Totally agree.Playing Madden 25. Enjoying it a lot so far.
The Good:
Gameplay / engine has really been cleaned up. Very smooth, good animations, no more silly tripping over each other. I play on slow speed, and in most cases, it looks like real football. Best gameplay of the series (or of any videogame football, and I say this as a 2k fan).
No more Bill Russell-like LB's.
Running game is really fun.
Franchise mode has been given a nice upgrade. Play as a player, a coach, or an owner (and coach too). Playing offline franchise feels much more "alive" than before - better trade mechanics, more off-the-field "stuff" - it feels like there are 31 other teams out there. Fantasy draft is back for those who want Andrew Luck on their team.
Menus are a bit easier to navigate than before - everything is much clearer as to what it does, etc.
The bad
Load times are still poor
Kicking angles / camera are still poor
You can't sim a season - you have to sim week by week. So if you want to play franchise, and blow your team up Indy-style just to get to the draft and get your future QB, you have to do it a week at a time. Or, just create that guy, put him on the roster, and start the season with him now (that's what I did with the Jets - the qb of the future is here now).
Presentation extras are still poor (no sportscenter-type glitz).
"Pre-order" teases. Wanna play coach as John Madden? Hope you preordered from Gamestop. Wanna play as Tom Flores? Hope you preordered from Target. I may have the stores wrong, but the fact is, no matter where you preordered, there's "locked" content staring you in the face. And if you didn't preorder, you obviously can't do either.**
**Right now, game pricing and delivery is in a weird place. I don't know how I feel about a $59.99 game having content that used to be included ("legends", etc) now as preorder or paid DLC. But this is the game industry in general and not just Madden / EA, and is really for another discussion.
Bottom Line
If you can get over the fact that this doesn't have a good halftime show/etc, and just want a good football game, Madden 25 will definitely deliver. If this exact same game had "2k" on the cover, it would be universally accepted. I loved 2k5, and APF2k8 (still play 2k8 a lot), but this is simply a better game of football (and has been for awhile).
This is strong medicine.Madden 25 is a joy. The best football game I have ever played and I have played them all. yeah even better than 2K5 on the field.
Great way to end this gen which was a huge let down for football gaming for the most part.
The board is square button / melee attack.Ok, I need a bit of help. Probably a dumb question, but I'm struggling with the controls for The Last of Us. I've gone though some of the introductory stuff and gotten a board to whack people, as well as played around and made a couple shivs. I can't figure out how to switch out the board for the shiv. I know you can modify the board to accept a shiv on the end, but can't figure out how to do that. I also can't figure out how to set up a bottle/brick as the second weapon so I can pull it out quick.
I generally suck at games, so figuring this crap out tends to be normal for me. Any remediative education would be appreciated.

The shiv is triange button.
to modify the board, hit select, and L1 / R1 over to the "building screen" where you make health kits, shivs, etc. About 35% of the way in to the game it will allow you to modify your melee gear with nails.
press down on your D pad to quickly access the bottle/brick. i never used this as a secondary weapon, more so to get clickers or runners into the position i wanted them to for a stealth attack or bomb attack.
I saw the save draft class function so I'm guessing importing NCAA draft classes is back in the game?Totally agree.Playing Madden 25. Enjoying it a lot so far.

I despised Madden 13.....pure garbage.

I played Two Worlds 2 and liked it but I ranked it just a bit below the other games I listed. I am PS3 owner so I don't think Divinity 2 is available to me.It's basically Dragon Age or KoA without the personality.Any recommendations or cautions for Dragons Dogma? I loved Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dark Souls, and Demon Souls if that helps at all.
You get party members (called minions, I believe), but they are prettymuch interchangeable (in fact, you swap all but one out constantly) - but none have any story or personality.
Two Worlds 2 and Divinity 2 were both better games if you like that type of RPG.
I am NOT seeing it. Granted I only played 13 a couple dozen times (just got my PS3 in June), but I'm not seeing a huge difference.I despised Madden 13.....pure garbage.

