Hi Jeff, I've been reading your excellent articles and was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I'm in a 14 team PPR League and we can keep 3 players, but only 1 at any position. My keepers are Chris Johnson, Fitz and P. Manning so I'm in pretty good shape. Another manager wants CJ and has offered picks 5, 24 and 33 to get him. Looking at who is likely to be kept, I think these picks would net me something like Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings and Jahvid Best (or another WR like Sidney Rice). We start 2RBs and 3WRs with a flex.

Am I nuts to consider this? We have to declare our keepers soon and I'm a little concerned about a potential holdout, as well as the fact that I don't think CJ reaches the giddy heights of 2009 again.

For the coming year, having Fitz, Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings and say Sidney Rice in a 14 team league would be awesome. The downside would be only being allowed to keep one of them .

Thank you for the kind words. Feel free to ask anything in this thread. The deal is tempting. I would pass for one simple reason. In a 14-team league, you would be behind at RB. Having Johnson helps your team because you have a stud while most teams are struggling to find one decent back to keep. You should be able to find WRs easier than RBs in a 14 teamer.You have a great nucleus, I would not mess with it unless getting another very good ball carrier.

Two follow-up questions if I may:1) There is a slim possibility that I could trade CJ and my 5th round pick (#70 overall) for Peterson and a 3rd rounder (29) overall. Is Peterson close enough in value to CJ to consider this?2) If I stand pat, my first actual pick is at 43, then I don't pick again until 70 and 71. With a starting line-up of QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, RB/WR/TE flex, which position would you target? As there is depth at WR, I was thinking to go RB but the pickings are slim there unless a McCoy or Best falls. WRs available should include Crabtree and Nicks, but Gates at TE might actually be the best value of all.BTW, nice to see Joshua 24:15 quoted on the site.

I do not see the ADP trade as that helpful. The difference in players for those picks involved is not that huge. I think i would look at WR or RB at 43, best player available. If going WR, you can hodgepodge RB2/3 if need be. This is why I think it is important to have a strong RB1 in big leagues. If McCoy/Best are gone, and there is no one you like, wait on the Hightower, Barber, etc group. I also like Mike Bush and Forsett as great RB3 prospects. Each could be PPR starters this year. At WR, I would consider looking at Chambers, Gaffney, and Massaquoi late. One thought in PPR redrafts this year is how to acquire the Welker/Edelman combo. Edelman is a legit WR1/2 while Welker is out. Taking the pair is a great way to maximize value, knowing you will have at least one very good option most weeks. Of the rookie WRs, I think Mike Williams and Golden Tate make the most impact this year.

That is a fair deal. Only reason not to do the deal is if you think you can draft Tebow with the pick. I suspect the recent buzz will have him go earlier than a few weeks ago. I like the deal for you. Campbell has a real chance to outproduce McNabb

Hey, Brown is worth a ton more than Lynch right now. Addai is on the last year of his deal and likely will not be back in Indy for 2011. This year will determine what level of RB Indy brings in. If Brown plays well, maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder. If he does not, maybe a 1st or 2nd. I would look to buy Lynch on the cheap. If you cannot get him cheaply, wait it out. There is too much risk to give up something as good as Brown

Have not done this deal yet but was looking at our trade bait the 1.02 pick is up there for that team. What would you offer for the that pick. I was thinking that the 1.07, 2.06 & 2.11 would get me that pick but the dynasty trade calulator shows it to much in my favor but do not really know what to add to it. The team with the 1.02 pick needs every position but QB.

Hope all is well. I'm in the middle of a 16 team 0.5 ppr Dynasty startup. I'm drafting at the 7 spot and I'm trying to decide what to do with the 2.10. I took Rodgers at 1.07 so I'm set at QB. We start 3 WR and 2 RB with 1 Flex so I'm tempted to WR although I worry that if I don't take a RB now I may struggle to get a quality one.

Hey Don, if this was a 12 team league, I would say to take a WR because the RBs will fall. But, in a 16 teamer, QB/RB are so difficult to find. Take the RB you like best. Do not be afraid to load up on RBs if they are the best players left. There will be WRs who fall.

thanks. Managed to trade back 4 places and pick up a bump in a couple of the middle rounds. All the guys I mentioned were still there at 2.13 so I pulled the trigger on Matthews, even if he doesn't have a huge year I think he's got a pretty high floor.

So, it turned out well after all. I made a "what the hell" offer of 2.03 and 4.09 for Bernard Scott and 3.02.

It got accepted. I like Scott better than Gerhart, Dwyer, or Starks...the one round upgrade is just a bonus.

Since then, I have traded Jacoby Jones and IDP for Nicks, whilst I have traded the 1.02 overall for Jonathan Stewart. Key information

Either way I am upgrading RB depth, but in recent weeks have come to like Felix more than previously. Not to mention it helps to have more depth with 3 good young RBs. However, I am still a massive Wells fan. Not to mention the 2.09, which although isn't normally worth THAT much can help me improve my IDP immensely and still allow me to draft a QB in Whitehurst or Tebow.

