Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

All development towards Fez 2 has been ceased - the game has been cancelled.

I would just like to reiterate, I ####### hate Phil Fish and I'm glad that hes getting out of the industry, never played Fez for all I know it could be a great game but he is one of the most insufferable disrespectful developers ever and I'm joyed by his recent troubles.

Im sad for Fez fans, as they are missing out on a sequel to a game they like because the developer doesn't feel appreciated enough.
wat. Fez fans couldn't be Fez fans if it wasn't for Phil Fish. No one should feel sorry for anyone because some dude doesn't want to make a game.
What are you confused about, he is ceasing development because he doesn't feel like the industry or the fans appreciate him enough. Some people were anticipating Fez 2 and those loyal fans will not get to ever play it. Up until he threw his most recent fit, the game was in development, he is in essence, taking his toys and going home because hes a big ####### baby.

I feel bad for any fan base that has to suffer through horrible devs, and as far as those go Phil is one of the worst. Talks so much #### on other indie devs, especially ones that are successful, talks so much #### on his on fans and other fan bases, hes a disgrace and im glad he wont be making any money off the people that previously supported him and he shat on.
He could be the biggest ######## of all time for all I know, I'm not on twitter so I know next to nothing about his existence, but I'm confused as to why you would feel sorry for a fanbase that wouldn't even exist if not for this dude. Why should he make another game if he doesn't want to just to make other people happy? His reasons for not wanting to make another game are irrelevant given he's the one who's facing all the potential costs that go with making another one.

I think it'd be selfish of the fanbase to be pissed at the guy for not wanting to make another game.
Because they are the people that actually care about the game and the license, Phil doesn't owe anyone anything, but if he did the first people in that line would be the people that actually supported his previous game. He announced the sequel at E3, not too long ago but it was still anticipated. The reason the game isn't being made, aside from the previously mentioned reasons is because he hates the industry. He has some valid views in regards to the trials indie developers have to deal with it, but at the end of the day he is killing his own license and his own fanbase because he wants out. He could sell the license, he could just hire someone to do his job, but hes doing neither of those things. He is literally becoming the thing he #####es about all the time.
Meh, Fez is his baby so to speak, if he doesn't want other people creating games in the universe he created for whatever reason, I don't see the issue, it's his piece of intellectual property to do with what he wants  . I don't see why he should sell it just to make other people happy.

So after finishing The Last of Us (amazing game). I had 4 games staring me in the face to start:

Dark Souls

Far Cry 3

Dishonored

Red Dead Redemption

I was going to play them in that order........then my son (8 years old) asked me if we had any western movies he can watch with me. He has been on a Back to the Future kick the past few weeks as he loves that trilogy (which I got him into last month) and he loved the 3rd one....yeah the western.

So I said...ok let's see if he can sit and watch some Clint Eastwood (Sergio Leone trilogy) stuff.....he ate it all up. So I pulled out Red Dead Redemption.

I can't believe I have slept on this title all this time. I picked it up this past christmas on Amazon for 14.99 (gold box deals) and had not gotten around to it.

Wow. AMAZING AWESOMENESS.

Yeah Red Dead is pretty good.

Probably my favorite game this gen except maybe COD4.

You can't go wrong with any of those four.

I haven't been on the board much lately and missed last week's news about DPRugby. Very sad to hear this. Like everyone said, I remember him being very gracious with all of his info and just a classy guy in general. I was just thinking about last week as to why we hadn't heard from him in a while. My thoughts go out to his family.

Humble bundle with Dead Island and Saints Row 2/3 + DLC.
PSA - Dead Island was once of the biggest disappointments ever. It turned out to be a homebrew quality FPS where you spend 70% of your time searching luggage, lockers, bags, random box and a million other places. FUN!

What is Bioshock? Or maybe Fallout 3? Or is it Skyrim?

It's so funny how a good story, great atmosphere and better gameplay mechanics can change how one looks at a game.

That's why a game is not just its best features. Good graphics and mechanics mean crap if the gameplay and story are awful.

Saints Row The Third - Only played about an hour and I really like the style and humor. So the designers just decided to eliminate the whole hunting-for-weapons-and-ammo thing and pretty much make you invincible from the get go so you can shoot as many people as you want as fast as you can? Is it going to be like that for the whole game or will there actually be some real challenges along the way?

Picked up the Humble Bundle, and then the Humble Weekly Sale. :bag:

$8.50 spent for a crapload of games. My Steam account overfloweth.

