Vinyl Records Guys (1 Viewer)

Yes. Like in Santa Monica or Venice or Hollywood. Likely some store out there that are within driving distance from the IE.

Sure. I can think of two good ones that I know of and have been to. Problem is that it's an hour and forty-five or so, and there's no way you're getting me to go that far on a weekend for Metal Machine Music, which would most likely subsequently warp in the heat on the way back.

I'm exaggerating. I'm old and it's too far for these creaking bones.

Fire up the high speed train, amiright?

Hey,

When is Vinyl Record day this year?

TIA
I'm holding out hope for 8-track Day in the near future.
Invented by William Powell Lear, of Lear jet fame.

My first stereo system had a built in 8 track recorder. What a pain to record on, after that recording on cassettes seemed easy. They quit making the recorders soon after I bought mine.
The most aggravating thing about 8-tracks was the inability to rewind/go back to previous songs or within songs.

Yes, and even worse if you were trying to record on them and flubbed the beginning. Had to fast forward thru the whole damn track to get back to your spot.

I wish I still had some of my tapes, including Blondie's first album.

Record Store Day is April 12th
What's on the menu?

:oldunsure:

Here’s the list in alphabetical order. Bro, Google? It’s your friend.

Some really interesting releases there coming out. I'm essentially a dumpster diver though (read: cheap) when purchasing vinyl.

I'm the opposite. Don't like the cooties from old smelly vinyl and jackets.

You can send me these then. As long as you pay shipping to Geneva.

TL/DR
I bought a few records today and I’m gonna listen to them tonight with my wife

Longer version

As predicted, the record player we purchased for our youngest daughter a few years ago appeared in the linen closet floor, making way for clothes most likely.

Wife is always clamoring about me spending time with her while she cooks dinner like I’m some kind of Don Juan. So because I love this woman immensely, I suggested that we start a new habit/tradition of choosing/listening to a “new” record to play while cook together.

Picked up an eclectic mix today (ETA - I purchased them at the local antique toy store, which is actually phenomenal but records aren’t their forte so the pickings were slim)

Alabama, the hollies’s, beach boys, Linda  , dire Straits, Gloria Estefan, the cars, and U2.

Not exactly new but we gotta get through some of the classics

Slow to find this thread and my vinyl is going to be mostly focused on dance beats from the lates 80s thru the late 90s although lately we have been diving into more underground dance from the 2000s with certain years that pop out like '01, '04 and then 2010, 2012, 2014, these years seem to come up a lot on used vinyl we pick up.

DJ Taimur who really is a NYC DJ and was a huge part of the BLK Market parties in the 2000s up there.
Taimur has an exclusive underground record store in Miami and I will give you the address, 212(NYC area code) Miami Ave
Try knocking but you likely won't get in, there's a camera and it's like entering a diamond/jewelry store, they don't know you then you're not getting in
There are lots of new records but there are lots of used vinyl tracks as well. About once every month or two, Mrs and I will roll in there and we spend hours just sifting thru dance music

Technique Records is another wonderful Miami shop and very accessible 880 NE 79th St in Miami and its not far from a terrific little section along Biscayne Blvd
If you venture into Miami then you should make an effort to slide into "Mad Radio" at the GoldDust Motel, they have a bar and in the corner they have 1200s set up, very small venue
if you really want to get your head spun, skip Space and go to Floyd which sits basically underneath Space and that's where the real DJs spin.
