wannabee Strategy Thread (4 Viewers)

Jeff thanks for the time and effort you put into this.

Standard scoring non-PPR league and I limped into the playoffs with a weak RB stable.

Caddy @ SEA very pedestrian and sharing carries now

DWilliams @ MIN injuries to that line and a tough match-up

Harrison @ KC picked him up last week for this match-up but the team is looking elsewhere for production

Hightower @ DET shares carries but has a nice match-up

Forsett vs TB

Can't expect huge things from this group but opportunity wise I like Hightower and Forsett the best.

Just checked the WW and McFadden, C. Jennings and Ganther are available, I could drop Harrison and Avant for two of these players.

TIA

I like DWilliams best. He could have a big game any week. I would start him every game. For the other starter, it would be either Forsett or McFadden. I did not like how Hightower was benched after the fumble Monday night. While he could have a big game vs Detroit, never know if it will be he or Wells that gets the touches. Good luck

Jeff,

Thanks in advance. you havent let me down yet so I'll continue to look to you for reassurance.

PPR league, 1/10 yds, 6 TD. no decimal pts (9 yards = 0 pts, bush league, whatever.)

couple of interesting scenarios that I have here. basically RB2 and WR3 situations. semi-finals of playoffs so of course the crazy thinking comes out. what are your thoughts?

1. RB2

Frank Gore @ PHI OR Reggie Bush vs Dal OR Free Agent

Thought process: okay, so seems like a no brainer. However, Gore has been such a hit or miss this year and usually coming off a huge game he doesn't fare well. Also, he has not gotten more than 60 yards in an away game and here he is going to Philly where they havent allowed a visiting RB to go for more than 86. The new 49ers offense(my fave team) doesn't favor him as much either. Bush is certianly not consistent either but has been doing well as of late and Dallas d is struggling. Also have Marshawn Lynch but he isn't worth a look.

Other Starters: Ray Rice

Some available FA's: Ganther, Moats, Fargas, Cadillac, Moats, Jennings/Harrison, Snelling, Choice, Jones

2. WR3

Roddy White @ NYJ OR Mike Sims-Walker vs Ind OR Mario Manningham @ WAS OR Free Agent

Thought process:again, sort of a no brainer with Roddy White as the starter but again, Redman is the starter and he had 2 catches for 41 yarsd last week. Also, he is going up against Darrelle Revis this week who has shut everyone down that has come to Giants Stadium. Manningham looks like he lost his starting spot so I'd probably lean MSW but he is currently hurting and had 1 catch last week on 6 targets.

Other Starters: Randy Moss, Derrick Mason

Some available FA's: Aromashodu, Avery, D Thomas, Cribbs, Massaquoi, Britt, Bess, Avant

Thanks again for your help. Listed my roster with current starters in bold, if you think there are any other suggestions please advise.

QB : Warner, A Smith

RB : Rice, Gore, Bush, Lynch

WR : Moss, Mason, White, MSW, Manningham

TE : Witten, Carlson

K : Tynes, Crosby

DEF : NYJ, TEN

I will do my best. Good luck this week. I am glad it worked out last week.

I like Gore. I read where Singletary promised to give Gore more carries going forward (and no more 9-12 carry games). I try not to read too much into a MNF game since teams sometimes have a tough time the next week. But, I like Gore best of those options (and prob RB12-15 this week). Bush is only an option if Mike Bell is out of the lineup.

At WR, I do not like White with Revis on him. Revis is a stud. I would go with either MSW or Britt. Much depends on MSW's health. He has been limited/out for a few weeks. Avant would be my third choice, FYI, with Maclin hurt. I do not have a good feel yet on MSW's health, sorry. Also, Britt is a much better play with VY at QB. So, it is conceivable that Avant is the best option if MSW is still gimpy and Collins starts at QB.

I hope you make it through to the finals.

