Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

Played a few minutes of FTL - fun little game.
I haven't played it yet, but I bought it. Someone told me I'd really like this one and after watching playthrough, I thought I'd like it. Seems very Rogue-like, so that means that failing will be half the fun.
Its a very fun game, especially if you enjoy rogue-likes. I recommend starting on easy and continuing on it until you've beaten the game a couple of times, normal is incredibly punishing - as it should be.

Seems similar in some ways to Galaxy Trucker, the board game no?

Mark of the ninja looks interesting. Any opinions? I see you've played it Slax. What can you say about it?
Really fun game. Platformer that rewards on Stealth, but you can play it how you like. I'm just guilty of getting caught playing other games and not finishing it. I'll definitely go back to finish it, though.

Edit: Kotaku recommends to buy it on Amazon for $3.20 and get three indies for your trouble. So, yeah. Do that. Be sure to use the code "Gooncave" on Amazon. (A couple of those free indies look pretty decent.)
Too late. Already pulled the trigger on Steam.

I guess it is the footballguys one then. Cool.

So universe sandbox is an incredible tool for astronomy geeks. Incredible depth that you can play around with. As far as a game goes, I haven't found it yet. Just a really cool simulation tool. For $2 it's not bad.

It used to be a free tool and then someone decided they should just charge money for it and now its $2 lol.

Assassin's Creed 2 free today for all XBL Gold members. fyi
Looks like I'll be adding to my game backlog
Added
Yeah I DL'd this last night. I have to say they really put out a lot of content pre-launch it seems. I went through the timeline movies they made. Those were really pretty cool. Very cinematic. They must have spent a small fortune on them. Definitely have me interested in playing it. Can't wait to see what they have next month.

Got this on Steam yesterday for $4.99 and played about an hour, the controls are going to take some time to get used to but overall it's really cool so far.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution back on Steam sale @ $2.99. It got a much deserved 90 on Metacritic and at that price it would be foolish not to buy it.

Such a good game.

I thought it was an A in theory, And C in execution, but can't go wrong at that price for sure.

I'm not as into their other games. Dragons age just doesn't do it for me. I also liked jade empire but again seemed like it was missing something.

If they create another expansive space saga count me in.
I'm tired of the need to talk to all your party members to find out their history in order to make them better. I also wish the games were a little more open sandbox and had more customization options in character development. I do like the combat systems.

I found it occasionally clunky, the AI was, at times, painfully easy to defeat and some of the voice acting was questionable but overall those were minor flaws for what is otherwise an excellent story with creative levelling systems and solid game play. I really enjoyed that there were multiple ways to clear a mission but they didn't baby step you through the process and I also liked that your actions do influence specific outcome options.

Obviously subjective, but I thought the story started promising but devolved into an unmitigated disaster by the time the last scene rolled around.

Interesting. The NCAA will no longer allow EA to use it's name/logo in games.

Does it really matter?
I feel somewhat responsible. You know, since this was the first and only year I actually bought an NCAA Football game. The only year I bought EA's NCAA Basketball game (2010) was also the last college hoops game too. I'm just bad luck.

Still wish 2K Sports would bring back college hoops. In fact, I'd love for them to sign a deal with the NCAA and bring us NCAA2K both in Football and Basketball form.

Does that mean that the individual universities can't be used either? Or just the NCAA name/logo specifically?
It appears it's just the NCAA name and logo. If EA chooses, they can continue with a college football franchise, since all teams and bowls are licensed through the Collegiate Licensing Company. They would just have to rename it to College Football 15, or something similar.

I don't have FTL, but just wanted to chime in and say that Galaxy Trucker rules. :hifive:

Id be ok with them making the mechanism more casual but talking to characters is optional. It adds or takes away from your story.

Sandbox to me is overrated. I think of games like gta4 and what a chore they become just to get anywhere in a fairly ordinary story.

New flash sales up, all pretty good.

Saints Row the third 75% off for $4.99
Rage 75% off for $4.99

I think Anno is still too expensive for 50% off, but if you're looking for a change of pace city builder go nuts. Fez is $4.99 again, still hate Phil Fish, still won't be buying it.

I hate when people vote for something that's been on sale for 2 full days already. Vote for something that hasn't been on sale, people.

Commiserate with me brothers....my launch model 60GB PS3 just got the Red Light Of Death. :kicksrock: :sadbanana:

This after I JUST bought and installed a new 750GB hard drive in it.

Fortunately, the disc that's stuck inside is the $3 used copy of GRAW:2 and not the Blu Ray of Gettysburg that I just watched the other day.
Sweet! Gamestop has a bump in trade in value for the next two weeks.

They're going to give me $128 for my 7 year old, bricked PS3. :pickle:
Well, apparently the girl looked at the wrong column and I "only" got $72 for my bricked PS3. Still, for a machine that's not working I could do worse.

The new system I got came with a 1 year subscription to PS+ or whatever it's called. That'll more than pay for the difference in cost I paid for the new unit.

I already have BF3, Saints Row 3, Uncharted 3, Xcom, and a couple other games downloading as we speak. Pretty cool. And I'm amazed how much smaller the new units are - this one is about 1/3 the weight of my old one. Must have been all that backwards compatible hardware they packed into the old one.

Gotta throw in my recommendation for The Binding of Isaac. I see it's on sale right now for $1.24. That's what I bought it at, and it's a steal at that price. It's a Rogue-like that plays like a twin-stick shooter. The environments take a lot from The Legend of Zelda dungeons, but that's where the similarities to LoZ end. I've put in more hours into this game since Christmas than Borderlands 2 and a full playthrough of GTA IV. I can't promise it'll be for everyone, but less than the cost of a 20oz Coke, what do you have to lose?

Hey guys. Its been a while. How ya doing? Okay, trying to catch up here from the last 200 pages. What should I be playing now? I've still hooked on the Civ5. It should be called Crack5. And I occasionally will play some Bad Company. BF3 completely kicks my butt and I'm such a noob on that game. BFBC I can at least hold my own on. For work days, its Battle Pirates from Kixeye. Its a decent flash game that takes up my large amounts of free time.

You should be playing what you enjoy playing. Although, if you haven't noticed, Steam is in the middle of its Summer Sale, so you might find something else that you don't have. I'm still holding out for Rogue Legacy to show up.

Just purchasesd after reading some reviews. I bought FTL a few months and absolutely love it. Why not try a roguelike RPG?

On a similar note, this Steam sale is making me spend more than I thought I would. And I'm still holding out hope for The Longest Journey and Morrowind flash sales.

I still fire up Civ 3 from time to time.

I tried Civ 4 once but didn't like it. Probably because it was such a radical change for me. Maybe I ought to give Civ 5 a shot.

CIV5 is definitely simpler (some will say dumbed down) from CIV IV. CIV IV introduced some great concepts though.

I still say the off-shoot Call To Power II was one of the best variants of the game ever, especially when you downloaded the "fix" user mods.

Civ 5 has added more stuff back in with the 2 expansions. Basically the EA Sports model - take stuff out so it seems like you're giving them something when you put it back in.

Yeah - I'm hoping to see a $15.00 Steam Sale item on the recent one.

Just got back from a short camping trip. I see Magicka is up - get it for $2.49 if you don't have it. Heck, buy the 4 pack for less than $8 and get your friends in on it. I played with my son the other day and we had a blast.

Done. I've seen my nephew playing it and it looks insane. Can't beat $1.24.
