wannabee Strategy Thread (3 Viewers)

I am in a 12 team redraft league. here is my roster. would you drop any players to pick up bryant johnson or rod smith? baskett is also out there. I just grabbed roethlisberger, but could drop him. what about cotchery for smith? if i get b.jonson i'll have alot of week9 bye wrs. C Pennington D Brees B Roethlisberger A Green L Johnson D McAllister L Washington L Maroney J Norwood M Colston J Cotchery A Boldin R Brown M Muhammad T Gonzalez N Kaeding D Jets we start 1 qb, 2 rbs, 2 wrs, 1 flex-rb/wr/te, 1te, 1 k, 1 def
I would not consider dropping any player with exception of Ben. Even then, I would only pick up either BJohnson or Baskett. But, in all likelihood, neither will start a game for you. You have a very good team. If you want to take a chance on upside, pick up Baskett since Stallworth is doubtful this week. I suspect he might be out for a while. I am leary of BJohnson since he failed to produce last year while starting during Boldin's injury.

Wannabee.......What are your thoughts on the following trade?I give Fitzgerald, Laurence MaroneyI get Tatum Bell and Rex GrossmanI also picked up Bryant Johnston and could put him in the deal.I'm OK at RB (LT, Gore, T. Jones, Maroney)I'mOK at WR (CJ, Fitz, Driver, A. Bryant, Reggie Brown, Bryant J.)...eventhough CJ/Fitz have disappointed.QB has been a major issue for me (drafted T. Green, dropped him, picked up McNair, Favre, but after Favre's good weeks).Grossman would give me an upgrade. My opponent is weak at RB and might not trade Bell. I could put T. Jones in the deal, rather than Maroney. Bell hasn't scored at all, but might well have a strong rest of year.PPR league, 10 team, redraft. Standard 6pt TD scoring.
I think I stand pat, as tough as that might be. I would not give up your WRs in a PPR league. If you want to make an offer, I would suggest something like Maroney and Favre for Grossman and Tatum. I am assuming you start only one QB each week. if you start two, then you might have to part with a WR. But, your WRs will carry you late in the season.

hey wb...

I only have 1 roster question this week...thanks to bye weeks

Ronnie Brown @NYJ (Weak Run D)

Frank Gore v SD (Top D--Fumble Issues)

Reggie Bush v PHI (Tough D...but he catches a ton of balls and runs back punts)

I get 1 point per reception....Edge to Reggie Bush!

I am leaning towards sitting Gore, but I wanted your feedback!

Thanks again

WB, I'm in a 8 team 2 vet and 1 rookie keeper league. We start 3 rb's and

the scoring system for rb's: 8 pts per rushing/receiving td and 1 pt per

10 yds rushing/receiving. I was offered Fred Taylor for Jamal and Lendale White.

Current rb roster: LJ/SA/MBIII/Turner/Dillon/Jamal/Lendale/Michael Robinson.

With SA injury still being a point of concern and Jamal being a total mess at this

time, the deal essentially looks like Taylor for Lendale. Lendale could potentially

be my rookie keeper for next year but is Taylor's schedule too good to ignore?

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !

Looking for a second opinion on who to move. I currently have @ rb :TBellRBrownCWilliamsWDunnFGoreNo ppr, redraft. Our playoffs run 14-15-16. I'm thinking of moving Dunn and/or Williams. Thoughts? The rest of my team : Favre, Carr, Boldin, Driver, Glenn, Colston, Watson, DesClark. all tds 6pts, 1pt for 10ru/rec or 20 pass. Start 1qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1te. Thanks in advance!!
I would move Dunn not Caddy only because he is worth the same and Caddy has a better chance to contribute late in non-PPR. Dunn has not scored this year and Vick should make sure to limit Dunn's upside.
UPDATE :I have 2 offers on the table:#1I get Bulger & MBell I give WDunn and either Favre or Carr#2I get PManning, BJacobs & JHorn I give Favre, Dunn and BoldinABryant and LEvans are the best wrs on the ww.Do you think getting Manning over Bulger is worth the downgrade at wr from Boldin? I would site Gore only because of PPR. I see a huge week for Brown looking at how the Jets gave up huge points to the Jag RBs.

