Vince Young Not coming back with Titans (1 Viewer)

I feel bad for Young; seems like he's been a good leader in terms of wins/losses. I'm not so sure he can overcome flaking out though. IMHO all of his accomplishments in Tennessee were undone by (1) his antics during/after the 2008 season opener vs. Jacksonville, how he dealt with adversity, fans booing, and obviously disappearing with a pistol that evening didn't help, and (2) after he'd seemingly redeemed himself to some extent, flaking out again with an outburst against Fisher this season. Whether he was right or wrong being upset is a separate topic; I don't think you'll find many coaches who would put up with what he reportedly did. Reportedly even teammates on his side implored him not to leave the lockeroom like he did, but he chose to. The impression I'm left with is this guy is an emotional roller coaster. He's up, then he's down. He's hot, then he's cold. If he showed any ability to stay on an even keel when the chips are down I'd love his odds of finding success elsewhere. But again, a head coach in the NFL is looking for a lot of intangibles in his leader, and while I think Fisher is grossly overrated as a head coach I do not think many NFL head coaches would deal with Vince's flake out situations any differently than he did. I actually think he'll have a more difficult time finding a new team than some are thinking.
:lmao: Stats do not equal leadership. I would imagine many of the head coaches are going to look at him as a developmental experiment at this point and not the savior QB to their organization. When the going gets tough down the stretch, is this the QB that is going to hang in the game, emotionally motivate the rest of the team, and take you to victory? I just don't see it right now. In the future, maybe. The dude has to mature a bit though. I say get the guy some Depression/anxiety medication, a psychology, and a puppy and game on.

And as a final thought, Young isn't doing himself any favors based on quotes I've read today. Whining that "Everything was always my fault" and "[Fisher] never trusted me" is only perpetuating the perception of him. Coming on the heels of him texting apology to Fisher, it all screams 6 wonderlic. What he needs right now is earnest introspection of what he did wrong, causing him as a fairly successful QB to be outright released by an owner who worshipped him. That wasn't about Fisher, he has been given up on by his one supporter. Instead he comes off as a finger pointing child. I don't know, he may be incapable of understanding these things but I'd hope he gets guidance from people who do.

Frankly, I'm super optimistic for next season. We have Britt, CJ, Cook seems to be an emerging stud, a good OL. If we have anyone decent throwing the ball to our receivers, and injuries stay at bay, we should have a solid offense. Under Collins, we scored 23 points per game down the 1-3 stretch. I think it's not a coincidence that we score in bundles when Britt's in the game. Has Moss decided to leave? He seemed like a pro in the clubhouse and it would be interesting to have both on the field next season, assuming he can learn a new position (granted, our offense might only really support one WR). Damian Williams seems to be capable, while Washington strikes me as a 3rd down/deep threat specialist.

Getting Haynesworth back would be a boost (even though our DL is decent.. we need more pressure with a 4 man rush) -- I'm not sure TEN is pursuing him. Like Verner, Finnegan, Hope, and Griffin. The linebackers need a complete overhaul (except maybe McRath, and Tully if he stays). Mariani gives us a threat in special teams for once in a long time.

So my wish list would be:

1. A young pocket passing QB (with KC or someone like Orton, for a season, leading the offense while the young QB develops)

2. Haynesworth

3. Barrett Ruud/DQwell Jackson (if Tully leaves town), Greenway; I also liked what I saw out of Nicholas

I'd be interested in knowing what the homers know on the ground. It doesn't feel like we are far off at all. Even this team right now, when healthy and w/o qb controversy, produces and can go a long way.

I am glad he's going to be gone. The Titans have become a shell of the team I love and I blame YOung for some of that. I hope he gets a shot somewhere and turns things around, but I'm glad it won't be in Nashville. I'm hoping that Ryan Mallet is available for them in the first. Let Collins start one more year

This is for the best, Young returning to Tenn with probably half the team and fans hating him would've been disastrous. He needs a father figure type HC or a veteran to take him under his wing, but in the right situation I could see a motivated VY doing well next year.

Also, no chance he gets traded, not with him scheduled to pull down 12.5 million or so next year. Its a good thing Condon's his agent now, hopefully he'll guide VY into making a wise choice.

Tennessee will go after Kolb or even Matt Flynn, or they will try to get Mallet or even get Locker in the 2nd round.
I could see Kolb there. It would give Fisher a future QB that he doesn't have to fully develop sans attitude as opposed to a rookie. This would make the most sense if he wants to keep his job too.
This has legs, boys.
Yeah, but they'd have to give up Chris Johnson to get a guy of Kolb's caliber. That has to set them back a little.

This might have already been said, I didn't read through the first two pages but...

this is great for Vince, I never wanted him to go to Tenessee. Fisher never wanted him and ran a babied offense around him. A fresh start is what Vince needs, is what Tennessee needs... Vince will be a productive fantasy football player at some point in the next couple of years. Buy low in dynasty. Spend a 3rd rounder on him right now.

The thing that strikes me about this situation is VY was clearly one of the most talented players in 2006. Not just leading up to the draft, but he also won Rookie of the Year. I'm convinced VY could be every bit as good as Donovan McNabb ever was. He just needs the right coach. Hopefully he, and Tom Condon can figure that out this offseason. Go to the wrong team, and it could be career over. If he lands with a coach that develops QBs (McCarthy, Harbaugh, Weiss, Holmgren if he coaches, Reid, etc) VY could realize his potential. Fisher clearly was not a VY guy from the beginning. I do think he's a good coach, I just have to question his QB development skills after his VY experience. I watched Holmgren take Favre from a immature womanizing drunk into a NFL MVP. Rhodes and Sherman lost him for years, but McCarthy dialed him back in to a NFC Conference Championship game. The right coach can make all the difference in a players career.

Fisher did a pretty good job with McNair.I think people are reading into all of this way too much RE: Fisher. He's a good coach, who fans and players generally like, and has a knack for getting the best out of his players. He's also quick to put his foot down if there's any lack of disrespect.Overall, I think this is just the consequence of an owner meddling in football affairs to the detriment of the team. Having a QB that the GM and entire coaching staff don't particularly favor (even if they respect his talents) is not a good idea. Had VY played more consistently -- overall -- sure, this lack of chemistry would be neatly swept over. We saw some great things when VY came to play. But when things go bad, you end up with situations like this.
