wannabee Strategy Thread (6 Viewers)

i have both jay cutler and matt ryan. i was thinking of trading cutler for vincent jackson.

if i do this, my wr core will be: boldin, desean jackson, and vincent jackson.

i play in a 12-team ppr. i guess what im asking is, do you think that ryan is a better fantasy qb then cutler? or should i hold onto cutler as insurance.

my other wr are: sims-walker, walter and pierre garcon

Hey Jeff,

I dropped John Carney due to his bye this week. I was going to pick him back up but I am concerned about Garrett Hartley. He has been suspended for the first 4 weeks but is back on the team starting week 6. I read that the Saints were going to keep them both. So, do I just stay pat with David Akers and avoid the whole Saints multiple kicker drama or what???

I like Carney a lot and her has scored me plenty of points! Plus, I cannot deny I'm a homer and like having a Saints player on my team.

Set me on the right path here and tell me if you heard what I did and what is the smart move here.

Thanks!

hi jeff. would you give witten for portis. non-ppr redraft league. i have no other te, so i will have to look to waiver wire. i have lt, kev.smith , grant, m.bell and leon.w at rb we can start 3 rbs
I would keep witten. I know portis scored, but he is not gaining any yardage and the TDs are fluky in washington

Cutler and Ryan are very close and so the choice is difficult. I think I would make that move with either passer. I would still work MSW into the rotation on good matchups, but the move will help you many weeks.

go with carney. He should be a good option most weeks. If something happens to him, you can grab another kicker.

Jeff,

I want to get your opinion on this team? I'm not off tho a great start, although I have been toward the top in scoring in this league. Pretty standard Scoring linup: Qb,2 rb, 1rb/wr,2wr,te,k, def I usually start 3 of the rb's. redraft

Rivers

Garrard

Jackson,Thomas,Slaton,Benson,Coffee,Washington,Harrison

Ocho,

Jennings

Massaquoi,

Crayton

Carson

Scobee....but hope get another kicker..///Kaeding and Carney on wire....some others

Hi Jeff, PPR redraft here. Made a trade but still major problems at RB (I think) with an overloaded WR group.

Currently have:

Moss

AJ

Roddy White

MSW

SSmith (nyg)

Desean Jackson

and

Hightower

Ray Rice

TChoice

FJones

Start 3 WRs, 2 RBs PPR.

Which WR should I target to deal away and for what type of RB? With Beanie cutting into Hightower's time a bit, I'm getting slightly worried. As far as the WRs, part of me really likes the idea of starting S.Smith instead of Roddy (and selling high on Roddy.) Also, although an avid Eagles fan, not a huge fan of Desean in fantasy. I feel like his perceived value is very low though in my league. But with that said I'm up for your thoughts.

Also, not too many guys in my league trade. RBs that seem to be somewhat available are:

S.Jackson

R.Brown

K.Moreno

B.Wells

R.Bush (he loves the guy though...won't ever deal him)

M.Lynch

M.Forte

R.Williams

L.Washington

R.Mendenhall

R.Grant

J.Stewart

Donald Brown

Thoughts? I could sit tight for a little, I think I have a winnable game for each of the next two weeks. However, if Beanie does cut into Hightowers time significantly, I would've wished I had traded someone like DJax for him (I really doubt I'll ever be starting Desean..)

One more comment: Knowshon owner already denied me long ago for a trade with Desean Jackson. But the way the convo went, I'd assume he'd do a deal with Roddy.

I think it is a good team. Always disappointing when you score well and lose. Also, having SJax disappoint hurts. You are very strong at RB, and could use a better WR3/4. I might see if you can move Jackson for a good WR, even MSW or Hines Ward type. I would dump Scobbe and pick up either of those kickers. Overall, it is a good team.

Since it is a redraft league, I might see if Moss would get you a top RB like Forte, MJD, etc. I continue to think Hightower is safe. Wells is decent, but not great ... plus he has a problem with fumbles. I think Moss is worth more than any RB on the list, but I would target Forte, Mendenhall, Grant, and Ronnie Brown off the list. I still am not enamored with Moreno. Any of these four (assuming Mendenhall can keep the job which is not a gimme), would help you considerably. And, you are deep enough at WR not to be hurt. Also, I would look at not starting AJ this week vs Cincy. They are great in defending WR1s.