I would pass because I do not like giving White, much less AND Lewis, for Taylor in a TD heavy league. I do not think Taylor is a real strong play in your league. I do like the Jax schedule, but not at that price. I think I would prefer offering Lewis and Dillon for Taylor and a decent RB. I like White more for late in the season when the Titans are out of the race.

I do like option one a ton. I think Favre and Carr are very close to Bulger this year and Dunn is a decent option. And, for option two, I do not think you can afford the downgrade at wr. In most leagues, Carr has outscored Peyton and Favre has about the same production. But, in the end, I like option one better than two. If you do that deal, check the schedule to see which, GB or Hou, matches up best with St Louis'. I am not so sure that Peyton will outproduce Bulger, Carr, Favre by the difference of downgrade from Boldin to Horn. This is why I am against option two.

Hello Wannabee,

I need you to work your lineup magic for me. I'm playing a competitor this week who is in the running for the wild card with me. It's a huge game for bragging rights also. Which WRs would you start this week? I start three, no PPR and my roster is in the signature below.

1. Lee Evans at Detroit. I'm thinking this is a definite.

Who will be #2 and #3? Choices include:

Roy Williams home vs. Buffalo. Is he healthy enough to play? I think so, but who early reports were scary.

Bryant Johnson home vs. Chicago on MNF. I'm glad I picked him up because I have Fitz.

Derrick Mason home vs. Carolina. He's in a slump, but obviously more talented than this.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I like Evans and Roy for sure. Good thing this game is in the dome and not in Buffalo. I read where Roy practiced on Friday and should play. Now, for the last spot. I think I would go with Mason. I am afraid of what the Bear defense will do to Leinart and company. And, I think McNair/Mason will bounce back this week.

hey WB can you help me out alittle....im thinking i may be doing the wrong thing here.

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=280428
Ok. I read the deal:Turner, leon and 1st (from a 2-4 team) for Bush.

I think I know what I would advise, but would prefer to know the scoring before stepping out too far.

In case you do not have that kind of time, I would do that deal (definitely) in a PPR league. In a fractional PPR league, I would think it is a close deal and in a TD primary league, I would not do that deal.

Wannabee I've got a WW question for you.

I picked up A Smith (TE) as suggested and he came through for me. I also have Ben Watson...

Today I am torn....do I drop Watson and grab the Cards Defense? I already have the Broncos, but I thought it might be smater to have 2 options at Defense than at TE.

What do you guys think?

How about my SAINTS!!!!

I do not know if I have helped much. I would not pick up the AZ defense. I would still keep Watson, but probably look at rb or wr waiver options, just for the upside.I do not know what you have available, but I see the last spot on the roster as a high reward guy that can change every week if needed. Just a spot to take a chance with little cost. But, with Stover's bye this week, do you have another kicker? I, personally, like Scobee as a sleeper kicker for the rest of the year. Stover started off hot, but has had three straight poor games.

Hey Puddy, I had another thought. I would pick up the AZ defense for this week only against the Raiders. The Cardnials should be ticked off after last nite and might be a great play for this week only.

12 Team redraft league.

With my roster would you drop Washington or Norwood or NYJ Def for the Cards Def? In our league defense scoring is huge. for example bears scored 27pts last night and card scored 22.

2 of the top 3 scoring postions are Bears and Ravens and 3 of top 9 are def. I am inclined to roster all 3 def.

Also Herron is available; would you drop Washington or Norwood for Noah Herron.

we start 1qb, 2 rb, 2wr, 1te, 1flex-rb/wr/te, 1pk and 1 def

All 3 def are only mediocre on their own but they have favorable matchups on different weeks. no negative scoring for def.

DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 2 points

DTD - Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 6 points

Int - Interceptions 2 points

PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 6 PA = 8 points

7 - 13 PA = 6 points

I think it comes down to Washington or the Jets defense. I think I would dump the Jets defense. The AZ defense has a great matchup this week and could be huge in that scoring.

I'm leaning towards Watson? Smith scores TD's...

I don't want to drop the Broncos....

Watson's upcoming matchups = @Buf/@Min/vIND/vNYJ

Smith's = vPhi/@NYG/vNO/@Car

I'm sure somebody will pick Watson up on WW, but he hasn't been the "go-to"guy he was supposed to be for Brady

Defenses offer greater point possibilities than TE's

Whatcha think?

Hi Wannabee,

I posted this below in the AC, but of course, am not making a move without getting advice from you first.

With the news about Tiki Barber possibly retiring after next year, I have the chance to improve my team. This owner and I have had numerous discussions before but he always wanted too much. This new information is important because this team is in last place, so having Tiki on his roster is of less value to him. I'm thinking of bettering my WRs by offering:

Willis McGahee (or Ronnie Brown) and Derrick Mason

For

Tiki Barber and Terrell Owens (or Randy Moss)

Is this a smart move? Which combination of players should I keep and pursue? My team is in the signature below. No PPR and bonus points are award for long TDs.

Or should I just sit tight because my team is good enough, so it's not worth depleting my RBs to improve my WRs? Keeping in mind that this is a dynasty league and Tiki very likely could be done after this year.

Thanks.

I think you have to choose one TE to drop for the AZ defense. I think it is a toss up. But, I also think Watson offers more upside. These last two weeks are probably the best two weeks a Smith owner will see.

I think it is a GREAT move to:give Willis and Masonandget Tiki and TO

I'm in a keeper league, carry over 6 players, combo scoring 1pt per 10 rush/rec no PPR. My team:

QB Vick, Kitna

RB LT, LJ, SJax, Turner, Drew-Jones

WR R.Moss, Williamson, Mason, McCardell, Furrey

TE Cooley, Crumpler

I'm currently 2-4, won last two, and defending champs. My WR's aren't very good this year. No one is interested in Turner or Jones so looks like one of my big three need to go. LT stays but....

1. Between SJackson or LJ which one would you trade?

2. Targeting owner with Boldin & Bush for LJ (or Sjax) may throw in Jones-Drew - would you do it?

3. Owner with S.Smith/Holt willing to trade one-for-one for LJ - I think LJ is worth more

I'm leaning heavily on LJ/MDJ for Bush/Boldin. But torn on SJax or LJ.

I prefer keeping LJ longterm to SJax just due to TDs. But, LJ is worth more, so I would probably trade him just because he holds SO much value. In no PPR, I do not think that any of those deals are great for you. Boldin and Bush are gold in PPR, but neither score enough TDs to make it worth losing a STUD rb. I still might pursue the Smith/Holt owner about a SJax/Mason for Smith and a "decent RB worth a tad more than Mason. Or substitue LJ for Sjax for an upgrade at RB from his team.

Hey WB! Ive been doing a ton of trading recently and I wanted to get your thoughts on if I should stand pat or keep looking...my league is very passive, so its been tough for me to stand pat...here are my most recent trades:

Acquired KJ, Gore, R Brown for Tomlinson- sucked but I desperately needed RB2 and WR2/3 help at the time...would probablsy take this one back if I knew I could get S. Smith (see below) so cheaply

Acquired Balt DEF for Cotchery

Acquired Cotchery ( :lmao: ) and S. Smith for Berrian, Branch, and A Green

Here's my NEW TEAM (2QB, 2RB, 3WR):

QB- Hass, Roeth, Smith

RB- Gore, K Jones, Dillon, J Lewis

WR- Harrison, R Brown, S. Smith, R Moss, Cotchery, Br. Johnson (FA)

DEF- Balt, Ari (picked them up off of WW for this week)

Scoring

Passing- 1pt/25yds, 4 pts/TD

Rush/Rec- 1pt/10yds, 6 pts/TD

Im set at WR, and my RB starters are solid. The only upgrades I feel I could make would be at QB 2 (Smith/Roeth should be great playing matchups though, dont you think?) and then possibly acquiring more RB depth...what do you think?

