Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (6 Viewers)

OK, I am not too proud to say I have no idea what you are talking about when you saying Rogue-like. What do you mean?

Yes - but turn based movement is not a key factor. It's more permanent death and random levels and equipment/upgrade availability. Think of FTL - you don't really know what you're going to get in a new system, what will be dropped, what's available to be bought at any given store and when you die, the game is over. That's rogue-like.

Anybody want Orcs Must Die 2 Complete Pack? I think my brother gave it to me even though I already have it so I'm going to re-gift it.

Commiserate with me brothers....my launch model 60GB PS3 just got the Red Light Of Death. :kicksrock: :sadbanana:

This after I JUST bought and installed a new 750GB hard drive in it.

Fortunately, the disc that's stuck inside is the $3 used copy of GRAW:2 and not the Blu Ray of Gettysburg that I just watched the other day.
Sweet! Gamestop has a bump in trade in value for the next two weeks. They're going to give me $128 for my 7 year old, bricked PS3. :pickle:
Well, apparently the girl looked at the wrong column and I "only" got $72 for my bricked PS3. Still, for a machine that's not working I could do worse. The new system I got came with a 1 year subscription to PS+ or whatever it's called. That'll more than pay for the difference in cost I paid for the new unit.

I already have BF3, Saints Row 3, Uncharted 3, Xcom, and a couple other games downloading as we speak. Pretty cool. And I'm amazed how much smaller the new units are - this one is about 1/3 the weight of my old one. Must have been all that backwards compatible hardware they packed into the old one.
came to check on this.... my son got 70 something as well

Just picked up CounterStrike again. Hopefully, someone still plays it. Anyone try Galactic Civ II? I've wanted to give it a try for a while now but if its stupid, then why waste my time right?

Anybody know anything about Forge?

They allude that it's like Team Fortress - a fantasy based Team Fortress could be a good time.

Baldur's Gate and the first two fallout games are on steam for less than $10. Definitely worth playing for the story driven RPG crowd. When I was looking for these 4-5 years ago it was tough to find versions that would run on modern PCs.

Dang, even on easy FTL is hard. I barely unlocked the other design. Any tips? I fly straight through the first zone, but somewhere along the way, I end up getting my ### handed to me either by running out of rockets and not being able to take down their shields, or they transport like 4 bad guys onto my ship and pVVn me, even as I try to send them out the airlock.

Is each sector like a level? Should I try to clear a zone before continuing to get better gear? I figured I needed to bee-line it out of each one, and I just cannot get enough scrap that way to stay repaired/upgraded/reloaded.

When I get boarded, it's all over. The only way I know of winning that is to try to open the doors on them.

In general you want to make as many jumps as possible per level. Easy is a misnomer.

I have not even looked, but do you get new jump fuel each sector? I assumed that was it for the whole game.

Are sectors progressively harder?

Don't fly through the first couple of zones. You need every encounter early to get loot and develop your guys' skills. You want to stay left on the map just ahead of the swarm as long as possible hitting every system you can.

Tips: Make sure you have people at critical stations - pilot, shields, weapons, engine in that order.

When you are boarded, send everybody that will fit in the room. Don't go 1:1 unless you have rock dudes or mantis. Even then, gang up if you can. If you can only have 2 dudes in a room have your other guys just outside and swap them out when the first groups' health gets low. Run away and heal when you have to.

When fighting other ships, target shields first and get them out of commission and then focus on taking out weapons. You can sometimes do both at the same time with the right armament. Make sure your weapons are synced to fire at the same time. You don't want to fire something and then have a shield re-charge before the next weapon fires.

I think the looting and getting stuff is where I am not optimal. I always man in that order and try to gang fight. I always send weapons to shields first, then weapon systems. I will work on that. Thanks.

Also, actively manage your power. Cut your life support or first aid to get a little firepower during a battle and turn them back on when you need them.

Also, don't waste your missiles if you equip them. Use it to take out shields and then keep them from firing any more and just use your beams. Don't use them at all if your beams can take the ship down without their help or without you taking damage. Same goes for bombs

If you are boarded by a boarding drone, you are better off trying to target their drone systems then trying to fight it. Those things are mean.

No, you loot fuel, buy it at a store, or through some of the random encounters. Yes, they get progressively harder.

