Sounds great to me. I picked him up in 2 of my 4 money leagues with the hopes of this happening. This works out perfect for him to go to the Vikings. Bye in week 4... that will give him time to get there... get some good practice in... and actually have just about as much chemistry with Favre as any other receiver onthe team.

AJ is going to stand by his guns, so unless Minny or STL ponies up, plus pay Vjax a deal isnt happening

He'd likely have to sit out until Week 5 (if the new team had a Week 4 bye) in order to be deemed to have served a 4 game suspencion.

Yep.If he ends up in Minny, week 6 would be the earliest he could play. The way I read it anyways.

I know, that's what I was counting on. That would work perfect, in my eyes. I wouldn't start him on my roster in week 5 anyways. Waiting until week 6... and then having him on my roster... on the Vikings... from week 6 on with no bye weeks and having plenty of time to work with Favre is perfect for what I need him for.

I fully expect the deal with the Vikes to get done now. Sure the Vikes would like to have him for the Jets game week 5, but he likely wouldn't have been a factor anyway.

But the Chargers would still need to find an acceptable deal, and VJax would need enough $$ to make any trade happen. I'm not counting on him playing soon.
I don't think you realize the grip that Favre has on Minnesota's short and curlies. I'd be surprised if VJax is not a Viking by EOB tomorrow. My vain hope is that the Bears cut some dead weight and snake him from them but then they would have to actually acknowledge that WR is an important position. They've never done that in their entire history.

If he was smart, he would go to the Rams and be part of their rebuilding. Having Bradford as your QB should make him a pro bowl WR for many years. The Rams aren't too far away from being legit. You'd be surprised how much a few players can make a difference. Their past couple drafts have been very good.

Vincent Jackson to only miss four games if traded

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 16, 2010 1:56 PM ET

A potential trade of Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson just got easier.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that Jackson will only miss four games at the start of the 2010 season, should he get traded anytime soon. (Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune also has the news.) Jackson remains suspended three games by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Jackson was also set to miss an additional three games after he reported to a team because he was placed on the Chargers roster exempt list. But the NFL and NFLPA met Thursday and came up a compromise for Jackson's missed time should be traded.

If Jackson signed with the Chargers, he would still have to miss an additional three games. (Six total.) That makes the small chance he'd return to San Diego look even slimmer. Jackson seems likely to get traded or simply sit the year out.

The Vikings appear to be Jackson's most likely suitor, although the Rams have been linked to him previously as well.

I never thought the Vikings would be the team to Steinbrennerize the NFL in an uncapped year. If they've got the resources to do that, can we at least cut them off from that 8 million dollars in revenue sharing they get every year? :goodposting:

Or go to a super bowl contender like Minny for a stint and then sign with the Rams later.

My question, is if the Vikings and Chargers work out a deal, and don't execute the trade until after the 4th week of the season, does this mean that Jackson could play week 5 for the Vikings? He would miss 4 games with the Chargers, even though the Vikings had only played 3 games.

The Union-Tribune reports that three teams have been given official permission to speak to Jackson's agents and that Seattle and St. Louis are two of them. It's believed the Vikings are the third.

It's been rumored the Vikings might have been the unknown team that had a one-year deal for $7 million plus incentives worked out with Jackson on Sept. 4. That fell apart because the Chargers and the unknown team could not reach an agreement on compensation. The Vikings made a call about Jackson in August but lost interest at that time because of his asking price for a long-term deal.

If both the Vikings and Rams offer the same round pick, you'd have to think the Chargers would take the Rams deal.

As a VJ dynasty owner, I definitely prefer St. Louis. Bradford is legit and has no weapons, while Favre is gone soon and Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin will be getting touches.

I actually like him to go to the Vikings for 1 year. The draw is that he could be plugged in immediately with a HoF QB and a team with a Super Bowl chance. What better stage to show your skills than the post season? My draft is looking great with 2 bolts out of the blue with my paired Jackson picks late in the draft. :porked:

Jackson could play in fifth game

BY KEVIN ACEE

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2010 AT 10:39 A.M.

Vincent Jackson could play as soon as the fifth week of the season -- for a team besides the Chargers.

The NFL and the players' union reached a settlement Thursday that clears the way for Jackson to play in the fifth game for any team he is traded to.

It is believed -- and certainly the hope of Jackson's agents -- that this ruling could help pave the way for a trade.

Jackson is currently serving a three-game suspension as a result of his two DUI arrests. He is also on the Roster Exempt List and will miss at least six games if he remains with the Chargers.

Three teams have been given official permission to speak to Jackson's agents. Seattle and St. Louis are two, and it is believed Minnesota is the third. The Vikings were interested last month but balked at the high asking price from Jackson.

It is not known if any or all of those team are still interested in Jackson. Furthermore, it is certain that any trade will be done on the Chargers' terms.

Jackson's agents said on Sept. 5 that the Chargers stymied a trade with an unidentified team. The agents said they had a contract done with another team, which was believed to be one year and $7 million plus incentives.

ok let me play devils advocate here a minute.

#1 - I know AJ smith isnt going to budge on what he wants and might actually screw with Vjax

#2 - if the Rams,Seawaks and Vikings all couldnt get a deal done before Sept 4th (when he would only miss 3 games), what is the motivation to get one done now he is still going to miss 3 games?

