Waiver Wire Defense Week 10 (1 Viewer)

Slim pickings this week, but those of us who have no set defense and have to dip back to the wire.

Here's some available on the wire:

NYG at SF, recently dropped presumably because of their matchup with the Pats. The G-Men haven't had a bad week this season with a low of 8 points and a high of 16 points. The matchup isn't ideal on the road against the red hot Niners, but if you could bank on their floor, that could get it done in fantasy.

DEN at KC, Which Todd Haley team shows up this week? If it's anything like the sloppy mess that got blown out against Miami, you could take this gamble. A what-the-heck play for Tebow owners to double up on points. Do you feel lucky?

NEP at NYJ, This looks like it will be a low scoring defensive struggle. I'll take the under in this one. Just a guess, but the Pats might be a decent play here.

MIA vs WAS, Last week blew out the Chefs on the road. Washington is a mess with Beck as the their QB and no S. Moss.

ETA: Jacksonville at Indy is looking like the runaway favorite and not in my OP. They are taken in my league :kicksrock:

Jacksonville @ Indy. It worked for me this week with Atlanta Def, plus the defense playing Indy has posted double digit fantasy points in every week as far back as I looked, which was the last three or four weeks.

Rams vs. the Browns might not be bad.
Looking hard at this one. Biggest downside is that although they score fewer than 15 a game, have garbage healthy at RB, and give up just under 3 sacks a game, the Browns aren't turnover machines. McCoy has only thrown 6 picks this year.

I'm going with the Rams if I can get them. I think Jacksonville will be the backup choice, as they have been pretty good this season. I was so happy with myself for getting the Chiefs last week, knowing that they would be playing the Broncos this week. How quickly opinions change...

I like Mia 1st, they put a lot of pressure on Cassel last week ans the Redskins already suck.

then i like STL. they played solid against NO and not so bad last week and the Browns suck but not many turnovers.

then JAX. IND sucks plain and simple. oh and they didnt to bad against better teams like BAL and HOU recently...

:football:

I'm thinking CLE for the next two weeks.

Week 10 STL @ CLE

Week 11 JAX @ CLE

STL - most sacks given up this season (31)

JAX - 8th most sacks given up (22)

Could be Bradford's first game back for STL. Gabbert has a completion rating of 45.7%

Texans or Jax?

I picked up the rams because of their nice schedule ahead. At this point I'll be happy with even 1 or 2 points from a defense. The defense by committee has been my Achilles heel

You've been following Joffer's advice?Joffer, your presense is requested in the waiver wire defense thread. TIA.

Rams defense is decent and Cleveland is not very good offensively. For leagues that reward low yardage, this is a good pick.

Good point. I just switched over to Cleveland because they're at home. Hopefully we'll hear from Joffer soon

I don't know about Jacksonville. Colts are really bad, but so are the Jaguars, and they really haven't shown much on defense all year. Might still be a 1-sack, 1-turnover game for them, even if they keep Indy to 10-14 points.

I agree. I've seen enough JAC and INDY games to see where this could happen.

The Jags probably will depend on the scoring system. If you get good point for holding a team to 14 or less this is probably a solid play. They face another bad offense next week too.

Here is my order:

Rams - Clev is really bad. No RB. No WRs.

Jags - Indy is really awful. The only drawback is that the Jags O is terrible. Indy could end up with good field position.

Clev - This D is good and the Rams give up tons of sacks. I do expect the Rams to move the ball and score about 20. The scoring system really determines the order this week.

I picked up KC in both leagues last week to use for 2 weeks. That was a terrible move. Since I dropped KC in both leagues this week, there is a strong possibility that KC dominate Denver!

Rams D is undervalued. Their 1st half schedule was brutal, and they lost Bradford and SJax for extended periods. Remember this is a team most people picked to win their division.

Okay, I'm stuck between Rams and Jags. I'm in the ESPN system so lower scoring is where most of our points come from.

We only get 1 point for sacks, 2 for INTs/Fumbles. Most points are from limited scoring.

Rams--Cleveland has the worst offense in the league I think. They can't run, can't throw, and the plays are so predictable. Cleveland won't score over 14 I'm sure. Rams have a good offense. Cleveland has given up the most double digit points to defenses in my league (outside of the Rams). Also, Cleveland isn't scoring TDs outside of a two Cribbs TD catches in the last 3 weeks. Everything is coming from Dawson who is nailing some awesome 50 yd FGs.

Cons: Rams have some serious issues at the DB position (can McCoy take advantage?). I think Cleveland is gonna have to throw a lot to catch up and the Rams suck at defending the pass--they have been better lately.

Jags--

Pros: the Colts are about as bad as Cleveland. The difference is that outside of the qb position. They have some serious talent. Their D is awful too. Qb position is in flux b/t Painter and Orlavksy. Last week TD came from the defense lol. The other TDs of the last 3 weeks have come sometime late in the second half. Also, the Jags can run. So less time for the Colts to do anything with the ball. Gabbert probably will look better after the bye week.

Cons: Jags have an inept offense also. The D doesn't get a lot of sacks or INTs.

I'm leaning towards the Jags but honestly I'm torn.

Thoughts?

Miami this week, followed by St Louis. I don't even have a dog in this fight as I have DET and SF. Actually DET the way the Bears are playing might need a sub.

The joffer curse is over!!

Great defensive game by the Jags today. There is still a chance for a garbage time score by Indy, but Jacksonville should have put up good point in most scoring formats.

19 points in my league.

Edit: I see that he didn't mention them in this thread, but he did say he was using the Jags in another one.
