick up a lot of stuff. That's pretty much where I got weapons and armor early on. Some stuff you may need to buy like if you can wear heavy medium or light armor. By mid game, money is pretty much a non factor with you being able to sell everything. Once you start maxing out inventory, converting to omni gel is useful because you use it to unlock doors and repair the mako (ground vehicle when on a planet).Combat isnt very good compared to modern games but the story is what drives this thing. It will be getting interesting soon.
Thanks.

I have noticed the gun play is kind of clunky. What's with the Parkinson's sniper rifle? I have never used a weapon in a game that was so all over the place. Very hard to get on target, seems to defeat the purpose. Drove the Mako a bit before the restart. The jump feature is different and I thought it was OK to drive, I have heard some folks complain about it.

I have to say it would be nice if they gave you some kind of tutorial on the whole getting around with the ship. I picked a system, I picked a planet, nothing happened. I thought "maybe they are really working this and I have to wait a bit". But no that wasn't it. Until you happen to pick a planet you can land on you don't know you need to be looking for the land option. So that led to some frustration for a bit. But like I said I think I have the controls, the getting around in space and the hacking mini-game down now so I am ready to get into it full swing.
Not all classes can effectively use all weapons in ME1. IIRC only a soldier can use the sniper - any other class that tries won't be able to aim the thing.
Yeah I am playing Shepard as a soldier this time through seemed to be the most fitting way to go.
Its more just starting out the game. Your stats are low so the sniper aim is awful. Once you get to level 30 or so, you should have enough points to put into the sniper tree.

Just finished mass effect 3 over the weekend. Didn't end up getting any of the DLC, well except the free ending update, just played the regular game. Really enjoyed it. I like the mission selection, and your interaction with a lot of the old characters. I thought it was a good game to both tie up the prevous two games, while not just being a trip along memory lane, and being a pretty good standalone game.

Started up AC3 and i'm not quite as thrilled. Still love that it's AC and I can jump off a 3 story building and stick hidden blades into a pair of unsuspecting guards, but I really dislike the main character, and the polish on the game just doesn't seem to be in there as i thought it was on the ACII series. Stuff like having a close up conversation with an NPC but when they talk their mouth isn't moving. That's stuff you don't normally see in first tier games. Really didn't expect that out of ubisoft. Still enjoying the game, and I love having the tomahawk, but just not as good as the previous.

So I decided to go ahead and get Crysis on the last day of the sale, figured for 4.99 and great review I couldn't miss. I didn't have a lot of time so I thought instead of jumping back into ME I'd check out Crysis for a minute. It may be a while before I get back to ME. Crysis is really the shooter I was looking for I think. I loved getting dumped right into it with no big wind up. 5 minutes in and I am killing North Koreans. I will restart it when I get serious as I used the this first run through just to get a feel for it. But I got to say this is way more my speed when it comes to shooters.

What's a good racing game and is it better PC or Xbox? I haven't played since Road Rash, which I still have serious wood for.

Forza 4 can be had for pretty cheap - realistic simOr Forza Horizon - sorta arcad-ey

ETA- others can cement on the need4speed or dirt series as I really prefer simulations.

Since I haven't played Mass Effext 3 yet would you guys recommend me playing without the added ending to truly appreciate their f up or should I use it and be oblivious? I have had absolutely zero spoilers for it/the entire story in ME3 so far.

I was in the same place as you a couple weeks ago. I decided to install the "new" ending and just play. I don't have any complaints, so i'd go that way. I'd hate to put all that time in just to be frusterated at their first ending. I'm sure you can find the first one on Youtube if you really want to see the difference. Actually, that kinda makes me want to do the same just to see what all the fuss was about.

Just install the Extended Cut. I honestly believe if they just shipped with that, there would have been no controversy. Not that they're great. Just that they don't have nearly as many loopholes. Look up youtube vids to see how bad the original was. Not worth going through yourself when the game is really pretty good.

I have seen the side by side comparisons and IMO they are not really as big of a deal as they make it out to be. I would install the extended cut if for no other reason than it lowers the war asset requirement you need to achieve to unlock all of the ending scenarios. The original requirement was virtually unattainable without playing multiplayer or either of the apps.

In their defense, the multiplayer was incredibly fun - on PC at least.

Was actually my favorite part of ME3 lol, wasn't the biggest fan of the story.

So, we hope to see the Summer Sale tomorrow then? Not sure if there is anything I really want. If there is a 4X that goes for a good price, I might jump, but I seem to already own almost all of the usual suspects. Might have to get my son going on his library. :) Anyone have a wish list going for it?

It is worth noting, if I remember correctly, that if you want the absolute lowest price, wait until the last day of the sale. They generally put everything back on lowest sale for the last 1-2 days, and it is not unheard of to have a game be on sale for say 30% on Day 2, then be 75% off Day 5, for instance.

Will we know the exact end date of he sale in advance?

Generally yes.

Commiserate with me brothers....my launch model 60GB PS3 just got the Red Light Of Death. :kicksrock: :sadbanana:

This after I JUST bought and installed a new 750GB hard drive in it.

Fortunately, the disc that's stuck inside is the $3 used copy of GRAW:2 and not the Blu Ray of Gettysburg that I just watched the other day.

You can likely limp through to PS4 launch with a torx wrench, a heat gun and some Arctic silver. It's not that difficult if you've built your own computer or don't mind taking things apart but the fix is rarely permanent. You can buy some time though.

The sale itself usually runs two weeks. The way it works is typically everything is marked down somewhat and bundles are marked down considerably, in addition to this there are daily deals that are further reduced usually 33%-90% off and finally there are flash sales, these last 30-60 minutes and reduce the price of something already on sale further. Flash sales are nominated by Valve and while one sale is going on the community votes on which sale they would like to see next.

Typically on the last day of the sale everything gets reduced, not the best deals but gives everyone a shot to get something they missed.

Basic strategy, only buy daily deals or flash sales until the final day of the sale - there is a very good chance what you want will go on sale at some point.

T&P GB.

Yeah, that's what I was missing/ meaning. We should know in a few hours. They start sometime near noon.

That sucks. It's out of warranty obviously, and it seems silly to buy a new PS3 so close to the PS4 launch, but that means you're stuck without video game capabilities until November. You'll have to, like, spend time with your family or something. Good luck, GB.

You don't know what that means to me right now... :suds:

Well that would be the case...if I didn't also have an Xbox 360.

First world problems.

Whew. Crisis narrowly averted.

Bioshock Infinite for $29.99 is decent but I got it as a PC download on EBay along with Tomb Raider & Far Cry: Blood Dragon for $30.

Speaking of Tomb Raider, what a fun game. It throws you right into the action and is truly intense at times. The story is solid, though not really spectacular, but the overall gameplay is top notch. That Lara Croft is positively made of iron...when I am not getting her brutally killed.

I like TR much more than I am enjoying Bioshock: Infinite, which is fun but so far feels kinda sterile. Hopefully it gets better as it goes.

If you're like most people, you'll end up liking TR more than BI for sure. I know I did.

It will take a lot for BI to beat out TR in my mind. But with all the love that BI got from...pretty much everywhere I am surprised it got a 94 on Metacritic and TR "only" got an 86.

Skyrim legandary edition at 35.99 still too high for me maybe if it hits 60% off, or I'll wait until next year.

For the Communtiy deas to vote on, far cry 3 at $24 is bad considering Amazon has had it at $19 off and on for a while.

If Borderlands 2 goes on sale for $10, on that instantly.

I am positive you will see BL2 with the season pass for around $15, maybe $20. It was $20 at GMG just a day or two ago.
