Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Still debating Endless Space if it reappears on the last day or as a flash sale. Anyone play it? I've been looking for a good 4x space game for a while.

Found MoO 1 & 2 at GoG.com for $2.09

Will buy it later tonight just for a working copy.
You've played the Galactic Civilizations games, right?
Yes. I am actually trying to buy them as well since I no longer have a copy. For $5 you can't pass up. However I am at work and can't remember my log-in and steam only allows you to retrieve your password from your steam application, not from the website. I am at work... going to miss the sale.
Is there a sale you need gotten? I can get on in a bit and buy it for you if need be. Just heading out for a run now. How much longer on the sale?
Thanks for the offer. I stumbled my way through it and figured out my log in.

No problem. Gotta make sure to get the sales. :)

Anyone know anything about Final Fantasy IV? I can't tell if it's like WoW or more like a single person game.

I haven't played Final Fantasy in a LONG time so I have no idea what direction they're going in (and google isn't helping, I just keep seeing cinematics.

Damn it. I got it for $25 on Amazon a few weeks ago and literally just opened it this morning.

Speaking of which, what is the difference between Franchise and Season modes?

I've never played the series before at all, but used to like baseball games as a kid/teen a lot.

I played 7 innings of an exhibition this morning on Beginner level. I struck out 10 batters, had 15 hits, and was up 8-0 when I had to leave for work. Also, you don't field or run bases on beginner? How should I adjust my levels (if you can)? I couldn't figure out the predict pitch and location portion of batting, so I just was timing my hits.

Single player RPG. One of the better Final Fantasy games.

Also free is Defense Grid as part of the Free to Gold members program. I had no idea they gave away 2 free games each money on XBL.

So did anyone here every play the old turn-based wargame classics? Gary Grigsby's World at War? Carriers at War? etc.? I remember back in the day buying a CD that had a truckload of them on it, and it was just awesome wargaming goodness.

ETA How could I forget TOAW? The Operational Art of War, as well.

I struck out on Bastion. Knee-jerk bought it after some favorable feedback here but not my type of game at all. Wish you could gift a game on Steam if it showed you had less than 1 hour of play time.

Get off beginner. Forget what the levels are called but you should start around veteran IMO (think there are two above it). On veteran, you'll get some assistance running and fielding but not much. Any of it can be changed in the settings. Just gotta play around with it till you find what you like.

I bought Portal 2 last night, pretty fun so far.
Pretty fun? Just pretty fun?

It is a great puzzle game, lots of humor. One of the things I really loved, however, was the journey you took with the company from beginning to end via the sound bytes from Cave, etc. Sure, there is a lot of humor there, but there is some heart and tragedy as well.

Oh. Hi. So. How are you holding up? BECAUSE I'M A POTATO.

I only played the first few levels last night. :oldunsure:

Anyone play Devil May Cry? It got an 85 on Metacritic and the trailers look very cool.
I've been interested in this one as well
For $25? I have too much of a backlog to justify spending that much on any game that I'm not going to play right away (and thus will probably come down significantly in price by the time I do play).

Sleeping dogs is the only one in the current batch that interests me (that I don't already have) but it feels more like a console game to me. Some games I prefer PC to console - that one, Max Payne, GTA, etc.

Yea, I will mess around with it.

So in Franchise I have full minor league rosters but must play a full 162 game season? And Season mode its jut current 40 man roster without minor league guys? So it's just those 40 and who you draft?

Well I didn't mean buy it right now. I just meant the game looked interesting to me. With the way MS is giving away some of these older titles I have never tried, not to mention some of the sales, it's going to be a long time before I am out of stuff to play.

No idea, never do franchise/season. I just do a couple 'Road to the Show' guys. A pitcher and a hitter.

Also free is Defense Grid as part of the Free to Gold members program. I had no idea they gave away 2 free games each money on XBL.
Through Nov on the 1st and 16th of the month.
Actually through the end of the year according to their website...

Terms & Conditions: *“Games with Gold” free games offer available 6/10/13-12/31/13 for paid Gold members only.

Seems like a good deal for $5 (or less) a month. My son was already wanting Gold to play Minecraft with his friends. Is it also required for things like Madden roster updates? Or only for user-created rosters like NCAA with real names added?

I dont have any friends on Steam... Anyone want to be my steam friend? prhof14
Added you as a friend and invited you to the SteamFBG group.

If anyone else wants in to the FBG group, just let me know.
I'm not on there too much, but can i get an invite too? TimmyMZ.
Friend and group invite sent. You might want to set your profile from private to public so we can see you.

I am not exactly sure, but I'm a Gold member and get the needed updates whenever I play the specific games.

Yup, just curious if I should put it on my wishlist or not. No point in paying more than $5/game with the backlog I have. I am happy to wait for the winter sale to pick it up.

Mark of the ninja looks interesting. Any opinions? I see you've played it Slax. What can you say about it?
I DL'd it be haven't gotten around to playing it. I'll see if I can spend a few minutes on it tonight and give some feedback.
I just put in 45 minutes and I really like it. The combat techniques are a little difficult but I really like the style and overall gameplay. I think I will get my $3.74 out of it and then some.

There has been a lot of feedback like that. Apparently Steam is going to allow some sort of exchange policy like that in the future. No time frame on when.

Really fun game. Platformer that rewards on Stealth, but you can play it how you like. I'm just guilty of getting caught playing other games and not finishing it. I'll definitely go back to finish it, though.

Edit: Kotaku recommends to buy it on Amazon for $3.20 and get three indies for your trouble. So, yeah. Do that. Be sure to use the code "Gooncave" on Amazon. (A couple of those free indies look pretty decent.)

Played a few minutes of FTL - fun little game.
I haven't played it yet, but I bought it. Someone told me I'd really like this one and after watching playthrough, I thought I'd like it. Seems very Rogue-like, so that means that failing will be half the fun.

Alan Wake for $3, worth it?
It's ok. Some like it. Some don't. The gameplay gets repetitive and the story - which has a lot of inspiration from Stephen King - is supposed to be the driving force. For $3, I'd say try it. I paid more than that to rent it when it released.
