wannabee Strategy Thread (4 Viewers)

Hi Jeff.

To cover two bye spots this weekend, I picked up Mark Clayton and Kevin Faulk.

Now it looks like Torry Holt and Jason Snelling are also available on the WW.

I need one WR, but the other spot can be either a WR or RB. As the week has unfolded, do you like either Snelling or Holt over Faulk or Clayton? I know these aren’t great options, but I’m trying to find a few points from my open WR and flex positions.

• Kevin Faulk NE v Mia

• Jason Snelling Atl v Wash

• Mark Clayton Bal @ Cincy

• Torry Holt Jax v KC

Thanks!

12-team NON-PPR redraft league. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 WR/RB Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. 16 player roster.

Passing TDs = 4 pts, all others 6 pts. 1 pt for 10 yards rushing and receiving.

My Team:

QB: Hasselbeck, Garrard

RB: AP, Ronnie Brown, Addai, Lynch, Chester Taylor, Kevin Faulk (bolded are wk 9 byes)

WR: Roddy White, B Edwards, Berrian, Mark Clayton (bolded are wk 9 byes)

TE: Vernon Davis

DEF: Phil, GB

K: Tynes

Hi Jeff,

League 2 in my sig below. Standard scoring, non-PPR league, no points for ST yards/TDs.

I'm dropping Chicago's D, which I don't need anymore after their matchup vs. the Browns. I just don't know who to pick up.

I'm thinking about fortifying my WR corps. Right now I'm carrying AJ, Mason, and Welker. Guys like Boldin, Bowe, Crabtree, Evans, Maclin, Walter, and Cotch are available in the FA pool.

Should I pick one of them up or go for a different positional need, like RB, where McCoy, Maroney, Bell, JJ, or Charles are all available?

Thanks!

the two WRs have the best chance to be productive. I think I would go with both considering the matchups

I think I would go with WR since you will need to cover AJ's bye next week. Might as well pick up a WR to give you another option for next week. I would think Boldin or Crabtree. Boldin if healthy, Crabtree if not.

Jeff

Hi, how ya doing? I have two questions...

(12 team PPR league, start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1OP(RB,QB,WR,TE), 1TE, 1D/ST, 1K)

3pts- throwing TD, 6pts rushing/receiving TD - any player, 1point per reception, 3pt bonus for any rec/rush TD over 40yds otherwise typical scoring.

1) I'm debating which QB to start and they are ranked pretty close, Schaub or Big Ben. Do you have a gut feeling or hunch?

2) Is Hester a start this week?

I am starting A. Johnson, Sims-Walker, and considering Bowe and Hester for the 3rd WR and or flex.

Thanks and good luck this week.

Jeff

I have a few other questions... thanks for the time...

3) Which TE is worth keeping as a backup? I have Heap and Keller as backups to Gates, and realize that I don't them both.

4) Looking into my D's are the Colts worth keeping on my bench, or not now after Sanders went down?

Thanks

Scott aka PYROboy

Hi Jeff - This might seem nuts but....

....I am reevaluating the top to bottom of my roster.

And I realized with the lack of real value in RB and WR depth out there I needed to strengthen my defense and kicker positions.

Especially after losing by just 1.3 points two weeks ago, mostly on the weaknesses of the defense and kicker I started - a difference of -17 points.

I am currently 3-5 and need wins, bad, though I'm in a tight league.

Primarily, two questions:

what are your thoughts on loading up on defenses?

I have added ATL for this week, and CIN and NE (via trade for Lynch) to go with Denver. Moving forward, the three defenses of CIN, DEN & NE make for a very nice schedule. or is this too much roster room to sacrifice?

Secondly, seriously, seriously considering dropping FF leading kicker Tynes for another kicker. In particular Nick Folk. Folk's schedule is rough this weekend and next - Philly, and then GB - but then gets really good. Tynes gets SD (maybe good) and then bye (0, anyway).... so any thoughts on whether Philly can or will dampen Folk's scoring abilities? The Eagles have been tough on kickers this year, but does that even matter as this could be a shootout? I really feel like I could use even the extra few points this weekend.......

Thanks.