Boarding really should not be the game breaker it is. If you get boarded anytime in the first few sectors by more than 1, maybe 2, you are screwed. No recovery there. I tried fighting it out the first few times, now I will just quit and start over. Dumb.

I've never had that many problems with boarding. Like the other stuff you need to actively manage it and duck your guys out of the room to go heal before they die. The only issue really comes up with the boarding drones and when your first aid station gets knocked out.

Try getting boarded by 2 Mantis. They ran around roughshod on my ship. The ran out of airlocked rooms, ganged up on my guys and it was dumb. This was the 2nd system in the 2nd sector. I have been boarded by 4 before. 1 person is bad enough when they run away from your guys, or follow the ones injured to the med station, beat him to death then beat down the med station.

Skyrim Legendary edition is the showcase sale today, it comes with all of the expansions to date, 40% off at $35.99 its an above average bundle.

If you already own Skyrim, the expansions themselves are 50% off, picked up dragonborn for $9.99.

Beginning to think Rogue Legacy isn't going to drop below $11.99 during the sale. I'm starting to lose patience. And I know as soon as I snatch it up, it'll finally be lower.

If you like mindless metroid-vania roguelike action its worth the $11.99.

I played it off an on for a week and unofficially done, NG++++.

I know it's worth it. I'm just holding out to see if it goes on a highlighted sale. If it doesn't, I'm still grabbing it.

Been hoping Far Cry 3 would drop in price below $24 but I don't think it's going to happen. It's weird but I think Steam may be doing too good of a job with the deals, after monitoring the summer sale I am suddenly not willing to spend more than $10 per game, and frankly buying anything over $5 is starting to feel like a stretch.

The thing about that price on Far Cry 3 is that it was around $15 on another site a week or two ago.

Damn it. I got it for $25 on Amazon a few weeks ago and literally just opened it this morning.

Speaking of which, what is the difference between Franchise and Season modes?

I've never played the series before at all, but used to like baseball games as a kid/teen a lot.

I played 7 innings of an exhibition this morning on Beginner level. I struck out 10 batters, had 15 hits, and was up 8-0 when I had to leave for work. Also, you don't field or run bases on beginner? How should I adjust my levels (if you can)? I couldn't figure out the predict pitch and location portion of batting, so I just was timing my hits.
Get off beginner. Forget what the levels are called but you should start around veteran IMO (think there are two above it). On veteran, you'll get some assistance running and fielding but not much. Any of it can be changed in the settings. Just gotta play around with it till you find what you like.
Yea, I will mess around with it.

So in Franchise I have full minor league rosters but must play a full 162 game season? And Season mode its jut current 40 man roster without minor league guys? So it's just those 40 and who you draft?
Sent you a PM Leeroy.

Let me know how it goes.

What's FTL?
Faster Than Light
It's hard to explain. Basically, you captain a starship. You outfit it, get and train crew, and then have to work your way across the galaxy in jumps. Each jump might have an encounter where you fight another shop, etc. The challenge is to survive. At the end there is a multi stage boss fight with a mother ship to save the Federation.

After 400 wonderful hours playing Path of Exile on the PC, I am ready to jump back into the PS3 again.

I left off just having finished Mass Effect. I did not get anywhere near 100% trophies on it as I only had one play through but I think I might move on to Mass Effect 2 next.

It was announced today that EA Sports will continue with their college football franchise without the NCAA license. They extended their license with the CLC for another 3 years. With the CLC deal, they will still be able to use all teams, conferences and bowls. The NCAA license sounds like it was pretty worthless on its own, so there probably won't be a dip in sales.

What exactly does that mean as far as that game goes? Fake names and teams basically?
Legit teams, but you can't use real names in a college football game anyway. So that part won't be any different. It'll just be numbers associated with the positions and randomly generated names (unless you go the extra mile to give all players real names yourself).

So basically the cover is changing. That's it. What did they pay the NCAA for?

I bought Borderlands 2 the other day during the Summer sale. Is anyone interested in starting fresh and co-oping the game together?

Hit me up - prhof14 on steam

I think they get to keep the teams but not the player names.
They never had the player names.
Shows how long its been since I've played an NCAA game, Sega Saturn I never missed you :bag: . Thought for sure by now they had made some sort of agreement, but I suppose that would require them to actually pay the players.

That's a good question. It sounds like the NCAA license is overrated.
