W7 Game Thread - Washington v Indianapolis (1 Viewer)

Can someone tell me wtf the deal is w/Portis.....all I heard from these great announcers is "shaken up"
Last I saw it was a lower leg bruise. He got it stuck under a pile or something.
thxfn pansy, get your wig-wearing ahrse back in there
They did let him have another carry or so after the knee to the calf. Portis wanted back in, but they held him out. Somebody else thought that with the game out of hand, they weren't going to risk further injury to him & that's probably right.

I can understand them going with Betts in the hurry up offence but you still need your best player on the field at some point. They refuse to deviate from the game plan and its costing them
I'd much rather have Portis in, during the 2 minute offense than Betts. Stupid to take out one of your most explosive players when running the 2 minute offense.I'm thinking if Saunders is not going to use him properly, the Skins might as well trade him next year.

Saunders is hideously overrated and also a moron. He insists on a "balanced" offense when this team is clearly built for a heavily run-oriented attack...plus playing sucky Colts' run D etc etc.

:goodposting: I think Saunders has something to add to this team, but he so far has failed to recognize what you pointed out, namely that this offense needs to flow through its RB's and Portis in particular. It also fits the personality of the o-line. It's clear that they can't run a pass-first offense with Mark Brunell leading them.

Betts is quite good. Very Chester Taylor like. Would start on a number of teams.
However, Betts is not in the same class as Portis.
No, Portis is a top 3 RB talent wise.
I agree regarding Betts. He's no stud, but he's certainly good enough to start in the right situation, like Lamont Jordan or, as you said, Chester Taylor. The problem is that there are lots of guys in the league with that amount of skill level, and there are very few teams on the market for such guys who don't either already have such a guy on their roster or who aren't in line to sign a veteran FA stud (e.g. Edge), or to draft a rookie stud (e.g. Peterson).

Why wasn't Campbell in this game? I mean 2-5, with nothing to play for. Time to prep for next year. Given the bye week, it's a definite that Campbell starts.

At least Brunell's last 2 passes in the NFL were for a TD and a 2pt conversion. I always lked him in Jax, just not under Gibbs.

Frankly, I would have put him into the game with 4 mins left when Aikman mentioned it. I was already thinking about it and stayed with the game simply to see if he played. Trying to climb inside Gibbs' head for a second though, I'd attribute it to two things. First, putting Campbell into the game immediately subjects the team to two full weeks (bye in week 8) of media speculation about Brunell's status. Gibbs, who has been through those wars before in Washington, didn't want to invite that in exchange for a couple of minutes of experience for Campbell. Not a decision I would make, but whatever, and I certainly don't have Gibbs' pedigree so I doubt he much cares what I would do there. Second, I think Gibbs wants Campbell to get a full week of first team snaps before he plays him. I think that that's babying him a bit too much, but it's that sentiment you will recall that has Collins second in line to replace Brunell if he went down during a game, but Campbell second in line if Brunell can't start a game.

Addai looks like a stud. Has he been playing this well the whole season?
Not that well, but he was averaging 4.6 yards/carry before today's game - and has been better than Rhodes all of the regular season.

I haven't closely followed the Colts this year, but I will say that Addai looked far more explosive and "active" than Rhodes did running the ball.

Replacing Ryan Clark with Adam Archuleta was a big mistake.

Not making this a run-first team is a big mistake.

Sticking with Brunell after the bye week will be a big mistake. Jason Campbell should start the 2007 season with 9 games under his belt, not 0 games.

Al Saunders's playcalling is bad. And I don't know if Gibbs has the authority to do anything about it.
