Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Big time Halloween Steam sale going on a whole bunch of titles through Nov 1st.

Anyone ever play Sleeping Dogs? It's open world mayhem that looks cool (81 on metacritic) and is only $4.99 but I am not sure about it. Thoughts?

Sleeping Dogs is the sequel to True Crime. Supposedly very good. True Crime was once considered a more true to life version of Grand Theft Auto. Sleeping Dogs takes place in Hong Kong (original name was True Crime: Hong Kong)

I liked it. It comes across as a GTA clone at first, but it actually features a pretty good melee system that you'll be using all the time. Good game. Not GOTY material but worth more than $4.99.

Has anyone considered getting WWE 2k14? I haven't purchased a wrestling game in years, but the Wrestlemania mode allowing you to relive all of the classic WM matches sounds awesome.

I was thinking about maybe DLing it. Even looked at a gameplay vid to get an idea of what it's like. Wasn't impressed enough to grab it (not a wrestling fan though). Too many other big games to play coming out right now.

The Witcher 2 just keeps getting better the longer I play. It morphed from what I thought to be little more than a button mashing combat system into something that really requires you to work your fights as strategically as possible. Using weapons, blocking (riposte), bombs, traps, dodging and signs are all important aspects for winning battles.

And the story is remarkably well done with a level of detail in the writing and dialogue that I have only seen in the Mass Effect series.

And there are lots of boozing, swearing and boobs too, which is nice if for no other reason than it doesn't insult you with the PG-13 version of the same.

I finished Saints Row III the other day. I had a good time with it. I like the weapon progression it offers from assault rifles to tanks and hovercraft better than the GTA progression from pistols to assault rifles. If that sounds goofy, it is. SR is about over the top tongue in cheek mayhem but it's all good fun.

This weekend during Extra Life I started Batman Origins. It seems like they have taken everything from the last two and morphed it into a wonderful successor. I have had a ton of fun so far.

I finished Far Cry 3, which is a good shooter\stealth game. It could be a little frusterating at times, but enjoyable overall.

Played some more XCom: Enemy Unknown and had an entire squad wiped out while assulting a battleship. Hard game.

Watched some people play Battlefield 4, and it looked great in MP. I will wait until I get my PS4 to buy it, but I see myself playing it a bunch.

Anyone else get a settlement check from EA regarding the anti-trust lawsuit? A check for $24 just showed up in my mailbox. I don't remember ever filing a claim, but whatever, free money

Picked up the platinum trophy for Diablo 3 today. Arguably the easiest platinum I ever got. Took roughly 150 hours, much of which was just grinding out the 5 million in gold trophy.

I think this was from some class action that was filed a few years ago regarding their exclusive NFL license.

Bingo. Although it wasn't limited to just the NFL license. I believe NCAA football was involved as well. I've never bought a copy of madden and I got a check.

Some guys over on OS are claiming they got over $200

Amazing Humble Bundle this week, Warner Brothers:

Features:
Batman Arkham Asylum
F.E.A.R. 2
F.E.A.R. 3
Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Beat the Average games (currently $4.50):
Batman Arkham City
Scribblenauts Unlimited

Didn't have a legit copy of Scribblenauts yet, or Arkham City/Asylum and I've been told War in the North is actually really fun. Both FEAR games are pretty meh though unless you like suspense shooters.

Yeah, that is about as good of a deal as I have ever seen, the closest being the EA one a few weeks ago. I have LOTR and the Batmans, and enjoyed FEAR but frankly, they would sit. Otherwise amazing deal.

My check hasn't shown up yet.

:kicksrock:

Walmart on Black Friday will have a PS3 bundle that has The Last of Us and the new Batman: Arkham Origins game for $199. Not bad if you need to pick up a PS3 to play games you might have missed if you only had a 360.

The only game I plan on buying and playing until Christmas of 2014 is Dark Souls II.

I'm still playing Dark Souls A LOT and have been for the better part of this year.

Just starting Starcraft II. Oh my.
Wings or Heart of the Swarm?

Also I've been getting back into Path of Exile pretty hard since its official release back on October 23rd.

If anyone here likes action RPG in the vein of Diablo 2 or Titanquest, I implore you guys to check it out, 100% free to play game and I have to say its been the best game I've played in years.

Trailer for Open Beta release.

