Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

I liked Far Cry 3 until it really opened up into the open world component.

Games like this are just too big in scope and choice for me. I hate driving around in a jeep getting in random firefights for three hours just so I can get to the next stage of the story.

(Yes, I know it's not an RPG.)

Is there no fast travel component? That sucks.

There is, but this is definitely one of those games where the fun is in wandering around and exploring the game world. If you just jump around to story missions it's not particularly satisfying (particularly given how plain weird the plot is in this one).

Yes, there's fast travel. But the points seem really far apart. Wandering around and exploring just isn't interesting to me.

Not a criticism of the game, per se, but it just doesn't mesh with my style. It does look great and the controls are really good.

GameStop is having a B2G1F sale on used games this weekend. With the new job, move, etc, I really haven't been paying attention to this thread, or games in general. I am thinking of getting some games in the six months to one year old range. You know, not to old, not to new. Don't want expensive games. Looking for ones in that $15-$25 range. I've played RPGs (like Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur), Action (LoU, Lara Croft, Dead Rising), not in to shooters.

If you had a choice of any three games regardless of age, what would they be? Games I saw that I might be interested in. Dead Rising 2, Far Cry 3, Batman games, Last Light: Metro, Dead Space 3. I guess what I am really looking for is a free form, 3 game HoF lineup. And I'm just to out of touch to come up with a good one on my own.
Far Cry 3 for certain. No matter what, get this one.

If you like stealth games (with some action thrown in), Dishonored is great.

For an RPG, Divinity 2 or Two Worlds 2 are both pretty decent.
Agree with this 100%. Far Cry 3 is a couple notches above Dishonored, but they both were incredibly fun to play.

Was going through my Steam receipts in my email and I had completely forgotten that I purchased Deus Ex: Human Revolution during the summer Steam sale.

been slowly making my way through gta... loving it...

i will steal a jumbi jet at some point. i have stole the smaller ones. the big ones take so long to start taxing that i get caught

Picked up Desktop Dungeons last night. It is a roguelike game. Huge amounts of depth to it, though. Completely evil time suck. Loving it so far.

Playing GTA V. Was really excited about it but the first handful of missions (tow truck, playing tennis...etc) were slow going and really......boring. Did the first heist and then got Trevor last night and now I am addicted.

This is freeware right?
No - $15. There is a beta that is free, but the retail version was completely rebuilt.
Played this game a long time ago, not sure if it was the freeware version or if I pirated the full version - either way I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I recently saw they have a goty or whatever edition that addressed many of the complaints including boss battles with stealth. I am wondering if anyone has played this edition and is it worth the extra cash?

anyone playing black flag?
Got into it a little on ps4. The worst parts of that game are the Assassins Creed parts. Overall a ton of fun but the follow missions and a couple of the assassinations have been brutal.

On the other hand the sailing and sea battles are the closest thing I've seen/got to Sid Meier's Pirates ever so enjoying that a ton.

Finally got my Xbox in after a problem with UPS. Bought Ghosts on the upgrade program and Dead Rising. Played a couple hours of dead rising tonight and it seems like it'll be good mindless fun. Going to have to try to stop myself from buying Forza tomorrow but with the all digital present we are now in it will probably be difficult. Far too easy to spend money now. And I can do it with voice alone! I'm screwed.

In case you guys were unaware, the Steam Autumn sale started yesterday and runs through the 3rd of Dec.

Same old situation, daily deals end noon central time, flash sales every 8 hours at noon, 8pm and 4am central time.

I've been playing Resogun the past few days. It's a side-scrolling shooter, like a cross between Super Stardust HD and Defender. It's fun and very addictive, but also hard as hell. I just can't beat the final level on medium difficulty (Experienced), and I'm positive I've given it 30+ tries. Gotten close several times, but I can't get a ship all the way through it. The fast, nimble ship I normally use can't get to the boss, and the slow, heavy-firepower ship I use as a fallback can get to the boss but then gets murdered by AOE attacks. Ugh.