Great Jeff, thanks so much. Now, lets say we are looking at:Forte, Mendenhall, Grant and Ronnie Brown. Are these the appropriate WRs to trade for them respectively?Moss, Desean, Desean, Roddy.Just wanting to know what I should be expecting to give up for those guys.

I would only move Moss, Roddy or DeSean. The other s are productive and you will not get value equal to production.Moss>Forte=Roddy>DeSeanMoss>>Brown=Roddy>Grant=DeSeanDeSean=Mendenhall with the other WRs worth considerably moreHope this helps

One more thing on Beanie Wells. He has not proven to be good in pass protection so opposing teams know that when he is in the game, he likely is running the ball. This is why you see Hightower with so many receptions. I do expect Wells to see more time as the season rolls on, but he needs to improve his blocking and receiving first.

Are either of these guys for real?

THANKS

Jeff, again, you've been a huge help for my team. Another Q for you, since I know you :moneybag: answering these.

TEs:

Shockey vs Carlson (of course note that Shockey has already had his bye -- somewhat important to me because we have tiny-ish rosters)

Who do you like going forward? PPR redraft.

PPR League, 12 teams, start 2 RB's

Currently have

Jones-Drew

DeAngelo Williams (been slumping)

Bench:

Chester Taylor, Lendale White, Michael Bush

I got offered: Jonathan Stewart (handcuff) for Chester Taylor (has been performing well)

Do I do the trade since my depth isn't good and it locks up Carolina's RB's (already had bye)

Stewart has been gimpy all year though?

Beanie Wells is on Free Agents, I could add him for Chargers DST to add some depth...

Hey Jeff, need some trade help.

12 team H2H league

6 pts for all TD's

1 pt/10 yards receiving

1 pt/15 yards rushing

Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, DEF

QB: Garrard

RB: A. Peterson, Ronnie Brown, K. Moreno, W. Parker. Chester Taylor

WR: R. Wayne, TJ Housh, D. Hester, P. Harvin, J. Maclin

TE: Witten

I need some help at QB. I have had Ronnie Brown on the block. I just got offered B. Roethlisberger and M. Manningham for Ronnie Brown and W. Parker. Not a bad deal but I really don't like it, leaves me a bit thin at RB. Some RB's on waiver are Sammy Morris, Beanie Wells, M. Bush, M. Moore, J. Lewis, and Leon Washington. Pick anyone of them up?

His Roster:

QB: Rodgers, Big Ben

RB: LT, J. Harrison, LeSean McCoy,

WR: R. Moss, DeSean Jackson, S. Holmes, S. Rice, M. Manningham

TE: A. Gates

Should I try to offer another deal and/or pick any of the above RB's up?

This is a tough one for a couple of reasons. Shockey will have a big week against his old team (NYG), but has had issues playing all 16 games. Carlson is a better bet with Hasselbeck back under center. I think I would roll the dice with Shockey in the high-powered Saint offense.

Like the move to get Stewart. DWill is not known as durable. Biggest issue is the overall play of the Panthers. I would dump the Chargers defense for Beanie if you have a good starter.

What QBs are available on the waiver wire? Assuming nothing decent, I think you hold tight. Garrard was playing well before yesterday and all QBs have those games. He also is best when Sims-Walker is in lineup. In this offer, Manningham does not help you with your WRs. Now, I would do that deal in a heartbeat if it was Rodgers instead of Ben just due to difference in production between the two.

I think I will hold tight. QB's available include Trent Edwards, Derek Anderson, Shaun Hill, Bulger, Stafford, Josh Johnson, Collins, Russell. Would you pick any of those RB's up and if so who should i drop?

As always you are right! Something funny did happen and I will know if I will benefit from this rookie error in a few hours. It seems that someone dropped Donald Driver to pick up Nate Washington to cover for the Packers Bye Week. I have a Waiver waiting to clear tomorrow dropping Rice for Driver. I figured you would have told me to drop Rice if I could get Driver over the rest of my WR's, please tell me I'm right!CJohnson--RWhite--DMason--JCotchery & SRice

By the way, what do you think the future looks like for Cotchery after Mr Edwards AMAZING catches, dropped the TD but he is playing a hell of a lot better wearing green. Do I need to show you some of my other WW options for WR? Plus, I am keeping a close eye on what CJohnson may be facing in time off the field.

Thanks!