Put some hours into Endless Space. Pretty run of the mill civ type space empire game. It's okay but everything just kind of misses the mark from planet building and development to the heroes to the battles. The battles are pretty much like the Borg battles in Star Trek. You come in, kick their ###, they quickly re-design all their ships (because it takes not time to retrofit, just coin) and they kick your ###. You then quickly retrofit to a different strategy, rinse and repeat.

Also, maybe it was the faction I was playing but all the other factions were way too passive. I had to go and pick a fight 60% of the way into the game, just to spice things up.

If you like the genre, it's probably worth $5 for what seems to be the most recent flavor in the Master of Orion, Galactic Civilization type games but falls far short of being great.

So Dainty and I are addicted to minecraft again and graduated into the shaft mining instead cave mining. Moobin you probably blame us for getting you back into it and we blame you because we were phased out of it and then we got together with you and played and had a blast. Seven world's later and we are learning how to make red stone doors, massive mine carts, shaft mines, and lava houses. :tebow:

Now that I've moved on from TLoU, I'm going back to a couple of games I downloaded from PS+ but didn't get around to playing initially. First up was Saints Row 3. I've never played anything in this franchise before and I came in with only moderate expectations, but it was actually a really fun change of pace. It's refreshing every once in a while to play a game that doesn't take itself at all seriously and just delivers a series of WTF?? moments. My only complaint is that after I finished the main story, I just couldn't bring myself to go back and complete the side missions. The completionist in me looks at the map and feels guilty about not doing the dozen or so events that are still sitting there, but some of them are just so tedious. So that's that.

Yesterday I started Deus Ex: Human Revolution. So far so good. It seems a lot like Dishonored (I know this predates Dishonored, but I'm playing these out of chronological order). The little hacking minigame is giving me fits though. It took me 10+ tries to get past my first level 2 lock. I think part of my problem is that at first I didn't realize you could hack multiple nodes simultaneously -- I was always waiting for one to finish before doing anything to any other nodes. Still though this seems really tough for something that plays such a large role in the game. Any suggestions?

Thanks to TxBuckeye for swapping games. :)

Looking forward to The Last of Us once I figure out this damn PSN Error 80710723

It's been awhile since I've played, but there are a couple basic hacking abilities on the skills tree that help. Also those one time use hacking items (nuke virus or something like that) really come in handy for some of the more frustrating ones.

Props to Gamestop. When I traded in my PS3 a couple weeks back they had a 50% bump in trade in value. This week they have a 100% bump.

I asked the manager if he could do anything about it and he said he'd give me the extra $35 towards a game purchase. So, I got Last of Us for just an extra $20 last night.

He didn't have to do that, so I thought it was great. Sprint would have made me pay more because I picked the wrong time to use a promotion.

I'm going to have to see if I can trade on a few broken xboxes I'm too lazy to fix myself.

I've put about an hour into the Last of Us. The intro sure grabs you and gets you going....and I stopped last night after I picked up the "smuggler".

Wonder what kind of replayability this will have?

The GameStop around here only takes working xboxs with a functioning first party controller.

Steam had a Fallout day so I picked up both F3 and New Vegas. I never finished the main story in F3 and its been so many years that it feels new playing it again. Trying to focus on quests and areas I didn't do before (and being less of a goodie goodie but its hard not to be) and had a lot of fun going thru the alien mother ship add-on content last night.

I love the Fallout games. finished F3 (even though it was pretty buggy), and halfway through FNV (got sidetracked by a couple other games).

serious question... who the hell ever plays these games and decides "yeah, I'm gonna be a bada## unarmed or melee figher"? so you see a Super Mutant with a tri-laser gun 100 yards away, and what...you're supposed to just run up and punch him in the face? you've got 2 choices in these games, small guns or big guns. and even if you choose big guns, you better have a good sidekick.

I never use a sidekick in any of these games. I just build my standard "sniper rifle" guy -- a third of the way into the game he's a demigod who kills at will. It's pretty much exactly like the sneaky archer build that everybody uses in Elder Scrolls games to OHK everything with sneak attacks.

yep, stealth sniper is my MO too. in one of the DLC for Fallout 3, you can get one of my favorite weapons ever. it's called the "Infiltrator": an assault rifle that fires in 3 round bursts with a scope and a silencer. auto head exploder.

Well, I tried The Last of Us. Hated it.

The story seemed great. But I just can't do those types of controls. That "the character turns like he has a stiff neck" thing. First and third person games have been fluid in control now for years. Why does this one feel like a PS2 game in terms of how your character moves?