You have a great group of rb/wr. I like the deal consolidating players. You get a bigger upgrade than it appears. Wells is a top dyn rb. Whether you do this deal or not, I would look to add qb depth, even a cheap guy like Campbell or Garrard.

Thanks Jeff. Unfortunately QBs are sold at a premium and are much much harder to get, even over good young RBs like Stewart and Wells. Campbell is being held onto by a QB hoarder who is difficult to trade with when it comes to QBs, and the Garrard owner only has G and V Young, so he won't be moving anyone any time soon. Based on previous discussions though, I may be able to get Stafford for my 2011 1st round pick, Barber, Harrison, Jones and 2.06. Its a lot of parts but that would be my best shot at getting a young QB, thoug I still hesitate over Stafford. When it comes to QBs it comes down to overpaying and whether you are willing to do it. keep Palmer. That is way too much. I would take a chance on Tebow at2.09 if you do that deal and he is still there. How would Whitehurst cost? He will start games this year and would be a good guy to get cheap and stash. Also, I expect one of orlovsky &/or grossman to see action. Neither schaub or mcnabb is overly durable. Just thinking how to get cheap qb depth if you have the roster space

That would leave me with starters, if I did the trade and Smith wasn't back to start the season, of Nicks and Harvin or Floyd, depending on where Jackson is.

We've been going round and round and I want to make something work, but I'm afraid I'm loosing my perspective on this.

Hey, I like Colston and Miller. I like the value for you mainly because of Ward's age and I am not a huge McCoy fan. Miller is more than serviceable, as is Cooley/Davis. Colston is worth more than McCoy in PPR, and Miller/Ward are fairly equal.

Campbell is being held onto by a QB hoarder who is difficult to trade with when it comes to QBs, and the Garrard owner only has G and V Young, so he won't be moving anyone any time soon. Based on previous discussions though, I may be able to get Stafford for my 2011 1st round pick, Barber, Harrison, Jones and 2.06. Its a lot of parts but that would be my best shot at getting a young QB, thoug I still hesitate over Stafford. When it comes to QBs it comes down to overpaying and whether you are willing to do it. I was indifferent on those guys. I have QB/WRs but 1st rounder on Gerhart was overpaying.

So I traded #7 for #12,13 pick on condition that he not take McCluster.

First off great work on the articles you do and the info you provide in this thread. I am looking for some feedback on a rebuild project that I am in the middle of. I took over a team that was a disaster and have made a lot of moves this offseason to try to change things.

12 team league, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR/TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. No PPR for RB, .5 PPR for WR and TE.

Here's the roster I started with.....

QB: Joe Flacco, Kevin Kolb, Jason Campbell, Matt Leinart

RB: Matt Forte, Laurence Maroney, Tim Hightower, Bernard Scott, Rashad Jennings

I have made around 20 deals since taking over the roster.

2011 picks: My own, plus 4 first round picks from the teams that had picks 1.03, 1.05, 1.07, 1.08 in the 2010 draft.

This league has 3 teams that are a clear cut above everyone else so I felt I needed to go for a different strategy. I felt I probably could have made this team into a playoff team in a year or so, but doing that would have always left me as just a low level playoff team with no chance of winning anything.

My team is pretty much a lock to have the 1.01 pick, and I can safely say that the other four picks will be in the 1.02-1.09 range, with a good chance that a couple end up as top 5 picks. My strategy is to wait until the draft next season when those picks are at their peak value and shop them for a combo of veteran talent as well as making some of the picks myself.

What are your thoughts on my overall progress?

I agree on the move to blow up the team. Your Rbs/WRs were not good enough to carry you. I think I would continue to acquire 1sts. I know I swim upstream on this but I think they gain in value the more you have. You can move around more. How many 2nds do you have? I ask because you have some players whom I would try to pair with a 2nd (esp if not yours) for a first. I would also keep one longshot QB just to hope to strike gold (for value). I am thinking of guys like Orlovsky, Thigpen, or Leftwich if available. Who are the best RB/WR on the waiver wire? Jeff

I don't have any 2nd's. I had a few, but I moved those in deals to get another 1st and to get Zack Miller. I think he has a Brent Celek like breakout this year and his value rises big time. There really is next to nothing on the waiver wire considering the rosters are pretty deep. Shawnbrey McNeal was the best RB I could find, and there isn't anything I can find receiver wise. I did make another trade yesterday, moving Sam Bradford and Legadu Naanee for Kenny Britt. I am not super high on Britt personally, but I felt he might make a better trading chip to try to acquire more 1st's with.

I would keep Johnson because of the price. How many years can you keep him? I would look to move Moss, esp since he has another year left on his deal. I think you can get a high pick or a great taxi player. How many can you keep?