Yea, all the games you listed were better than Two Worlds 2 (well, maybe not KoA). Excellent game. That was $7 well spent.Went and bought Far Cry 3 today for $7 using my Gamestop Reward points and my Gamestop birthday gift of 20% off a used game purchase.
Heard the single player campaign is good with this one. I enjoyed Far Cry 1 on the PC back in the day. Anyone completed/played the single player campaign? Thoughts?
I recently played it. It is a very solid, if a little creepy and formulaic, open world action game. I'd enthusiastically recommend it at its current price point.Went and bought Far Cry 3 today for $7 using my Gamestop Reward points and my Gamestop birthday gift of 20% off a used game purchase.

I pre-ordered also. And agree - probably my last PS3 game.I was going to pass on GTA5, but with about two months left to go before the new consoles launched, I decided to go ahead and spring for this one. Probably my last PS3 game.
have you ever played Dragon Age: Origins? it's a couple years older, but I really liked that one and it's similar to the other games you mentioned. you can probably get a GOTY version pretty cheap somewhere.I played Two Worlds 2 and liked it but I ranked it just a bit below the other games I listed. Battlefield 4, Rome 2:Total WarI need help with a gift for a gamer friend of mine. What are some of the more anticipated PC releases (either recently released or something I can pre-order) that you guys are really looking forward to playing?
Thanks for the help.

I tried to gauge the interest level of the FFA in LoL last year, it's low.Anybody played League of Legends online game? Tons of posters all over work about a work tournament in a few weeks.

I'm in on release day too, but my expectations are definitely in check. Rockstar's games almost always feature too much driving-around-for-sake-of-driving-around (no fast travel), broken checkpointing, and wonky shooting mechanics. If GTA 5 fixes those issues I'll be ecstatic, but I'm not banking on it.I'm sure most in here at stoked about GTA V's release in 6 days.
Yea, I'm getting it on the release date even though I was disappointed by GTA IV.
But one thing does give me pause: the map is supposed to be bigger than Vice City, San Andreas, and IV's Liberty City combined.
If there was one thing that I didn't care for in San Andreas, it was how huge the map was. It seems like Vice City's map was perfect - a big enough sandbox to explore without getting ridiculous.
THAT SAID, you're supposed to play three different characters too, so maybe they each "govern" a region or something.

Yeah, but I've heard stuff like "the shooting mechanics are, like, totally fixed now" before. Namely prior to every release after GTA 3. And they always end up with the same old-fashioned lock-on mechanic. Obviously that doesn't ruin the game or I wouldn't have preordered, but Rockstar does have a long history of carrying the same gameplay flaws over from game to game and franchise to franchise.Shooting mechanics are reported to be more like Max Payne 3 than GTA IV.I'm in on release day too, but my expectations are definitely in check. Better than GTA 3, but they still featured an excessive reliance on lock-on. I suppose, but most of those 3rd person games are more shooters, where GTA (and RDR) are more... well... diverse. You do shoot, but I wouldn't call these Rockstar games shooters by any stretch. Isn't the camera a little further out in GTA games than Gears or Splinter Cell or other 3rd person games? Not sure if the over the shoulder works well w/ that (I'm going by memory that it seems to be pulled out further, but I could be wrong.)Better than GTA 3, but they still featured an excessive reliance on lock-on. I used to rationalize it that way too. Then I played Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row, both which have butter-smooth over-the-shoulder shooting. GTA games always have a lot going for them, but those two games really highlight some of the glaring flaws that people tend to overlook when evaluating Rockstar games.I suppose, but most of those 3rd person games are more shooters, where GTA (and RDR) are more... well... diverse. I'm not a huge gamer, by any means, but I do love to play certain ones. I was a huge fan of Saints Row 3 and Red Dead Redemption.
