Vilma for Andre Johnson (1 Viewer)

I need LBs and Andre Johnson is my #3 WR behind Boldin and TO. Dynasty league, typical scoring, Vilm

Vilma produced similar scoring to guys like Chris Chambers in my league last year. There aren't a lot of linebackers that do that. Andre Johnson's NFL career has been unfulfilled potential to date, whereas Vilma is living up to the billing. I tend to think AJ will eventually produce but giving up Vilma to get him is a mistake. If you really like the thought of adding AJ, I don't think it's unfair to offer a lesser LB (Brackett, Farrior, Washington, Barnett), or an aging but productive one (Zach, Edwards).

Irish, I took it as he was giving up AJ to get Vilma. Browns #1,

There are two things you failed to mention that would make a huge difference in this decision.

1. Number of teams in your league

2. How many linebackers can you start.

There is alot of turnover at the linebacker spot where you may be able to fill your LB needs by doing research and combing the waiver wire. If you are in a smaller league (10 or less) where you only start 2/3, I would think you can get some impact LB's that route. This is less likely to be an option if you are in a larger league (14-16) that starts 3-4 LB's.

A situation to monitor is in San Diego where there is specualtion/rumor that Donnie Edwards may be traded/released.

voted for acquiring vilma

this vote assumes that you can start 3 LB's (or 2 + a flex) and play in a league that has 12+ teams

I've got both already, so this is purely hypothetical...but if I could get a 25 year-old WR who's got Pro Bowl talent for a linebacker - even one as good as Vilma - I'd do it in a heartbeat. When Johnson is hitting his prime in 2009 it's going to look silly even asking this question. Quality WRs are rare commodities, and servicable LBs can be had for a pittance. It would hurt to lose a player the caliber of Vilma, but the pain would be eased by knowing I'd made the smart decision.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

Trade never worked out, but as an FYI, we have 12 team league and can start up to 4LBs with 2 DBs, 3-3, or 2 LBs and 4 DBs. We also start 2 RBs and 3 WR.