Thanks for the heads up! Been so deep in new consoles I probably would have missed half of the sale.

I love/hate Steam sales. I have 83 games in my Steam library... I've never played 34 of them. But they were so cheap I couldn't resist!

I'll get to them one day... one day.

Been loving resogun! Got my high score around 62M for 150ish in the world. All I can suggest is using your bombs if you're getting swamped. The enemy layout stays the same so once you get used to that you can start planning your runs a little as well.

I use the Orbos for high score runs and Nemesis for survivability. If/when you start getting more comfortable I have lots of tips for high score potential!

Edit: Final boss. Use your boost in very small increments and always be shooting backwards. You will still have to avoid especially when it gets to the wormholes part but if you're using Nemesis and using short boosts you are immune for half the fight at least and makes it a lot easier!

I'm in the same spot.

Pfft. 83 is all? Noob. Talk to me when you have well over 200 and still have unused codes in a Google file to be either used or gifted.

I just built my PC this year. Give me time! :D

You know it's bad when you already own 11 of the 12 daily deals.

Yeah, I'm pretty confident I can beat the final boss with Nemesis, but I can't get to the boss in that ship. I've gotten there a bunch of times with Phobos, but those wormhole things wreck me. I think I need to save a bomb or overdrive for that stage.

If you still don't own Dark Souls for some reason, its 80% off for $5.99 for today.

Have a twitch account?

Working on my second playthrough of The Witcher 2. I think this is the first time I have ever done a second play through of an RPG. I highly recommend this one but I come from the perspective where I like a nice challenge but a well told story is much more important to me. You can play TW2 on insane difficulties but it's real value is in the story which is incredibly rich and detailed.

The only flaw is there is a steep learning curve on combat. It wasn't until I was deep into the second chapter (of three) that I really got the hang of combat but once it clicks it becomes very fun and, at times quite elegant.

Perhaps my favorite RPG of all time. I love Mass Effect but for me TW2 edges it out because your actions really do have consequences. At the end of ME3 no matter what decisions you made throughout you still got three choices for the endgame. With TW2 there are, I believe, 16 possible outcomes and around 13 major decision points that impact which of the 16 outcomes you will get. So the ending is truly up in the air. TW2 incorporated your game saves if you played TW1 and I really hope they incorporate TW2 choices with as much depth with TW3, which is now the most anticipated game on my wishlist.

Never made it far in TW1 because of that combat learning curve. Sounds like I need to try again.

The good part of these lego games for kids means dieing is meaningless.

He likely could not play alone due to the puzzles but if you wanted to try co-op, just have him spam one button and then when you needed help for a puzzle, tell him which buttons to push.

Any XBOX Live Gold membership discounts out there?
Amazon had a 3 month deal for $16 that included a $5 amazon video credit. Since mine was about to expire I grabbed that, but I'm still looking for some discounted 1 year deals.
Microsoft had it for $40 and Target had the 3 month for $10 earlier. I passed on both hoping for something closer to the $30 PS+ deals. Hopefully something else is offered.

It usually goes on sale for $40 a few times per year. I think the cheapest I've ever landed it in the 360 era was $36.

So between TRU's Sale and Gamestop's sale I got the following the games for about $140.

GTA V

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag

Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Batman: Arkham City GOTY edition

Ico/Shadows of the Colossus combo

Portal 2 (rebuy...lost my copy in a poker game)

Alan Wake (rebuy, same reason)

Halo 4

Red Dead Redemption/Undead Nightmare

Also picked up the PS3 bundle with Last of Us and Batman:Arkham Origins for $175.

I popped in NBA 2k14 in the XBO the other night. It was my first time playing the series. The game is as impressive as advertised, but I feel a bit overwhelmed with the learning curve of the controls. Any suggestions from fans of the series?

You can go through the tutorial drills, but I still felt overwhelmed afterwards (same with madden actually). I ended up learning a couple of juke moves (basically just manipulating the right stick) and I was able get by on standard difficulty levels.

For those with PS+, Ico and SOTC have been free for a few months. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone missed it.
