Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Let's see what I remember....

Start as a sorcerer, Buy 30 more soul arrow right away down in New Londo. Get a sword and shield (eventually having longsword and heater shield, but you won't get those right away).

Edit for brevity...

However, I did stop at Sen's Fortress, so I don't know how effective it is later on.
I remember this build Did it on one of my run throughs. Was actually pretty easy versus other builds.

MLB The Show 18 is a massive gameplay upgrade to any previous version of the series. Just fantastic. Best console baseball game ever made. It plays so smooth and the batter/pitcher showdown is simply marvelous.

Picking up my Gold Edition copy of Far Cry 5 today. Was out of town when it was released but I pre-ordered it. Looking forward to starting that this weekend. Between those 2 games and The Witcher 3 I am set till the end of the year and then Black Friday time.

have they made any changes to the way you can earn stubs? last year, playing the market was almost like a second job if you wanted to put together some scratch for good cards.

Not really. At least last year you had the career portion for achieving different stats that if you got to the big milestone, you’d get 14k stubs. They need to fix the bug with how fastballs are not really fast. Someone did a frame by frame of Aroldis in ‘17 next to ‘18 throwing a four seamer, both at 100 mph, and ‘18 was a frame slow out of 12 frames. Essentially made his 100 mph fastball an 86 mph one.

Offline the game is golden. Online is vastly improved in terms of server stability.

But the game does not play online like it does offline. Not even close.

Tried Fortnite for about 2.5 hours last night. Did not kill a single person. Average game consisted of me collecting stuff for a little bit and then getting insta-death headshot by the first player I ran into.

I watched some of the matches to the end.The stuff some of the winners did makes me think they might not be the same species as me.

I played for the first time the other night and for a little while yesterday. Unless I catch somebody unaware of my presence I get slaughtered.

Im not a huge fan of the bunny hopping and dolphin diving. I like my shooters to be more realistic/slower paced.

Rainbow 6 siege is more my style.

about 20 or so games in to NBA2k18

playing on Pro level is so difficult as to make the game not enjoyable. the computer doesn't miss open shots, doesn't cough up fast break points, powers through every double team and makes every put back.

Devon Booker had back to back turnaround 3 pointers with a man in his face. i can't even make a layup half the time.
apparently i'm a glutton for punishment. every few days i'll take another crack at it. no change.

layups are impossible. forget about making a basket in any kind of traffic. dunking can only be done on a clean breakaway. the first quarter is somewhat normal. 2nd quarter significantly more difficult. 3rd pretty much unplayable and the 4th is a joke.

my last 2 games:  up 10 after the end of the first quarter, scored 32 pts (a miracle!). 2nd quarter, scored FOUR POINTS, down 26.  wtf

game before that, i was down as much as 44 before pulling within 36.

computer ratchets up the difficulty level to unplayable levels. there's no way to shake a guy with the dribble. there are no open passing lanes. there are no open jumpers. layups either get blocked or bricked. meanwhile, his players speed doubles and he's making every three.. taking one dribble from the three point line and dunking over my center & power forward. missed threes are caroming to a center with his back to the basket around the free throw line that has to jump away from the hoop, but before landing he spins and puts up a perfect jumper.

throwing this #### in the garbage

I haven't played it yet after getting it for my kids for Easter.  I did pop it in last night and just played the "retro" game mode.  That was decent fun for a few minutes.  You could throw the old drop ball like Baseball Stars, and the CPU fell for it everytime.

Over the weekend, I got engrossed in the Masters and decided I wanted a golf game for the PS4 Pro.  Apparently, your only two choices are Rory McIlroy Golf (2015) from EA and a game called The Golf Club 2, which has no licenses for real courses or players and apparently has a very steep learning curve.  I decided to get Rory since even though the initial reviews were crap, that was more due to a paucity of playable content.  Apparently,  since the game was released 3 years ago, it's been supplemented with DLC that made it a lot better.  I chose that.

No way to buy it digitally.  Not on Amazon, not on the PS store, nowhere.  Only physical copies available.  Not one store (Walmart, Target, GameStop, Best Buy) anywhere within 25 miles of me that had a physical copy to purchase.  Literally the ONLY way I could find to get it was to order it for $33 on CD-ROM from Amazon and wait until today to receive it.  Pass.

Nice work, EA/PS.

It’s on sale digitally on Xbox.

Golf Club 2 is AWESOME.   People make the real courses and you can download them for free. And they are pretty freaking good.  Augusta is called

Magnolia or The Masters

It is?  I read a lot of people talking about how difficult it is, and the side-by-side videos I saw of game play/commentary left me wanting.