10-team PPR dynasty and I'm getting killed from lack of production at the TE spot. I have Keller, Scheffler, Finley, and Cook. Obviously I'm bitter about last night's donut from Keller and probably shouldn't make any rash decisions, but can I honestly go forward with this group? I have two 2010 first rounds picks and I'm about ready to package Finley with one to get a real TE. Should I make a move or be patient with these slouches?

I am more worried about the Cotchery injury (and Clavin injury, too). I would expect both to miss this week's game so Driver would help a ton.

I think I would upgrade, but see if one of your two youngsters (Finley or Cook) would be enough to get Shockey, Heath Miller, or VDavis. Also, you might be able to package Keller and one of the youngsters for a top flight tight end. I am one that tries not to use a first on a tight end since even the best are available in late 2nd, or later, in rookie drafts.

Thanks for course for all your help this season answering my previous questions.

PPR Start QB/WR/WR/RB/RB/Flex/Flex/TE/K/DEF so you can start up to 4 RB's or WR's

Jeff,

I am 0-5 but I feel my team is talented, just struggling. We have the top 6 teams go to the playoffs, and I know it is still possible to make it if I win out, but the chances of that are very small. So I am playing for a high rookie draft pick but how do I do that? I'll always submit the best lineup I can because I still want to win every week but it's sort of worthless because I cant make the playoffs. What to do?

My first thoughts would be to move Benson and Derrick Mason. But Benson lately is looking like a brand new man and he is only 26 (27 in Dec) with not a lot of wear on the tires. I'm starting to think I should consider him young talent as well and not move him. Then again he is only signed through next season, and maybe the Bengals will cut ties with him after that, so maybe he is a perfect "sell high" canidate?

I have good young WR depth so I traded away GregJenning/BMarshall for MJD/Rashad Jennings. I would have never done that if I didn't have Colston, Crabtree, Maclin. Garcon, Tate in hopes that some of them will be able to take their spots (I made the trade before marshall started playing well again, who knew he'd get it on track).

What do you think?

What should an 0-5 dynasty team that is better than their record suggests but is out of the playoff race do?

Who on my team should I look at moving?

Even though I have WRs to take their place how bad of a trade was that to move Marshall/Jennings for MJD?

Hey, would never advocating "tanking", so I say put out your best lineup every week, just like you are doing. I would encourage you to market Mason for either a good prospect you like or picks. The deal I would look at on Mason is him and your 2nd for a middle of the road team's 1st. This only moves you up a few spots, but could help a ton. I would also look to move Cassel after a good game. I know this sounds crazy, but he will not win you any championships. I would target Henne, Leinart (and ask for more in return), or a pick. I think I would move Benson if you can get good value for him, but I suspect most will still view him as a chump without realizing he leads the NFL in rushing .... even over Peterson. Benson has always had a problem with injuries, so I do not expect him to hold up to the pounding. I would try to move him for Kevin Smith, Slaton, or other underperforming RB right now. I really like Smith's future. Another move would be to use Benson to pair with Mason for a very good WR or pair with Cassel for a QB like Flacco. On the trade, I think you gave your best two WRs and maybe overpaid, but it is too early to know. I just am very high on Jennings.

Jeff, I want to get your opinion on this team? I'm not off tho a great start, although I have been toward the top in scoring in this league. Pretty standard Scoring linup: Qb,2 rb, 1rb/wr,2wr,te,k, def I usually start 3 of the rb's. redraft RiversGarrardJackson,Thomas,Slaton,Benson,Coffee,Washington,HarrisonOcho,JenningsMassaquoi,CraytonCarsonScobee....but hope get another kicker..///Kaeding and Carney on wire....some othersVikes
WR's on wire are: Burleson,Rice, Manningham,Harvin,Austin,Hester: I have Crayton who prbly can be dumped for wr3 and Masquai..... Will Jennings ever get it going this year?

Hi again Jeff.

How’s your crystal ball for fill-in TEs this weekend?

Have Vernon Davis on bye, with these WW options, based on targets/game:

Pettigrew (Det) @ GB

Scaife (Ten) @ NE

Sean Ryan (KC) @ Wash

Zach Miller (Oak) vs Phi

Daniel Fells (StL) @b Jax

Donald Lee (GB) vs Det

A few more are Boss, McMichael, Fine, Crumpler, Coats, Fasano, Rosario, Graham, Watson, and Scheffler.

I’m inclined to go with Pettigrew, since Calvin is probably out, and perhaps he gets a few more targets. Over the last 3 wks he’s been getting about 7 targets/game, so that’s a positive.

