Waiver wire defenses (1 Viewer)

How good are the Cardinals this year? How about the Panthers? I thought Carolina would come along and they seemed to do well enough to beat San Diego. I didnt get to see the games so all I can do is read about these teams.

Any other waiver wire D's worth looking into? Chiefs didnt look too bad this week against the Pats, although Brady wasnt around.

If you're willing to gamble a little on one of the non-traditional Ds, the key becomes their matchups IMO. Here are a few listed with the number of top 10 offenses and bottom 10 offenses:

Chiefs: Bad Offenses: 7 / Best Offenses: 3 (one being NE)

Cardinals: Bad Offenses: 7 / Best Offenses: 3

Denver: Bad Offenses: 6 / Best Offenses: 5 (3 good are weeks 14-16)

Eagles: Bad Offenses: 5 / Best Offenses: 4

Jets: Bad Offenses: 6 / Best Offenses: 4 (2 in weeks 14-16)

Panthers: Bad Offenses: 5 / Best Offenses: 4

Among the defenses towards the bottom half, these are the ones that I think have the best matchups. You shouldn't base everything off of this, but it's a good coin-flipper since anyone that plays against STL, KC, OAK, etc. is going to score better.

Good list Natron.I've read that the Cardinals have been getting better on D. I know the Panthers looked great in the offseason and should have a nasty defensive line. And the Chiefs are supposed to have a pretty good secondary this year, building off a decent backfield last season. That's all pretty generic though.Interested if anyone's got more thoughts on this.

I was just looking at my WW, Buffalo and Cards had very good weeks. I'm low on WW and think Bills won't be there for me but may gamble on Cards.

We get 1pt for 20yds on returns so that's another factor to consider if your awarded return yds too.

Anyone have any insight into Cards D this year? If I recall, last year they had trouble stopping the run.

I like the Panthers as my #2 DST. They have the talent and traditionally are defense-oriented. Rivers tore it up against them, true, but I see potential for a solid season.

Not totally sold on the Cards but given the good vs bad offense analysis above, they might be worth a look. The Niners were able to put some yards on them tho.

Trying to get the Bills. A guy said he's gonna drop his D (Seattle) and pick up another, probably Bills since they scored the most pts last week.

Is Seattle still solid? They got there butts handed to them last week. A potential pickup?

I like the Chiefs this week and next week. If the Bills are there grab them fast.
I had a mid-level waiver pick and was able to snare the Bills. Panthers are a good option IMO. Cards, Bucs, and Broncos are viable options and available in a lot of leagues. Also agree on the Chiefs, especially this week @ home against Oakland.

I like the bad offenses/best offenses counts as a means of getting a general feel for how valuable a given defense might be to your roster down the stretch. I would suggest though that you also take into account the potency of the team's offense, since the more time they spend on the field, the less time the defense does. With that in mind, a defense like the Chiefs is likely to be somewhat less valuable than the bad/best counts suggest, while the defenses for teams like the Broncos and Eagles are probably somewhat more useful.

Only start SEA D at home and you'll be alright.

FWIW, im keeping them for at least one more week. dont forget that they surrendered 2 special teams TDs, and got down early pretty quickly.theyve got the personnel to do good things on D, and up against the niners, they should get at least 1/2 dozen sacks & int. combined. plus, as aformentioned, theyre at home. i myself am cautiously optimistic, but theres nothing out there in my leagues, and i had seattle ranked relatively high going into the year. not ready to throw all that out after 1 week.-biz-

I think it'd be worth your while to try and trade for the Titans D. I think they'll be the best this year and generally Ds aren't hard to trade for.