Oh it's hard as balls.   It depends what you want out of your game. The announcer sucks.  If your a TW more arcade it's not for you

See, that's tough.  I prefer a slightly harder game than the old TW games (I got to the point where I was averaging rounds in the mid 50s and flirting with 40s, that's ridiculous) on the old PS3 versions.  I prefer a little tougher than that, but I'll get frustrated if I'm firing rounds in the 80s and missing cuts left and right.  I'm a career-mode guy, so the presentation and announcing on the Rory game (at least from what I saw online) is more appealing to me than the career mode on TGC.

I have it on my PS4 and it is a digital download, but I have had it for about a year so not sure why it isn't still available.

I bought it digitally a month or so ago.  Wanted to get a golf game I could play with my son (7yo).  It was like $20.  I'd check again.

Yeah the career mode is meh but I like the game because I can play any course
The gameplay itself looked really blah in the videos I saw - yea or nay?  Like the animation of the player swinging looked awkward and the ball physics, etc looked really bland and one-dimensional.  I guess that's how I would explain it - more like the old Sega PGA Tour III moreso than the TW games of the last generation.  I may have to look into it more, although my fervor for a golf game has worn off some now that the Masters is over.

This is so weird.  Unavailable for download on PS Store or Amazon, physical copies only on the latter.  Target and Walmart, doesn't even exist on their sites.  Target has it for Xbox, but not PS4, Walmart doesn't have it at all.  Gamestop and Best Buy now have the digital versions for Xbox at $19.99 and for PS4 at $59.99.

The Golf Club 2 won't win any awards for graphics or presentation but it plays a much better game of golf than Rory, imo. It is challenging to start but with some practice you can still shoot some pretty low scores. Check out tgctours.com for a pretty cool free online career/season mode option. Basically you sign up, complete a Q-school and  from there you are placed on a "tour". They have weekly tournaments, score tracking, etc.

I haven't ventured into online as I still suck.  I found im better with the left stick.  Let me rephrase that.  I don't suck my issue is with hitting it straight with the sticks.  I know what to do but not consistent.  I finally got putting down.

I think the physics are really well done but yeah presentation isn't going to win anything

Which clubs are you using? I've dabbled with the tour clubs a bit but am way more comfortable with the player set.

OK, you guys convinced me.  Found TGC2 for $19.99 at Gamestop.  Buying it today.  Thanks everyone.
This is the right choice. Rory was a step backwards, and despite the downloadable stuff they've offered the last few years, it's still inferior to the last Tiger Woods game.

TCG2 is a good game of golf, and it's not that hard - if you got good at the TW games, you won't have any trouble here after awhile.

Cool, thanks to you and everyone else here.  Is there anywhere online to search/sort through the user-designed courses or is there an in-game search function?

yeah its not hard. In the game its pretty easy.  Then you mark it as a favorite.
Excellent, thanks.  Curious to see how many local courses (to me) are on there - probably a lot as there are so many damn courses here in Central FL.  Of course, I suck so hard at real golf that I'd never pony up the $$ to play them as I'd just end up holding people up and being embarrassed, so I'd like to play them virtually.

I just opened the bag from GameStop. Naturally, paid for a new game and got a pre-owned one.  :lmao:   This GD thing had better work.

The pain in the balls is - you have to then start the search over.  For example.  I search by designer for Magnolia.    He has a few. Once I mark as favorite. I need to go back to the search again.  You can't multi favorite at once.  Not a big deal but a bit "clunky"

ETA: I didn't know there was a disc version

Yep.  I was just looking around on their website and searched availability at my local store, or so I thought.  $19.99 new instead of $39.99 for the DL version on PS Store. Got an e-mail about 5 minutes later saying they had it and were holding it for me.  OK.  So, I drove over at lunch and grabbed it - took about 5 minutes.  Dude bagged it and rang it up.  Got back to the office and opened the bag - no seal on the box, the insert is all crinkled up, there's a spot on the cover where a sticker once was, covered with glue.  Sure, this is a new game.

Could be new.  Gamestop opens games before they are sold.  Even let their employees play the games then still sell them as new.  Its one of a few hundred bad business decisions by GameStop.

Which preorder did they try to sell you today?

I've never gotten an unsealed game marked as new at Gamestop.

I used to. It was very rare I ever got a sealed game. It was one of two reasons that I stopped buying games from there. They open all the boxes and put them in paper sleeves in a drawer behind the counter. Then they’d ask you if you wanted to buy the $3 protection plan. Still makes me mad thinking about it.

*As a side note, the other reason was I’d pre-order a game (and I’d pay in full) and if I wasn’t there before they could sell all the copies they’d sell the game that I pre-ordered.