Lee and Fells are projected in the 6 and 5 range in Yahoo, their highest projections for WW TEs, so maybe there is something there?

Any sense for one or two over the others? Thanks again.

12-team NON-PPR redraft league. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 WR/RB Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. 16 player roster.

Passing TDs = 4 pts, all others 6 pts. 1 pt for 10 yards rushing and receiving.

My Team:

QB: Garrard, Hasselbeck

RB: AP, Ronnie Brown, Addai, Lynch, Chester Taylor

WR: Roddy White, Braylon Edwards, Berrian, Massaquoi

TE: Vernon Davis

DEF: Phil, GB, SF

K: Tynes

I think I would order them Pettigrew, Rosario, then a mess with Ryan, Fells, Watson .... all are crapshoots, but I like the rookie and Rosario best.

Hello Jeff,

Can I get your opinion on my 12 man team? It is a redraft NON PPR standard scoring, Defense gets bonus points for points allowed.

I am overthinking this a lot, I would like to upgrade one of my RB's. We can start several formations. I like the 3 RB/1 WR formation. We can also start 2/2 or 1 RB/3WR or 1RB/4WR and no TE.

I am sitting in a tie at the top of my division at 3-2.

Garrard

Campbell

Ronnie Brown

Steven Jackson

Brandon Jacobs

Michael Bush

Beanie Wells

Chester Taylor

Ochocinco

Steve Smith NYG

Hester

Anthony Gonzalez

Torry Holt

Cooley

Scobee

Jets

Hey, I think you are in good shape. SJax must be killing you. He and Jacobs starting slow have you happy to be 3-2. Your bench RBs are all upside guys, which is good. I think you will go as far as Garrard, SJax, and Jacobs take you. I think two of the three will do well .... just trying to decide which two .... :obc: If trades are readily available in your league, I would look at moving SJax for a RB that produces better. Some still love SJax so moving him will not be hard. Good luck.

Are either of these guys for real?

Austin Miles

Jeremy Maclin

I could drop SRice for one of them.....your thoughts :(

PPR League

THANKS
keep rice ... maclin is second choice. lets remember that both maclin and austin played chump teams this week

Thanks!

I am more worried about the Cotchery injury (and Clavin injury, too). I would expect both to miss this week's game so Driver would help a ton.
Didn't get Driver!

:lmao: Here are the options:

TOwens (Dropped for Driver)---will he get more involved maybe traded to a better team for picks??

JMaclin

HNicks

DNorthcutt (CJ fill-in)

I'm in trouble! This week I'm worried about Cotchery & CJ missing their games and maybe more.

But who do I drop to possible add one of the guys above?

Calvin Johnson-NO (Unless offcialy out for weeks or season)

Roddy White- NO

Derrick Mason-NO

Cotchery--??? BEdwards--looked great & Cotchery's name never came up!

SRice--I think he may be able to post some numbers

So is it, Cotchery or what???

Maybe I should drop Cotchery who won't play week 6 for TOwens &

Sidney Rice for J Maclin.....what do you think? Maclin is taking over the Curtis slot......

Plus there is no guarantee I will get TO until the 15th off of waivers! So should I grab Maclin first?

Since you can start Mason and Roddy White, you only need one WR this week. I would look at dumping Rice for either Maclin or Nicks. I love Nicks, but never know which week he will break out (TDs each of last two weeks). I would avoid TO. He is no better than these two rookies.

Hi Jeff,

This is a Non PPR league. I need to start three out of this bunch, who do you think would be my best three going forward. I appreciate the advice. Even though I'm 2-3 I'm still tied for first in my division so I really want to win to take back the division.

Braylon Edwards NYJ v.s. Buffalo

Greg Jennings GB v.s. Detroit

Jeremy Maclin PHI v.s. Oakland

Santana Moss WAS v.s. Kansas City

Steve Smith NYG v.s. New Orleans

TIA

Jeff if you had to pick one WR which one whould it be? redraft ( only have room for one)

Jeremy Madin

or

Eddie Royal

I would go with Edwards, esp with Cotch re-injuredJennings against Detroit coming off byeSantana Moss could have a big game ... never know with that guyTough matchup for Smith. For Maclin, I am not a doubter, but two big games in a row is asking a lot. He and Santana is a tough choice. Both have good matchups.

that is tough since both teams spread the ball around too much. I think it is Maclin. Royal's one decent game still kept him out of the end zone while Maclin scored twice.