Campbell v NYG

RB (PPR)

Chris Johnson

Pick 1

MJD v INDY

Charles v CLE

Moreno v OAK

(I know dance with who brung you)

WR (PPR)

Jennings v PIT

Ochocinco v SD

Santana Moss v NYG

Collie v JAX

Bess v TEN

TE (PPR)

Finley v PIT

Miller v GB

DEF (penalizes heavily for points against)

Arizona v DET

who do i start at my def/st this week?

arizona at detriot

or

houston at st louis.

we get 1 pt for sacks, 2 pts for fumble recoverey or int, and 6 pts for defensive td or punt/kickoff return for td. no pts for return yds.

Hey Jeff. Thanks for your advice last week. I'm in the final four in my 14 team standard scoring league. This is a tough week for decision making for me. I start 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1Flex. All other positions are already determined. Here are my RB's: Benson, McGahee, Sproles, T. Choice, and M. Hart. WR's: A. Johnson, C. Chambers, M. Jenkins, Bess, and D. Branch. I had Burelson  Anyway, your input is greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays.

Hi Jeff

Need your help with choosing a QB for this weeks playoffs.

Its a PPR league and scoring for QB's is as follows:

Completions = 0.2

Incomplete Passes = -0.3

Passing Yards 25 yards per point

Passing Touchdowns = 6

Interceptions = -3

Who would you go with out of the following?:

1. Cassel vs Clev

2. Clemens vs Atl

3. Henne @ Tenn

4. Hasselback vs TB

5. Cutler @ Bal

Also which team Defence/Special Team would you go with with scoring as follows:

Defense/Special Teams League Value

Sack 1

Interception 2

Fumble Recovery 2

Touchdown 6

Safety 2

Block Kick 2

Points Allowed 0 points 10

Points Allowed 1-6 points 7

Points Allowed 7-13 points 4

Points Allowed 14-20 points 1

Points Allowed 21-27 points 0

Points Allowed 28-34 points -1

Points Allowed 35+ points -4

Thanks again for all your help!!

I like both of these a lot With Kevin Smith out, Calvin limited and Culpepper probably under center I like AZ defense.

QBs is tough one. I would say Hasselbeck, Cassel, and Cutler in that order The FLA teams have struggled making the trip to SEA this year I do not know the choices at DEF, but like AZ, HOU, and Indy this week

Thanks for the advice last week. Lineup is pretty set, but always like a 2nd opinion:

QB

Roethlisberger v GB

Campbell v NYG

If have to choose, I would go with Campbell against the porous NYG secondary Hines Ward is nicked up, hurting Ben.

RB (PPR)

Chris Johnson

Pick 1

MJD v INDY

Charles v CLE

Moreno v OAK

(I know dance with who brung you)

MJD but other two are great options

WR (PPR)

Jennings v PIT

Ochocinco v SD

Santana Moss v NYG

Collie v JAX

Bess v TEN

Don't know how many you need, so I will order them Chad, Santana, Jennings, Collie, Bess

TE (PPR)

Finley v PIT

Miller v GB

Finley has led the team in targets over last month.

DEF (penalizes heavily for points against)

Arizona v DET

Jets v ATL

I like AZ facing DET without Kevin Smith, Calvin is nicked and Stafford is likely out, too. ATL will score hurting the points against
Good luck this week

Hi Jeff,

I have a couple of concerns about the IND-JAC game tomorrow. I have Reggie Wayne in one league and was wondering what you think of his chances of being productive with Indy resting some starters and Wayne nursing his toe. I can go to NYG Steve Smith if necessary.

Also, I've been riding Stover to little success lately and have kept him for fear of the Colts offense busting out. Should I finally ditch him for someone like Hartley, Prater, Feely, or Kris Brown?

Thanks!

Hi again Jeff.

QB: Garrard vs Indy, Vince Young vs Miami, Hasselbeck vs Tampa Bay. None of these guys has done much lately, so I wonder if Sanchez vs Atlanta, or even Freeman at Seattle might be a better option. Whew, ugly choices!

WR: With Roddy White facing Revis, and not doing much lately anyway, I think I have to sit him for Britt vs Miami. Seem reasonable?

RB:

• I’ll play ADP at Carolina of course, and then think I’ll plug in Ganther vs NYG on MNF and hope for another surprising week. Could lightning strike twice?

