So this question was brought up on Inside the NFL tonight. It's that segment in which Collinsworth asks a question and Marino and Carter face off and debate the answer.

The question were phrased as if you were a GM, and it was basically would you rather have Vince Young or Michael Vick on your franchise?

Marino and Carter happened to agree on this particular question - they both said Vince Young. I was just curious as to what the SP thought of this question.

Might not be a good time to ask with Young coming off of his best game as a pro. Let's see if he can sustain, something that Vick has been unable to do.

While I think Young will have a sort of career that is comparable to McNair's, I do think he is the guy I'd want over Vick in a big game. In other words, I think Young will be a solid, servicable NFL QB, but he won't be the kind of QB that can carry a team. Vick just doesn't fit. I think Mora senior was right.... he's a coach killer. Young appears to have stronger leadership qualities, is a better passer, and while not as dangerous as Vick running the ball, is still a serious threat to run that has to be game planned for.

Having the NFL ticket is a wonderful thing. I've had the opportunity to see both of these guys quite a bit, and for my money, if his receivers could hold onto the freaking ball Michael Vick might be the MVP of this league. His WR's and TE have had some devistating drops this season, just absolute game changers.

I like Young quite a bit, and he will be a fine pro. Young already seems to have a better grasp of the position, but he just doesn't have the rocket arm or dynamic running ability of Vick.

If it were a cold weather game I'd take Vince Young without a moments regret.

I ultimately chose Vick in the poll because he's just freaking Godzilla talent-wise.

It would be interesting to see how this conversation would have gone last week. Or if vick wouldnt have just flipped the bird. I bet if this was 4 weeks ago when everybody thought vick had turned the corner, and Young would have had this game it would be more of a 50/50 split.

Point is a few weeks doesnt make that much of a difference in a career.

I voted for vick because his athletic ability is insane. I have always felt if Vick was turned loose for a 4-5 game stretch he would be unstoppable. He would inevitably get hurt and possibly end his career which is of course why you could never do that, but man he would be fun to see run wild.

I think we know what we have in Vick, butr Young still has a shot at being a real QB. I'd take Young on potential alone.

I think that Vick is a better qb than many people give him credit for around here.

BUT, I see something in VY that I really like...kinda the "it" that everybody talks about when discussing the best qb's. He just seems like a winner. Sure, he's got good athletic ability and can make all the throws, but it's that ability to make the big play when it really counts and his demeanor in the huddle that will make him better than Vick.

He's 4-4 as a starter this year after the team started 0-3. I didn't think they would win 4 games all year, and I know it hasn't been all VY (or even close to that) but the way he seems to lead his team is impressive.

I thought that most fans wold choose Young, but I am quite suprised at the margin he is crushing Vick by.

I picked Young as well.

He's more of a QB.

Vick really has the potential to be a great QB, but to me, it just seems like his attitude over his learning curve almost is too much to deal with.

Now, make no mistake, if you ask this question as "if you're the owner of an NFL team...." It's Vick by miles and miles.

I totally disagree. Vick is more of a sideshow,,stlye over substance. When Young is in his 6th season as Vick is he will be a superior NFL QB.

I'm surprised by all your answers. Michael Vick even when he has a bad week, and lets face it the past couple have not been that good from a fantasy perspective, still score atleast 15 points. NO OTHER QB can do this when he has a bad week. Vick is still a top QB - hopefully he can bring back that pitts game today vs. washington. He is bar none my favorite player in the game and I look for him to rebound the rest of the season.

i think you are missing the point of this thread. we're not talking about fantasy value here...we are discussing on the field play. those 2 things are not the same.

Vince Young has Norm Chow (great QB coach)... Vick has Greg Knapp. Vick would be better off with a mind like Chow.

My thoughts exactly. Vick also showed flashes of brilliance his rookie season, but has regressed. I think Vick is in far better hands, and has a far better attitude, but in the end it comes down to the player commiting to getting better and improving on his weaknesses. Vick has never made that commitment. The jury is way, way out on Young, but I will say the early returns look pretty promising, much stronger than I expected him to look this season.

I just don't think you need a rocket arm, or dynamic running ability to play QB in the NFL. Vick has both, and he has complete just over 50% of his passes. Romo's receivers drop timely passes all the time too, but he just comes back and puts another one on the spot. He doesn't have the rocket arm, or dynamic running ability either. Playing QB is about making plays consistently. You're going to see drops. That's football. You can't be accurate 50% of the time and whine because they drop it when you're on the spot. That's Vicks problem. He's inaccurate too much. So what if you have a rocket arm if you can't control it. Look at Randy Johnsons first 3 or four years in the majors, he was nothing. He worked hard, got control, and became dominant around 93. Having that great arm is great if he can harness it, and he hasn't done that. Vince Young has more than enough arm strength and speed to play in the NFL. Neither is going to hinder him. Vick's had about six years, and has regressed. They've got ample talent around him, and a far better passer that they wont let play. Mora's dad was right. Vick is a tease. He'll win you games against bad defenses with his running ability. But, in the playoffs, he'll be stopped. They ran the ball early against good teams, but their running game has slowed dramatically, because they know that he's a minimal threat to pass. Young on the other hand has lifted a team that looked like one of the worst in the league. If they were in the NFC, they'd be surging toward a division title, but they're in the AFC, and pretty much dead.

Great fantasy player. Not great NFL player. His running abillity and focal point of their offense makes him great for the fantasy owner. He rarely has bad weeks. But, Arthur Blank doesn't care about your fantasy team. He owns the Falcons, and employs Mr. Vick to win Lombardis, and he's getting further away, not closer. Vicks getting worse, not better, as an NFL QB. I've never said Vick doesn't belong on the field, because I've repeatedly said that he does. He's incredible. Find a way to utilize him. But, he's hurting the team by playing QB.

This one isn't even close to me. I'd take Vick in a heartbeat. He is faster and a better passer than VY.

I'd want to move him to RB ala Reggie Bush, but I'd want him nonetheless.