I try not to have too many QB/WR going against Indy any week. They are very good against the pass. I know they have lost some corners this week so I bump Schaub back into the conversation. With Ben having a tough matchup against in Denver, I think I would roll with Schaub and hope for a shootout. This could go either way, but Houston has a shot at some garbage time stats. For WR, I am trying not to rely on Bowe and the KC passing game, even against the Jags. I would go with Hester .. who has been hot of late. Good luck to you this week.

3) I would go with Heap since Sanchez does not give Keller consistent targets. 4) I would dump the Colt defense since they have some tough matchups coming up.

Hey, with kickers and defenses, I usually try the same thing in every league. With kickers, I get a good one and keep him as long as possible. With Tynes, I would hold him one more week (tomorrow) then dump for Folk while Tynes is on bye Tynes is hurting with the poorshowing by the pass offense. If Tynes rebounds, then I might try to find a way to keep both kickers. The Chargers do not have a great defense, especially since the game is in NYG. With defenses, I try my best to get 2-3 at this time of the year. While I like to stick with a kicker, I try to play matchups with defenses. To me, fantasy production by defenses is mainly based on the weakness of the opposing team. For this reason, I like your move of a few defenses. Cincy is the only one I might question. They lost their best pass rusher in Odom, who was able to get all of those sacks earlier. Only week to start Cincy is when playing Cleve. But, in general, defenses can give you much needed production. I have no issue with your strategy.

Standard scoring 1 PPR, need a #2 RB to go along with Gore with SJax on BYE. Choices are

Felix Jones

Mike Bell

Maurice Morris

Nothing on the WW.

Also, how do you feel about TE Joel Dressen vs. IND? Worth a start over Kellen Winslow vs. GB? (1PPR)

Thanks!

At TE, I would go with Winslow just because Dressen is not a great receiving option. For the RB choice, I would narrow it down to Jones versus Bell. The Saints will run the ball well versus Carolina. Jones will get a few touches against Philly. The issue is that each is in a three-back committee. I think I would lean toward Bell since he has had 12-17 touches the last three weeks since returning from knee injury and has a great matchup. Jones has ran the ball just eight times each of the last three games, and 1-2 receptions each week. Add in Bell's increased chance for a TD, and I would say play Bell.

Hey everyone, I will up for a couple more hours to answer questions ... but, like other Sundays, I will not be around at all tomorrow. Good luck as always and enjoy watching the games.

Need 1qb and 1wr.

QB: 1pt/20yds passing, 1pt/10yds rushing, 6pts td's

Schaub or Rodgers? Leaning towards Rodgers, but i'm worried his foot injuries could have him sitting early.

Schaub faces a Colts secondary that is supposedly banged up.

WR: 1pt/10yds rush/rec, 6pts td's, 1 PPR

Burleson or Steve Smith(NYG)? Leaning towards Smith, but it's hard to sit Burleson with his matchup with Detroit.

Smith was a beast earlier in the year, but has cooled down. Will he bust out this week against San Diego?

Burleson could be all or nothing.

Thanks for the help.

I love Rodgers this week. I cannot imagine him sitting unless the Packers were up big. They badly need a win. And, the Colts have a top pass offense. At WR, I would go with Burleson against the Lions. Burleson has more big play potential and a better matchup ... plus a QB that is playing better (Eli has been quite cold for three weeks)

Hi Jeff,

Quick last minute move: Moats is getting the start @IND. Is he worth starting over Ronnie Brown @NE considering how beat up Indy's D is?

Thanks again!

I think I would ride Brown until we know more about the touch distribution in Houston. Also, there is a chance that Indy is up big on Houston, leaving Slaton to play more in catch up mode. I do see Moats in for running downs and Slaton for passing.

Hey Jeff idk if you do gameday questions but who would you start in a ppr league here. Start 2 rb's 1 wr/rb flex here's the choices mendenhall, Ryan grant, lt and Floyd. The way it is now is all the three running backs but I'm thinking of switching lt for floyd?

Of the Rbs, I think Ricky is the most startable most weeks. For the defenses, I like Cincy starting in week 11, for three weeks. I do not like any of the WRs more than your current ones. You have suffered with Calvin/Roddy hurt. They should get better in a week. Pettigrew is decent, but no way would I expect those type of numbers going forward. He came close to equaling his season totals in just one game.