• For my final slot I have

o Chester Taylor backing up ADP at Miami,

o Marshawn Lynch backing up Jackson vs NE

o Jerome Harrison and Chris Brown were underwhelming lately, and I guess that is to be expected from the “hot hand” approach in Houston and Cleveland. Waiver options are Cleveland’s Chris Jennings, and Houston’s Arian Foster, but again picking the right guys in those offenses is hard to do. Someone could play well, but you never know who.

o Kevin Faulk at Buffalo is on waivers, as is

o Derrick Ward at Seattle.

• Lynch has been getting a few carries, and has been fortunate with them the last couple of weeks, so I’m tending toward him. Are there any nuggets I’m missing here?

Def: Finally, with two defenses, I’ve been consistently playing the GB Defense when I should have played the Eagles, and vice versa! So with GB at Pitt, and Phil vs SF, I’m conflicted again. Houston at St Louis is out there, and I’m tempted to grab the Texans. Thoughts?

Thanks again.

12-team NON-PPR redraft league. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 WR/RB Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. 16 player roster.

Passing TDs = 4 pts, all others 6 pts. 1 pt for 10 yards rushing and receiving, 25 yards passing.

My Team:

QB: Garrard, Hasselbeck, Vince Young

RB: AP, Lynch, Chester Taylor, Jerome Harrison, Quinton Ganther, Chris Brown

WR: Roddy White, Chad Ochocinco, Kenny Britt

TE: Vernon Davis

DEF: Phil, GB

K: Hartley

Hi Jeff. I am looking to start one of the Colts WRs tonight (wish I didn't have to, but I have a lot of injuries). I have both Garcon and Collie. League scoring is 1 pt per reception, 1 pt per 10 yds rec/rush, 6 pts per td. Garcon has been a little banged up as of late, and with the possibility of the Colts resting some of their starters at some point, he may definitely be a candidate for a shortened night. I'm thinking that if that happens, that Collie might see more targets (with the chance of Wayne and Clark being given a rest as well). If you had to choose between Collie and Garcon for tonight, who would you go with? Thanks Jeff.

On Wayne, I really am not that worried that Indy rests their players. Jax will give them a fight and the Colts will need to play well in order to win. The only way I see the Indy starters getting "rest" is if they are up big, which could mean good things for Wayne. I like Hartley this week. The game against DAL should be high scoring. The only fear is if he is nicked up. Check the injury reports. Ir ead where he was limited earlier in the week but expected to play.

Good luck this week

Good luck in this week's game. At QB, I would go with VY if he is playing. He would have been a great play last week before the injury. Hasslebeck will not be too bad. I do not like Sanchez or Freeman this week. Garrard could be ok, but I am afraid the Indy def will eat him alive with their speed. At WR, I would sit White for Britt as well, especially if VY is playing. He seems to love the rookie. At RB, it is either Faulk or Chester as I think Minny blows out CAR. Both will be decent. At defense, I think all three should score well. I think I would go with either Philly or HOU. I like GB but they play at Pitt coming off a bad loss to Cleve. I would have said GB if playing in GB. I expect Philly and HOU to be good this week. They are close. I like HOU more if Boller is out and they have to start the rookie Null again. He threw five picks last week. That is a game where I expect HOU to get out to a lead, making StL throw to come back. Also, I am expecting Philly to dominate SF.

I think I would go with garcon (assuming he is healthy). He has a better chance for a big play. Collie does not get many catches/yards .. just sporadic TDs. On the resting players, I see that only if the Colts are up big.

Hey everyone, on Indy possibly resting players:

The reason I do not see it as an issue tonight is that if the Colts are ahead by 3 or 4 TDs, then rest their studs, your fantasy players should have produced ok. But, if Indy did not play their starters this week or rest of their season, they would be four games without game action due to bye in first week of playoffs. They need to stay sharp. Maybe next week, the studs see less action, but we are a long ways away from JAN 17, the likely date of the next meaningful game.

I hope this makes sense. It is just my conjecture, but why I answered above like I did.

That's really helpful and makes sense. Thanks! One more question: Which defense (no ST scoring) do you like better? DEN (vs. OAK) or HOU (@STL)? Scoring is 1/sack, 2/INT, 2/FR, 2/blocked punt, 2/safety, 6/TD, and points for points allowed.

