Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (11 Viewers)

You won't now but in 10-15 years everyone on earth will be parked in their couch with them on.
When that becomes standard that will likely be when I stop gaming.  I hate the idea of being locked in one thing and just isolated.  I usually game while watching tv, and still get to call it "spending time with my gf" when she's watching some crap on tv, and I'm enjoying myself on the couch next to her playing my games, and can occasionally converse with her.  Getting isolated into a VR game really just doesn't sound like my thing.

ETA: My one exception may be an amazing x-wing/tie fighter type remake... i'll admit that could be too cool to say no to.

Sounds like Switch may bust early according to reviews? There is nothing but ####ty games out for it off the bat. (Sans Zelda)

My step-daughter wants it from day one. What to do? What to do?

I feel like that system isn't meant so much for Americans.  Maybe I'm just too old, but they kept showing ads where you'd play on a plane and then come home and hook in, and I would never do that.  From a buddy, I know that kinda thing is bigger in Japan and such.

I can already play GTA on my phone on the sly, there's not any situation where I'd be traveling and whip out a Nintendo.

Nintendo has been a horribly run company for many years now. From the awfully selling Wii U, to many Black riday deals not being available from day 1 to supply issues, to creating a new system with exactly one game that anybody wants (and the game is almost exactly the same on WiiU). THey make some great first generation games. They should stick to that and the DS.

Got about 5 hours of Horizon Zero Dawn in last night.  I was concerned that the controls would be wonky and I wouldn't be able to be the badass we've seen in all the trailers.  About 10 minutes into the game I was no longer worried.  The controls are super smooth and I feel like a legit hunter while playing.  To me this is a cross between Assassin's Creed and Skyrim but with better controls.  GOTY contender for sure.
Would an exclusive game ever win GOTY?

Any must buy games coming out for PS4? Bought Madden for cheap a fews weeks ago, bored with BF1(as I always seem to do with those games, and am still loving R6Siege.
Horizon just released. Ghost Recon on the 7th and Mass Effect on the 21st.

Also there might still be some pretty good deals on PSN for Overwatch and Doom. And few other games too.

I should have said contender for my GOTY.  I don't care about review sites and such.
I read Shady's post, just seems odd to me that an exclusive game could win GOTY. I am hoping that it will eventually port to Xbox but not holding my breath.

Guerrilla (maker of Horizon Zero Dawn) is owned by Sony. I'd say it's more likely to get Halo on PS before Horizon on Xbox.

Yep.......It is a tedious task. I am giving up shortly. I got a ton of great times out of the game after 45 hours. It will be my favorite in the series thus far.

One thing I will do is replay it on the survival mode setting. When you die.....you die.
I did it. Finished tonight. Only the second game I have ever payed to 100%, one on the PS3, and this one on the PS4. Both times I got the exact same reward... absolutely nothing. I see no point in folks wanting to get 100% completion. Bunch of tedium and mundane tasks and you don't even get anything for it. WTH? Someone needs to explain this whole concept to me.

It's a good question.

Just finished Assassin's Creed: Rogue (very underrated in the AC franchise) and that game has a ton of collectibles.  For a lot of them collecting unlocks special armor or weapons, which is good incentive. But I was really frustrated with the naval campaign because if you finish it you unlock Altair's sword, which is by far the best weapon in the game, however you can't actually finish the naval campaign until after you finish the damn story! So what's the point?  I get this bad### sword to do what with, exactly? Replay a game I just spent a couple dozen hours finishing?

Very lame.

Worst for me was AC:Unity, I think they had some side quest line where you had to go around Paris finding clues where you really had to either do internet research, read every bit of data in the game encyclopedia, or online cheat.  I online cheated and it STILL took hours of time to complete, I thought I was going to get some cool armor for it, but it turns out it was an "outfit" so basically a skin with no armor bonus.  Worst ####### side quest I've ever done.

You deserve a real life medal if you went 100% on AC Unity. I'm a huge AC fan and even I only skimmed through the main quest as quickly as possible on that one.

Horizon Zero Dawn is simply amazing. It is truly a next gen game. It will be a system seller (PS4 Pro) and I am playing it on the original PS4 and it looks and plays absolutely incredible.

Seriously GOTY already and IMO it will be the best release this year on PS4 bar none. Totally hooked into the story, lore, crafting, soundtrack, voice acting, leveling system (pretty basic skill tree fare but still 3 ways to go)...the whole monty.

Run out and buy this game. You won't regret it.

Funny, I just finished Assassin's Creed: Black Flag this week (second time completing main story) and it's the first time I've also played a game to 100% completion. Even though it has some issues, I love the setting and naval battles so much, it has an argument for being on my Mount Rushmore of gaming.

