An RM candidate would know this already. You can log into the airline web site and get your own seat assignments, even if someone else buys the ticket. When you become RM you can pay to upgrade to coach seats with more leg space. When you become a VP, you might get elite status and can fly first class. Enjoy the ride to RM.

Seriously, you can join any airline's loyalty program for free. Regardless of who buys the ticket the miles get credited to the person flying. Just make sure your loyalty membship number is on the reservation. You can log into your account and select your seat assignment. Better seats will be reserved for those with higher status. Generally there are about three elite statuses that you can obtain depending on how many flight/miles/dollars you incur during the year. You can redeem the miles you earn on free tickets. American is going to be the largest in the DFW area. SW, United and Delta are going to be popular also. Good luck