I like both a lot but will say Denver. They should have good success against Charlie Frye.

Jeff,

Just snagged Cribbs off the wire in anticipation of sitting Roddy vs. Revis (1st round of playoffs). I don't have another option other than Berrian at WR. I love the idea of CLE using Cribbs all over the field and I actually have a good feeling about his chances to have a good FF game. What are your thoughts? I noticed that FBGs (Dodds) has Cribbs ranked in the 40s this week.

Also have Roethlisberger, VY and Gararrd to choose from at QB. I like Ben in big games as well as VY, but I need to make a decision about Garrard before tonight. How do you see those 3 QBs shaking out over the next few days?

Jeff, could you explain your thoughts on Branch. FBG has Chambers and Bess ranked higher this week. I realize this is your opinion but if you could elaborate on your picks I'd appreciate it.

At QB, I like Garrard least of the three. The other two are close. I think Ben has a good game and would lean toward him over VY with VY hobbled. Neither has a great matchup and Ben has the better chance to throw for 2+ TDs. I have been wrong many times, but I expect the Steelers to come off the long break fired up after losing to Cleve.I like Cribbs over White/Berrian .. especially against the Chiefs.

Jeff,

Appreciate your help with head to head game for last playoff spot. Standard performance scoring, no PPR, all TDs 6 pts.

Need to pick one QB from these three...

VYoung vs Mia

ASmith @ Phil

Cutler @ Balt

Need to start three of these four...

Forsett vs TB

FJackson vs NE

Calvin Johnson vs Ariz

VDavis @ Phil

Opponent is playing DClark Thursday nite. If he has a big game I'd lean toward going for broke, if he doesn't do much I'd lean toward staying conservative.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Branch with Burleson expected out. Chambers has Bowe coming back, thus competition for targets. And, I do not like Bess and the Miami pass offense against Tenn. The Miami pass offense is tough to predict who will have the good game. On Branch, it was purely because I am assuming Burleson is out with the high ankle sprain. The same article said Branch would take his spot and Butler moves to WR3/slot. Hope this helps.

I like Ben in big games as well as VY, but I need to make a decision about Garrard before tonight. How do you see those 3 QBs shaking out over the next few days?
At QB, I like Garrard least of the three. The other two are close. I think Ben has a good game and would lean toward him over VY with VY hobbled. Neither has a great matchup and Ben has the better chance to throw for 2+ TDs. I have been wrong many times, but I expect the Steelers to come off the long break fired up after losing to Cleve.I like Cribbs over White/Berrian .. especially against the Chiefs.
Thanks a ton, JT.

Jeff,Just snagged Cribbs off the wire in anticipation of sitting Roddy vs. Revis (1st round of playoffs). I don't have another option other than Berrian at WR. Made it through last week unscathed and now I am seeking your advice again. PPR league...,

1) At RB1 is Chris Johnson. My question is about my RB2. I have Chester Taylor, Jerious Norwood, and just picked up Arian Foster. Looking at Taylor or Foster. With Taylor I looked back at his last 4 weeks points in my league and he scored 10.5, 20.4, 8.9 and then 7.7 last week. I am thinking about starting Taylor (hoping the Vikes continue to use him on 3rd downs and give him 3-5 targets.) I watch the local Vikes games and follow them closely, but I know very little about Foster. My gut says more potential upside with Foster, but he only has played and scored in 1 game and is more of a potential bust too. I am leaning toward Taylor as the safer option, but what do you think?

2 For WR1 I have Andre Johnson, but am debating with #2 and #3. I have Bowe, Hakeem Nicks, Santana Moss, Hester, Devin Thomas, and Sims-Walker. I am planning on starting Nicks and either Bowe or Moss as they seem more consistent than the others. I have all but ruled out Sims-Walker and Hester due to inconsitency and injury as of late and like what I have seen out of Nicks over the last month or so. (I saw his 3 drops on his last game too, but I like his upside.) Is Bowe too much of a risk with being out for 4 weeks?

