Wall mounted TV - where/how to hide the massive cable box? (1 Viewer)

Remodeling the first floor and I'm wall mounting all the TVs. Where and how can I hide the cable boxes?

I had this issue in the bedroom. We have a TV on the wall and needed to hide the box. We have a rug, so I ran the cables down to the floor, underneath the rug, and ultimately to the box under the bed. Put an RF extender behind the TV like this and next to the box under the bed:

For our old house, I put a TV stand/credenza below the TV. Placed receiver in the credenza. Got a few grommets from Office Depot. Cut a hole and put one grommet behind the TV and the other behind the credenza. I ran the wires through the wall so you couldn't see them.

On our new house, I centrally located all the receivers to the basement and used CAT5/6 (network cable) to HDMI converters. All I needed behind the TV was a network cable. The video/sound/IR goes through the network cable and is converted on either end with a box. It works great.

I don't know about the closed door, the 15 feet won't be an issue though.

Run Cat 5/6 lines and an ethernet line behind Sheetrock and between studs. Power outlets at bottom of wall and up on the wall behind where TV will go.

Switch to DTV and get the wireless Genie boxes. They ziptie them behind the TV screen.

Dish isn't wireless, but I have the hopper and for my screened porch TV, I have their tiny box velcroed to the back of the TV. I already have the plug for the TV and the cable run near the floor, so I couldn't hide it all if I tried, but it is basically just the TV with no "box" anywhere visible. I can even push the TV all the way back into the mount since the box is so small.

FYI - Many DirecTV remotes/boxes have RF capability built-in. Look at the model number of your remote and see if it ends in R. If it does, you can use that remote and the box via RF. There are instructions online for how to set up your box and the remote. It's quite easy.

In my bedroom, I ran the wires behind the wall, then put the box under my dresser out of sight and switched to RF mode. Works great.

The ones I used were professional grade. I got them direct from an AV company. You could call a few local places and ask if they will sell you one. They aren't cheap. I paid around $400 I think. You get what you pay for. I tried a cheap one first and it didn't work. I used these to run video/audio in cat5/e/6 and then convert to hdmi at each end

All my dtv receivers in my basement and then a wall plate to convert hdmi to the dual cat6 run and then a wall plate to convert back to hdmi in the room.