Jeff, I just wanted to say thanks for the above response to my question on defenses and kickers. I went with Folk and the Falcons, and switched around some to get McCoy for last night's game.

On the Bengals, as an fyi, they go: OAK, CLE, DET. I feel like I HAVE to drop the Falcons to get that schedule for the 3 weeks that follow next weekend.

********

I have another one now: do you have any view on my dropping Maclin (at SD) and/or Nicks (bye) as a WR3, especially for this week, in in this order:

1. Lav Coles (@ PIT) (seems like an uptick with Henry out + 3 straight good weeks)

2. James Jones (v. DAL) (he has Jennings' old role and TD's if you lok at 4 of the last 5 weeks, I'm just not sure why no one has said it yet)

3. Meachem (@ StL) (great matchups vs TB & StL, bushels of yards and TD's for Brees)

- Also seriously considering starting Jones and Coles over Maclin and Jennings if I can pull that add/drop off.

I agree on Cincy. I went back and looked at the schedule. Matchups for fantasy defenses seems better than going with one, unless it is a hot defense like the Saints. The Falcons played well yesterday and locked up some good production. I will be the first to say I am a huge Coles fan and was touting him in the offseason. Also, I am not a huge Maclin fan. Can you feel the "but" coming? But, I think Maclin is a play this week. I expect the Eagles to rebound after getting embarrassed last night. I do like the Jennings/James Jones combo against weak defenses but the Cowboys played well against the pass last night. For Meachum, his role is dependent on Lance Moore's injury status. If Moore misses again, then Meachem vs Maclin is a close one for me. Good luck.

Jeff,

If you have a chance, I'd be grateful for any thoughts you might have on this trade offer I just received. I had emailed the guy 3 or 4 days ago to ask him if he might be interested in a trade for a WR, and this was his response. I would get Derrick Mason in exchange for Kellen Winslow. He also has Hines Ward who I think is more valuable than Mason, but I'm not sure about trying to get him or not.

I'm currently in 2nd place in a total points, no-playoff, no championship game league, with scoring primarily for TDs (we get points for yardage only if the RB/WR gets 100+ total yards, and points for catches only if the TE/WR gets 6+ receptions). I have no real WR depth after my starting 3 guys, and 2 of them will be on bye in Week 10. We start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1DEF. My roster is as follows:

QB: Brady, Garrard

RB: DeAngelo, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Marshawn Lynch, Tashard Choice, Justin Forsett

WR: Andre Johnson, Steve Smith (NYG), Dwayne Bowe, Muhsin Muhammad, Isaac Bruce, Brandon Tate

TE: Vernon Davis, Winslow

K: Gould

DEF: Minnesota, Seattle

Davis is my starting TE, and he's past his bye already, so I probably wouldn't be playing Winslow absent a Davis injury or a really strong matchup situation. If I accepted the trade, I'd be starting Mason definitely in Week 10 (with AJ & SSmith both on bye) and I'd have a little more depth if any of my starters got hurt down the road. It seems like a good trade for me, but I was hoping to get your thoughts. Also, should I try for another WR on his team instead of Mason, or would that seem too greedy? I was thinking perhaps of going for Hines Ward instead. If you think I should try for Ward, but I am not offering enough, should I offer Winslow and Tashard Choice for Ward?

Also, his roster is as follows (He's in 11th place out of 12 teams, so I don't have the problem of potentially helping someone who is likely to pass me in the standings):

QB: Cassel, Palmer, Alex Smith

RB: Westbrook, McGahee, Fred Jackson, Maurice Morris, Jamal Lewis

WR: Calvin Johnson, Hines Ward, Derrick Mason, Crayton, Terrell Owens, Malcom Floyd

TE: Scheffler

K: Prater, Rackers

DEF: Colts, Steelers

Thanks again for any thoughts you might have!