I may go back and play Unity now that a lot of the bugs are ironed out. I also have Syndicate waiting on my computer to play (someday).

How are you finding the character builds?  Does it feel like you could replay the game a completely different way just on build choices?

I like this game except for the lack of save points. Roam around for 20 minutes and then stumble upon something that kills you and lose that 20 minutes.

It's possible I did. But as I may have mentioned in the past, I never look at trophies. I tried it once on the PS3 and it was spinning for awhile and I just said "forget it." So yea, if that's the reward, I guess it reiterates my feeling on it all.

You can go stealthy or Melee. And combine that with crafting and gathering resources skills and unique tree skills for each build to attack differently etc. I am very early into my first play through. Also I am looking at moving up to hard (from normal) as that reduces the amount of resources you can scavenge. The AI is solid. As far as Replayability? I would rate it as moderate, meaning maybe one more full replay before shelving it for good. But I am the kind of gamer who if I get 55-65 hours out of one play through in an open world action RPG (think Far Cry, Batman Arkham City)......I am satisfied. But if the story is super powerful which thus far I can see this game will be, I will come back to it for another run. That is why I have replayed the Mass Effect series, the Dead Space series and The Last Of Us several times. After this game and the new Mass Effect I will be moving on to The Witcher 3 for my very first play through and by everything I have seen and read that may be a 150-200 hour oddesy like Skyrim has been for me (which I am still playing as I restarted a new Stealth Archer build on the remaster and already logged 100 hours LOL)

I have had no problem finding camp fires to light so far. Also I think that is part of the risk you take adventuring and exploring away from your camp fire. I think it adds a layer of difficulty which I welcome.

I am not going to do 100% on Primal, but I do want a few 100% completion on some things (side missions, hunts etc) But as far as collecting all the masks and other trinkets?.....Hell no. That is mindless. I have covered the entire map and it has been an amazing game. IMO one of the highly underrated titles from last year. And a replay on survival mode will happen one day in the future. It will be pretty awesome feeling like I did during those first 10-12 hours, for an entire play through. Utter fear of being hunted and eaten. I will have a much different mind set on survival mode.

So what does it take to get 100% on Far Cry: Primal? I have five cave paintings to go, maybe about the same number of rocks. Two more of the big critters to tame. But I haven't done any of the hunting quests. A bunch of undiscovered locations. Am I safe to assume that to get 100%, there can be noting left on the map? To be honest, going through these caves trying to find rocks and paintings is getting absolutely painful.
Yup gotta do all caves, discover and or tame all animals, pick up all daysha hands and other little nonsense.

If you haven't played Rogue I highly recommend it.  Lots of naval battles, which feels a little more refined than in IV plus they add some cool elements (wait until the first time a brig rams your ship and you'll see).  I am not sure why Rogue did not get so much publicity compared to ACIII, IV or Syndicate but it's really a very good game, plus it wraps up the whole Kennway story line with lots of references to ACIII and IV.

sorry, I was being pretty sarcastic there, never really into playstation trophies. Understand how kids can love them, always find it funny when an adults do.

Horizon Zero Dawn looks amazing and the gameplay seems really tight. I think it will not be GOTY though because if the time of year it released. Recency bias happens all the time in video game industry.  A lot of other big franchises coming out later this year.

I read the parent sense or whatever it's called.

11 year old daughter - pretty innocent   - I think Star Wars is the only pg13 movie she has seen.

Can she watch it?

Yea, you were obvious with the sarcasm so no worries there. I just threw a reply out there anyways. I don't know how long I had that PS3, my first console, before I even knew there were trophies. Once I saw them, it just seemed pretty irrelevant to me. But yea, I can see where to young ones it might be the whole "I did it first" kind of thing.

Wow Dishonored 2 is sooo much harder than the first. I can't get past anything in this game, even on easy. Going to give it one more try and that's it.

It seems the new Zelda game is the best game ever. According to the consensus of critics. 98 on metacritic right now, putting it in tie for second all time. Only one game has gotten higher, Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That game only had 22 reviews vs the 64 reviews of the new Zelda.

I just started but it's pretty good so far

I felt the same way.  It gets easier.  Keep with it

This game greatly rewards exploration.  There's just about always a way to avoid enemies altogether or arrange to take them out one by one.  A few exceptions of course.

I played and loved the first one. This one is significantly harder, I'm in the neutral area and can't find any but one ruin and can't get past the first light wall. Really frustrating.

I couldn't figure a way up there and my plan was to play through as each of them. I'll give it another shot, just got really frustrated last night so just shut it off.
I don't think I ever actually turned off a wall of light except when I was messing around.  There's always a way to get around them.
