Walk off (1 Viewer)

I keep hearing the term "walk off hit" this year. How can you have a walk off hit?? I always thought that a walk off had to be a home run hit out of the park - thus the hitter can just "walk off" the bases. If you get a hit, you have to run to first at the very least.

the term walk off comes from the fact that the opposing team walks off the field. It can be used for hits as well as hrs

Even if you hit a HR to win the game you still have to run the bases.A walk-off hit is the same thing.

Technically you don't if the winning run scores before the batter crosses the plate. All you have to do is run to first base I believe. You would only be credited with a single or however far around the bases the batter chose to go. Now I can't imagine the batter ever just giving up in the middle of a home run trot, so it's a bit hypothetical for reality.