Another tough one. Palmer has a great matchup and Rivers has a tough one, and Rivers has outplayed Palmer. So, take the hotter QB or the creampuff matchup. I think I will say go with Palmer. Houston gave up big points to Warner last week and could do so to Palmer this week

for those asking questions about Maclin: Kevin Curtis was to practice today. The Eagles (for some odd reason) will start Curtis over Maclin when he is healthy. So, please factor this into any decisions revolving Maclin.

Hi Jeff,

Standard scoring, plus 1/25 return yards.

I've got some WR decisions this week with Wayne on bye.

Pick 2:

VJax (vs. DEN)

NYG SSmith (@NO)

Manningham (@NO)

All three are going against resurgent defenses this week. Which defense is for real? I can still pick up Maclin (@OAK), Caldwell (vs. HOU), and Jacoby Jones (@CIN) on WW.

------------

At TE, I picked up Heap with Olson on bye, and this week, Heap faces the TE-friendly MIN defense, so...

Pick 1:

Heap (@MIN)

Olson (@ATL)

The likes of Shiancoe (vs. BAL) are also available on WW.

-------------

Finally, I'm still facing the weekly conundrum of TJones vs. Washington (vs. BUF) as the more productive NYJ back for my RB2 slot. It feels like a closer call than it should be because of the return yardage.

Thanks again for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Hey, this is a tough one. Seems all are this week. At WR, I really like Caldwell for long-term, but hard to rely on a guy that gets 1-2 catches a game. Maclin is downgraded a little if Curtis plays. I think you have to play VJax, who is your best WR. Also, I would not want two WRs going in the fluky game in NO. I say fluky because the Giants will test the NYG and see if they are for real. I think I would go with Smith since he has been hot. i expect Nicks to overtake Manningham soon enough. At TE, I am leaning ever so slightly toward Shiancoe. He has scored three of the past four weeks. Hard to rely on Olsen until we see it and Heap is hit or miss. Good luck this week.

Hi Jeff,

Who should I start at RB (2), WR (2), and Flex (1)?

My RBs (those not on bye) are: Slaton (@ CIN), R Rice (@ MIN), Jacobs (@ NO), J Harrison (@ PIT), and S Jackson (@ JAX).

My WRs (not on bye) are: S Smith (NYG @ NO), Cal Johnson (@ GB), D Jackson (@ OAK), and N Burleson (vs. ARI).

I currently am starting Slaton and Rice at RB, S Smith and Burleson at WR, and D Jackson at Flex.

This is a PPR league.

I agree with who you have. It is sad SJax has fallen that far. And, as a Jacobs owner, I would want to see him produce for a game or two before starting over the other options.

Hey Jeff, need some help with a possible trade

12 team H2H Keeper Auction league

$200 salary. Can keep 3 players and as many taxi squad players. Players can be kept for 3 years.(THIS IS SECOND YEAR OF LEAGUE)

5 man rookie squad. Members can be promoted and salary depends on round they were drafted in rookie draft(eg. $10/year x 5 years rd. 1, $5/year x 3 years rd. 2, etc)

Standard Scoring, 6 pts for all TD's

Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 4 WR/TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

Currently 4-1 after my whole team put up a DUD last week. LT is hurting me and I am starting to panic a bit. I got a descent offer today.

Roster

QB: Rodgers $3(2nd year of three year contract), Garrard $1

RB: Chris Johnson$10(2nd year of 5 year contract), LT $44, Thomas Jones $14, Justin Forsett$3, E. Graham $4

WR/TE: R. Moss$40(2nd year of 3 year contract), Calvin Johnson $20(2nd year of 3yr), A. Boldin$22(2nd year of 3yr.), Driver $14, K. Walter $11, Cooley $4

I wasn't thinking of keeping Moss after this year after acquiring Boldin in a trade. I would keep Boldin, Johnson and Rodgers plus Chris Johnson as a taxi squad keeper. Anyways, I have received two offers. B. Edwards $27(1st year of 3 yr) and A. Bradshaw$11(1st yr. of 3 yr.) for either Boldin $22 or Moss at $40. This deal doesn't help my keeper situation a whole lot since I would likely keep Boldin, Johnson and Rodgers over Edwards and Bradshaw anyways. This does give me a bit of depth at RB but do I lose too much at WR? Braylon looked good playing the other night but I just don't know. Thanks
