Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

Civilization: Beyond Earth

Anyone playing? It's $42 on iOS. Thought Civ 5 might be on sale for cheap... nope.
Bought it during the recent steam sale, opinions of it thus far - very lame.

I say that as someone who played 200+ hours of both Civ 4 and Civ 5.

What little depth the game does have isn't impressive, the tech web was an interesting concept executed horribly, the affinity system was a novel idea until you realize it ruined the game.

Playing Saint's Row 3. This is pretty fun. It's been one of those games I keep putting off. This should keep me busy until the GTAV release.

I'm thinking about picking up SR 4 for less than 20 bucks. The knock on IV is that it's the same map as III and largely the same kind of challenges... but #### it, SR3 is a lot of fun and I wouldn't mind some repeat. I miss being able to play as a naked buxom model.

Question for the Mordor folk.

what's the advantage of moving timing forward
Started playing this last night. A bit overwhelming and that's coming from a life long gamer. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it but lots of details to control for a button masher.

The original tutorial says moving time forward is good for changing day/night (sneaking or maybe some captain weaknesses) and also for resolving power struggles. Not sure why you would want a power struggle to be resolved...

One of the early perks is the assassination one. This seems to have a time limit? I had it show up while fighting a small horde and wanted to save it for a moment when I need a clean kill and it seemed it went away.

Two questions about charging the controller on ps4

1) if ps4 is in standby mode (orange color) does the controller charge?

2) is there an indication on the controller itself that it is fully charged or do I have to look in the tv screen for the battery icon?

Yes it charges. On Controller no but the console light should go off when it's done

Ah, ok, so that orange glow goes away then when charged?

Thanks.

You missed out on the Thanksgiving Weekend Steam sale. I got Civ V for $8.
Don't think that'd work for me. I'm on Apple products and not real familiar with Steam. I liked the Civ game on iOS but not for $15. Oh well.

Steam has a slew of games available for Macs and Linux systems too. Civ V is available on Mac via Steam, as is Civilization: Beyond Earth.

Cracked open Shadows of Mordor.

Amazing awesome sauce. If you loved the Batman series this game is a dream. I love it.

Finished The Evil Within earlier today. This is clearly my GOTY and it's what RE5 should have been.
Very happy to hear this. We're on the same page with most games iirc
I just want to elaborate a little on this one, because while I think it's a stellar game, I can see where it's not everybody. This is very much an old-school survivor horror game, which means you'll be spending a fair amount of time fighting the camera and game mechanics as much as you're fighting the enemies. TEW also features a fair number of gun-wielding zombies, which is a no-no in my book. The frame rate is horrible and it has black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. The black bars don't bother me (the restricted field of view adds tension IMO) but I can see it bothering other people. Finally, I want to warn people that the story has promise but is never resolved and just sort of dies out there at the end of the game.

Having said all that, 90% of the scenes in this game could have appeared in RE4 without missing a beat. This game literally begs to be compared to the Resident evil franchise -- you'll notice lots of references as you play through this -- and I think it holds up well. A more colorful main character would have helped, and the last couple of chapters ditched horror for action (but so did RE4). Still, my first playthrough took forever because I kept reloading checkpoints because I just knew that I could clear this area using less ammo or taking less damage. That's the sign of a really well-designed game. You can't cheese enemies in TEW like you could in RE4, and that makes this game harder IMO, There's all sorts of weapon variety and upgrade options. Nightmare and Akumu mode sound insane. Good stuff all around. The Evil Within is not going to go down as being on par with RE4, but the fact that that's the point of comparison is extremely positive.

Hmm now I'm interested.
Same here. What type of horror game would you say it feels the most like? I'm a huge fan of resident evil 1, dead space, eternal darkness, but can be bored by many of the newer actiony stuff out there.
It feels the most like Resident Evil 4. Without spoiling anything, there's a mini-boss who chases you around with a chainsaw, crows that drop random stuff when you shoot them, bear-traps laying around on the ground, and zombies who can somehow throw dynamite and operate turrets, all of which appeared in RE4. Dead Space is also a pretty good parallel in that it has a similar mix of "creeping around in an atmospheric environment" and "shooting things."

I know many were down on the last last release of Call Of Duty. That being said, my son wants the latest one. My question is, what is the difference between Advanced Warfare and the Advanced Warfare - Day One edition?

I have a Diablo question.

I am just starting adventure mode.

On the map, near the bounties, sometimes there is a little diablo icon next to them and sometimes not. What does that mean?

See pic below. There is a little icon next to Archives of Zoltun Kulle and not one next to Stinging Windshttp://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140528215547/diablo/images/a/a7/Diablo-iii-reaper-of-souls-adventure-mode-4.jpg
It means the waypoint is near a major boss
Thanks! I have a couple of other questions about adventure mode.

Do the bad guys level with your character in adventure mode? Like if I start with a brand new character in adventure mode will it get creamed or will the bad guys be level 1 as well?

Similar question for Paragon levels. My level 70 guy is now a level 12 paragon. Are the bad guys keeping pace or are they stuck on level 70?

Reaper of Souls is fantastic. The 5th act was huge and the adventure mode with bounties and rifts is fantastic. Really good expansion.

Anyone want to play Minecraft hunger games or adventure games? Xbox one version. Gt is we goin sizzler.

Nothing essentially. Don't worry about it.

Crysis 3 for $5.99 on Origin right now. Pretty good price. Complete Batman bundle at Bundlestars for $10, as well. All DLC, everything, for each.

Not sure, but I think you need to finish a playthrough to unlock adventure mode on each character. I haven't even hit level 70 yet, so I can't really answer that question. I know that the enemies do scale in the lower levels, while D3 on the PC there was no scaling, only different difficulties. Not sure how to play in the upper torment levels when enemies are constantly scaling. If I were to guess, I would think the enemies top out at 70 and the paragon levels help you enter the higher difficulties.

Edit: I also agree that RoS is a nice expansion. Adventure mode is a lot of fun and provides a nice mix of gameplay although I think it slows my leveling since I tend to skip all the enemies and just focus on the bounties. Thinking of starting my first ever HC character in all my years of Diablo playing.