I love Ward and Mason, but Hines is far the superior play here. I think I would probably offer Winslow/Lynch for Ward and another WR like Crayton (or see if you can get both Mason and Ward). Lynch does little for you with their poor OL and offense as a whole. I see few times (outside of injury) you would start him while you would start both of these WRs this coming week with the bye issue and Muhammad injury. At this point in the season, it is worth the price to overpay if need be just to swing for the fence and get the player you want.

Matt ryan is the only qb i have on my roster. The only decent qb on the waiver wire is Matt cassel whose numbers are'nt that different from ryan's. Cassel has less yds but ryan has thrown 5 more picks. With some upcoming favorable matchups coming up, do i pick up cassel and alternate starts between him and Ryan based on matchups or do i stick with matty ice and hope he turns it around soon?

ryan-13 tds, 10 picks, 1784 yds.

cassel-10 tds, 5 picks, 1256 yds.

qbs get 6 pts for pass tds and 1 pt for every 25 yds.

Matt ryan is the only qb i have on my roster. The only decent qb on the waiver wire is Matt cassel whose numbers are'nt that different from ryan's. Cassel has less yds but ryan has thrown 5 more picks. I would pick up Cassel just in case. But, it would take a bad Ryan matchup and a good Cassel matchup to consider benching Ryan.

strategy question.

play in a ppr.

my starting rbs are ray rice and chris johnson. with fantasy playoffs looming, do i pick up lendale white as a handuff to chris johnson or try and add a guy like ladell betts or justin forsett who have more value right now?

i already have mcgahee as a handcuff to rice.

White since neither of the other two RBs are worth starting. Washington has three tough matchups in a row coming up

Hey Jeff. trade question. 12 team redraft. I am thinking of trying to get Deangelo williams for Kev.Smith and a WR, like Sims-Walker. is that too much for me to give? no ppr. we start 2RBs, 2WRs, 1flex-rb/wr/te and 1TE. current 5-4, need to win out because I am nor scoring any points relative to others

my team:

D Garrard M Schaub ®

M Lynch R Grant D Brown ® M Bell ® K Smith

M Crabtree S Smith(CAR) E Royal ® M Sims-Walker ® N Burleson ®

F Davis C Cooley ®

N Kaeding

Packers Colts ®

I am more optimistic on MSW and Smith than most. I think gettign DWill is a great move. What do you think about offering Lynch and Steve Smith for DWill and a WR throw in? I ask that because they have bigger names but are producing less. If the other guy wanted two RBs, I would not hesitate to give Kevin Smith and Lynch

he will now go for lynch and any wr. it may take, lynch, k.smith and a wr. it would be an all or nothing move. an injury would kill me.my roster would be: compared to:Grant DWilliams... Grant, KSmithSim-Walker Burleson (or SSmith) Sims-Walker, SSmithflex...D.Brown, Bell, CrabTree flex: Lynch, Burleson, CrabTree, D.Brown, BellThe first one has better playoff potential??

Howdy Jeff - I would appreciate your opinion on this offer.

12 team partial keeper (2-5) $200 auction league (keepers salary increased by $5). Won the league last year and have had a terrible season thus far. 3-5-1 record thus far although I haven't had much luck - will spare you the details, but have played many of the weeks high scorers.

Only 1.5 games out of a playoff spot.

My Roster:

QB - Schaub, V Young

RB - Turner, Grant, Pierre, Beanie, Mike Bell, Mike Bush

WR - Calvin, Sims-Walker, K Walter, Cotchery

TE - Had Owen, J Finley

His Roster:

QB - Hasslebeck, Warner

RB - Jones-Drew, Mendenahall, Barber, Moats

WR - Breaston, Colston, DeSean Jackson, Welker

TE - Shockey

He has offered me his Colston for my Pierre. Pierre would cost me $20 to keep while Colston would cost me $46. So in other words this would be a half season rental in hopes of making the playoffs. Pierre would probably be kept for me, so I would be loosing one of my keepers.

Worth going for? We have four games left in the regular season and I would think I would have to win out - does Colston do that?

Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR or 1 RB 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def

so, he would take KSmith, Lynch, & Royal? I would do that in a heartbeat. Donald Brown will be back soon.

Hey, I do not think Colston helps you enough for the price, to be honest. He may or may not outscore Pierre over the games needed.