Thanks for all your help all year and best of luck to you.

Hey Scott, congrats on making it through. At RB, I also like Chester as I think the Vikes get an easy lead and run a ton n Carolina. I like Foster but hard to tell which back will get the points week to week. At WR, I would start Nicks just for upside. I know about the drops, but he still put up fantasy points. The last comes down to Santana vs Bowe NYG secondary is soft so I would go with Moss. Good luck, Scott

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for your help all season long. Have one question for u.

Which one of these rbs would you start; LT, Mendy, or Chris Jennings? Have Jennings in my lineup right now due to matchups, but been contemplating about Mendy since he's now the 3rd down back as well. Also Ganther and bradshaw are on my waivers, should i consider picking them up and starting ahead of any of these guys?

Thanks!

Hey, I know Jennings has a good matchup but I do not trust Cleve offense. I would choose either LT or Mendenhall. Both are decent options. I think I would go with LT. Last week, the Bengals gave up a big game to ADP. Mendenhall is a good play as well. They are close for me.

Hey, good to have the big game on Thursday night from Manning to start the week. I think you are in good shape. I would start your two stud RBs without question. At WR, I would go with Rice, Meachem and Mason. I would avoid White and Calvin scares me, too. I expect the NO/DAL game to be high scoring. Finley would be my choice at TE as well. Good luck this week and hope to see you back for the Championship game.

Congrats on making it to the semis. I would go with the first four options. Olsen/Cutler have struggled of late. Camarillo splits targets with Bess, Hartline, and Ginn. The other four have a better shot at a big game. If you are wanting to swap one of them out, it would be Mooris and Olsen. But, I did read a quote saying that Morris would get the full load that Smith was carrying. Good luck this week.

FRED DAVIS OR BRENT CELEK...PPR.

I HEARD CELEK WAS HAVING BACK ISSUES AND THAT WEATHER IN PHILLY MAY HOLD DOWN PASSING GAME.

THOUGHTS?

Thanks!
I read where he was limited earlier in the week but expected to play.

Good luck this week
That's really helpful and makes sense. Thanks! One more question: Which defense (no ST scoring) do you like better? DEN (vs. OAK) or HOU (@STL)? Scoring is 1/sack, 2/INT, 2/FR, 2/blocked punt, 2/safety, 6/TD, and points for points allowed.
I like both a lot but will say Denver. They should have good success against Charlie Frye.
A few more questions:1. Does the recent news of STL suffering from H1N1 change your pick at all?

2. Also, Foster (@STL) or Charles (vs. CLE)?

3. Finally, someone (strangely!) made Kaeding available in my other league. I have Gostkowski but am a little wary of the weather in the NE-BUF game. Kaeding should be at least as good, but without the risk, right?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks again!

Hey, Jeff.

12 team PPR scoring dynasty league

Start QB / 1-2 RB / 2-3 WR / TE

My roster with who I know I'm starting this week in bold:

QBs: Rivers, Garrard, Freeman

RBs: Chris Johnson, Peterson (Min), Scott

WRs: Boldin, Bowe, Steve Smith (Car), Floyd, Harvin, Holmes, Massaquoi, Schilens

TEs: Witten, Shockey, Cook

Quandry at WR2 this week in my playoff matchup with my options and my thoughts below.

Steve Smith: I love him but but the fantasy gods are really against him and I just don't trust him enough with either Moore or Delhomme to start him.

Harvin: I was ready to plug him him but he seems very questionable again this week.

Holmes: Leaning towards him but the Bengals do a pretty good job against opposing WR1s.

Bowe: I'm intrigued and like his matchup against the Browns pass D, but despite some positive reports from practice this week, I'm concerned about starting him his first week back from suspension.

I'm leaning towards Holmes as the safest start but I'm getting tempted to roll with Bowe.

Thoughts?

No problem on the questions. Happy to help. I still like DEN def/st I like HOU, too, but DEN should have a good game as well and higher upside. At RB, I would stick with Charles. He has been scoring well and this is a good matchup. I would go with Kaeding. He has been solid all season while the weather is troubling in BUF this week. Good luck.