My GUESS is that he would have missed four games since he was a Charger and eligible to play in Minnesota's fourth game (fifth week of the season) if he was traded mid-week.But I also THINK that the Vikings would prefer to get him earlier, have the bye week to learn the offense and develop some rapport, and then miss one game while still developing familiarity with the system. That way he wouldn't be eligible to play until their fifth game, but he would have been there for a few weeks getting in game shape.

Well for the Vikes and Rams, the motivation would be the cold splashes of water they took in week 1 when their receivers looked terrible.

Jason LaCanfora with some additional info:

If Jackson signs a contract with SD and is traded by 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Wed Sept 22, he will be placed on the Commissioner Exempt list for three games, retroactive to game two. So if Jackson is traded by the Sept 22 deadline, he can play in new club's 5th game.

If Jackson is not traded by Sept 22, he will serve the remainder of his 3 game susp and be placed on roster exempt regardless of future trade.

A moratorium will be in effect from now until 4pm ESt Sept. 17. During the moratorium, any club must receive advance permission from SD to talk to Jackson. No trade for Jackson can become official until after this Sept. 17 moratorium is lifted.

If Jackson traded before Sept 22, he can report to new club and practice w/ them following their 4th game. Can't play or get $$ til 5th game

Vincent Jackson must be traded in a window from 4:00 p.m. Friday to 4:00 p.m. next Wednesday, Sept. 22, to be eligible to play in Week 5.

Between now and Friday afternoon, interested teams must receive advanced permission from the Chargers to talk to Jackson about a long-term deal. As long as V-Jax is traded by next Wednesday, he can practice with his new team after the Week 4 game and play in Week 5.

The Vikings would be obvious. The receivers looked really bad in their game. It was quite apparent that nobody on that roster right now with Sidney Rice hurt is a #1 receiver. Also, Harvin is now dealing with another injury issue... I think that they are the obvious choice and it makes sense considering that they are clearly shooting for the Super Bowl this year.

Does he have to serve a 4 game suspension once he signs, or has the clock already started to run on the suspension?
He has a 3 game suspension from the leagueThe other 3 game suspension due to the roster exempt list or whatever its called has been negotiated down. But it looks like there is a trade window.Im sure that SD isnt going to take less than a 2nd rounder for him. Ante up Ziggy

he ain't gonna come cheap and there is no reason he should......AJ is not the #### here.....VJ put himself in this situation.....AJ has very little motivation to help any team get better (NFC or AFC).......unless he gets what he considers fair market value, it is in SD best interest "this year" to just let him sit the whole year.....why trade him to the Vikings just to get something only to maybe have to gameplan against him in a Super Bowl......bottom line....VJ is available, but it ain't gonna be at a huge discount........

This is important because it now allows the possibility that he could be traded. If the decision went the other way he definitely would not have been traded. It's certainly no guarantee he gets moved somewhere, but at least now there is a nonzero chance it happens.

Hard to guage his value without knowing where he will land, but I think now is the time to acquire him if you are going to do so.

I am considering offering the VJax owner Maclin and see if he bites.

Not sure why everyone thinks Minny should be so desperate for his services.

They brought in Camarillo who is an excellent posession receiver and will get more snaps going forward. They have the big play threat in Harvin. Berrian is meh at best. But they have another of Favres favorite targets in Shiancoe. Oh...and that guy named Adrian Peterson. And they still have Rice.

Rams on the other hand ARE desperate for a WR. However, they know they aren't gonna compete for anything this year. They may wait things out and see what happens at the end of the season. Not sure the Rams ownership would be willing to shell out dough AND picks for a WR that doesn't make the best choices when they have a lot of other holes to fill.

The Chargers are going to demand a high draft pick and VJ wants a big salary. The eligibility issue is a step, but it really seems like a small one in the grand scheme of things.

I haven't read things that closely, but with this suspension can he practice and just not play games or does he have to stay away from the team?

I sold Maclin for VJax last week so you have a good shot. But his value jumped a bit with this news and Maclin a slight decrease with Kolb out.

Maybe San Diego should concentrate on beating crappy teams coming off four-win seasons before they get too concerned with who they're going to face in the Super Bowl.

From what I've read, Vjax wouldn't be able to be with any team in any capacity until the suspension is over.

During the suspension, he has to stay away from the team.Normally, during the roster-exemption, he'd be able to practice. But according to the initial reports of the settlement (involving switching from a roster-exemption to a commissioner-exemption), part of the deal is that he wouldn't be able to practice until after the fourth game of the team that trades for him.

Yes. The situation is more favorable to a trade today than it was yesterday, but still less favorable than it was before September 4 — and it didn't happen then.

I was just reading some stuff on the Vikings Star Trib site and found this.
Among the interesting things about the below statement from the NFL is that there is now a moratorium that will be in effect until 3 p.m. (Twin Cities time) on Friday. San Diego may not trade Jackson until after the moratorium has expired. As for when he can practice, Jackson would be eligible to practice during the Vikings' bye week after the third game and in the week prior to the Vikings game against the Jets in Week 5. He could not, however, play against the Jets.

I assume when you wrote this you realized full well that N.O. just won the superbowl after losing at home to a 3-win team?

... and if you believe some rumors VJ and his agents had worked out a financial deal with one team in the 11th hour, but there wasn't enough time for SD and that team to reach an agreement on compensation. Just depends on which rumors your believe. Earlier that day there was a rumor that SD was desperate to unload him and they'd accept almost anything for him. As a Charger fan I'm hoping they are not in a big hurry to trade him. Why would they?