Is it just me?

This is generally what I do as well but eventually my character gets so powerful I don't even need to be stealthy anymore. I have all the add-on's and apparently they made Dogmeat close to invincible if you install 1 of them. Has made it really easy to breeze thru the missions although the OCD in me makes me still search every nook and crany for loot which slows things down. (This time I am cheating with online guides for the subways though, still a pain navigating those.)There was a sniper companion in New Vegas that made combat a joke as well. He'd snipe half the enemies before they ever got close enough to do damage.

And I also agree that unarmed or melee weapons are pointless unless you just want a diversion for fun. (You could say that about a lot of the weapons to be honest.) I have a couple of unique power fists and have never bothered to use them. I just roll with a mix of Chinese assault rifle, plasma rifle or shotgun until I obtain an uber unique weapon.

Is there any way to do party chat through ps3 like you can Xbox? My buddy and I are trying to play far cry 3 but apparently that game doesn't support in game chat. This is a rather frustrating experience.

Popped LA Noire back in the other day. I bought it on release originally, made it half way, and the let it sit for years. After an hour today, I remembered why I was so disappointed in this game. It's just plain boring and the interrogation portions are pure guess work. It's too bad because I love the setting and the idea of the game really intrigues me, it's just really poor execution.

Traded it in - got $35. I was fine w/ it.

Picked up Tomb Raider in the Summer Sale and played a few hours tonight. Good stuff. I have never really played TR, so it is a fun change of pace.

Nope. For whatever reason (I've read rumors that it was a patent issue), party chat never made it to the PS3. Allegedly it will be there for next gen.

Same here. That game sounded great in theory, but just kind of sucked in execution.

So how long is the storyline for Tomb Raider? I put in a few hours last night and made it a fair ways in the story I think. I am not one to go crazy with completion %. I have too many games to spend hours looking for totems or burning flags. Interesting story. I am guessing this is just a reboot, as this is the origin.

If you don't spend a lot of time looking around, it is kind of a short game. I would guess maybe 10-12 hours?

It's not hard to complete Tomb Raider to 100% completion. The reason I didn't pick it up during the Steam summer sale was because I already did 100% it during a 5 day rental. The only reason I'd buy it is replay it again.

Yeah, i never really got the facial expression thing in the interrogations. I just went with, if you had proof one way or the other either truth or lie, and if not, hiding something. Pretty much worked every time.

Also I hated the fact that this was supposed to be an investigation and there were these giant seemingly obvious holes in the investigation that were just ignored.

Finished the game, but largely it just aggravated me.

Need to figure out if I want to:

1. Play through Skyrim a 2nd time

2. Finish Arkham City (16% complete)

or

3. Start Uncharted Trilogy

how long did it take you to finish Skyrim? I've always thought about picking that up, but scared it might take me 300 hours to finish...I'm OCD enough to try and do all the sidequests.

I think to 100% if you never stray is like 40 hours but realistically like 80. Games a lot more fun if you role play so that adds some game time.

Really loved the Uncharted series. 2 is the best.
Arkham City, IMHO. It's a quick game if you aren't concerned about 100% completion of everything, and I found the game to be incredible.
I loved Arkham City. When I was reading his post, I was thinking he meant finishing it to 100% completion, which I never did (maybe I should have). All the Riddler's quests started getting tedious for me.

I haven't seen anyone talk about this game yet but I just 100% The Testement of Sherlock Holmes. It plays like a 90s adventure game with lots of puzzles that at times can be really tough. they feature matching, math, word play, and many other varieties. I enjoyed the game as a nice change of pace that lasts 7-15 hours depending on if you do the puzzles. To be fair The Walking Dead was my favorite game last year so I do enjoy this genre very much but they had a solid enough storyline that it kept me going and Sherlock's persona was very much like the novels with a darker side then I expected. Back to the puzzles. They did a great job on them and they varied in difficulty depending on the item in question. If you spent enough time with them they have you a skip button, right trigger, that you could activate. I did this on accident twice and had to dashboard back to a older save due to the completion award doesn't allow using it. My main issue with the game would be I got stuck in doorways 5-6 times to the point I had to frolic around with the camera and player character to try and unstick myself with the door frame. Overall you can tell its not a AAA game with its polish but it doesn't cost as much and it has the X factor of bringing a nice mystic to the table that most big budget games take away. I would give it a 6.5/10. Don't be scared by my rating of it, I am very tough on ratings. Most "great" games only get a 6-8 from me.