Trailer for Official release.

Theres a thread in the free for all thats pretty deep already almost 60 pages I think as the game was in closed beta for nearly 3 years.

Amazing developers, can't praise them anymore. Oh and the official release landed on Steam.

I have both but I am starting with the WoL campaign before moving onto the HotS campaign.

Anyone playing Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag?

I think I own versions 1 and 2, but never really got into them and came no where near completing them (especially 2).

This seems a bit different and better, however.

It's received decent reviews, too.

are they getting better at the whole "Open World" concept? More like Red Dead, Skyrim, GTA?

ETA: because the older versions had huge beautiful cities, but there was little reason to explore them, ect.

I thought the Ezio trilogy did a good job of recreating those cities to make you want to explore more. Apparently, you could look up certain attracts on Google maps and follow go by a real world map to get around. It was that well done.

Is that AC II, Revelations & Brotherhood? I have only played about 30 min of AC II, so I don't know much about the gameplay, but thought the city was positively stunning.

True story, when my wife and I were planning our trip to Italy a few years back I scouted out the view from our hotel room in Florence by finding the location of the hotel in the game and climbing on the roof. The view matched up almost perfectly, at least as far as noticeable landmarks were concerned. You could even make out the shape of the hotel in the game compared to real life, except that all the rounded corners in real life were square in the game.

Yes, I refer to those three games as the Ezio Trilogy, since they all starred Ezio Auditore da Firenze. They currently my favorite games from the series. I've yet to play Assassin's Creed IV yet, so that one's pending.

I spent entirely too much on AC3 so I'm taking a break. But the ship aspect was awesome in AC3 and I'm glad the sequel is taking advantage of that.

For some reason, it won't let me quote (just upgraded to IE11.)

Anyway, regarding AC4... I noticed some above like it better thanAC2/Ezio games. Count me out - I'm not liking it.

One big reason is the story/progression is almost non-existent. You are a godly assassin from the beginning. It seems like you are just dumped into towns, there are all the side missions you come to expect - contracts, synchronizing, chases, etc. There's no real progression or reason to drive forward anymore.

Secondly, they made many of the mechanics waaaay too easy. Climbing was fun in the Ezio games, because it took a little skill. It's not fun now - it's really twitchy and loose. And it's too easy. You climb everything, immediately, with no effort. You climb stuff you didn't mean to climb. Chasing someone is a real chore now. And fighting... at least in the Ezio games, it took a little timing. It's kind of a joke now - just really easy.

Not a huge fan of the ship fighting. Again, it's pretty easy.

I could see why some would like this, especially those who felt the Ezio games took too much effort. This one (plus AC3) are kind of "plug and play" AC games, focused way more on "easy action" than "assassinations".

You could have said Assassin's Creed 3 and this would look like my thoughts on that game. I don't recall seeing anyone saying they liked it better than the Ezio games. Maybe I missed it. I still haven't played it yet. I should be getting it with my new video card that I'll likely order this week. I'll give my thoughts then.

Suppose very, very few of you play LoL. Tonight is the night! S3 Grand Finals.
http://www.ongamers.com/articles/over-32-million-fans-tuned-into-lol-season-3-world-finals/1100-151/

32 million viewers reported worldwide across all platforms. Haven't seen a simultaneous viewer statistic, along with anyone addressing the bots on streaming sites.
Esports are the fastest growing sport world wide over the past 5 years, every year.

If it keeps pace it could possibly become huge in America.

I'm legitimately interested in investing on the ground floor of American Esports but outside of sponsoring a team I see no in.

I feel like Blizzard is a long term player with a bunch of Esport viable games and I feel like Twitch.tv is going to be around for quite some time.

Explain like I'm 7. Why would streaming sites have bots?
Boosting viewer count artificially to directly increase your revenue through advertising and to create the appearance that your site pulls in more traffic than it actually does.

I have a question about Lara Croft.

I know there is an online component to this game. Do I need a special online pass (like in The Last of Us) or does it just come with online built in?

I just need to know in case I want to buy the game used.

I don't remember needing an online pass. But I do remember the online component to not be very fun. It's subjective though. Try it. You may like it.

Cool thanks.

I am not a big online type player but I am a trophy hunter and noticed this game had a few online trophies and wanted to make sure I could get to them if I purchased used.