I would hang tight on the QBs. You can play Hass each week, and play match ups on the other two. I think you will be fine with your RBs after this week when you have two one bye. I would not worry about your RBs right now, except for injuries. One thing I might try is Lewis and a WR (Brown) for Maroney and a WR toss in. Losing the WR would not hurt, but having both NE RBs would be great.

I can do this deal if I give up 1 of my 4 first round picks. It likely will be a mid to late round pick. But with the dilution from our college draft it's actually worse than that. I think I have to do this do even with Tiki retiring and TO being TO, right?

Hi Wannabee, In a 4ptTD dynasty league, 1/2/3/1/1/1 lineup, what WRs do you think are roughly comparable in value to Vince Young?

I think it all depends on the needs of the teams. But, in general, I would say Matt Jones, Glenn, Mark Clayton, and Branch. These are just generalizations but I hope this helps. I think Young is showing that he is a decent dynasty QB.

I would not do that at all. I LOVE Holt, but that is a horrible deal for you, imo. The only way I do that deal is if he would take Lewis instead of Taylor/Willis. I just do not see Holt as a huge upgrade over Walker, especially at the cost of a top 20 RB.

I'm thinking of bettering my WRs by offering:Willis McGahee (or Ronnie Brown) and Derrick MasonFor Tiki Barber and Terrell Owens (or Randy Moss)Is this a smart move? Which combination of players should I keep and pursue? My team is in the signature below. No PPR and bonus points are award for long TDs.Or should I just sit tight because my team is good enough, so it's not worth depleting my RBs to improve my WRs? Keeping in mind that this is a dynasty league and Tiki very likely could be done after this year.Thanks.
I think it is a GREAT move to:give Willis and Masonandget Tiki and TO
I can do this deal if I give up 1 of my 4 first round picks. It likely will be a mid to late round pick. But with the dilution from our college draft it's actually worse than that. I think I have to do this do even with Tiki retiring and TO being TO, right?
I would still do that deal if the pick is pick 1.06 or after (projected). That is a smoking deal for you.

Hi Wannabee,I posted this below in the AC, but of course, am not making a move without getting advice from you first. With the news about Tiki Barber possibly retiring after next year, I have the chance to improve my team. Sweet. That pick is probably in the 1.08-1.10 vicinity at best. Thanks for your help. I'm going to pull the trigger right now.

I would start all but Braylon. he will get matched up on by Champ Bailey who should shut him down. On the TEs, I would go with Watson. Also, look for Smith to do better if Becht is not playing. Having the only other TE option injured helps Smith. But, I would still go with Watson for this week with the Pats coming off of bye.

In a PPR, you HAVE to play Brown vs GB and Westbrook no matter who the Eagles play as long as he is healthy. In addition, I think you should go with Bell vs the Browns. Housh and Driver are the WRs I would choose. The Giants will make life difficult on MNF.I would lean toward Cincy defense.

TE Choices

Ben Watson @ BUF

or

Alex Smith v Philly???

Watson hasn't seen the endzone yet....Smith has scored a TD a week since Gradkowski started.

Stick with the hot hand and start Smith or

roll with Watson????

THANKS :D

Hi Wannabee,

I have a big picture strategy question. I've got a young team (except for the newly acquired Tiki Barber and Terrell Owens), a college roster with solid RB prospects, and 3 first round draft picks (2 of which should be top 5--even with the college dilution they have value).

My team (in sig below) has had some bad luck (every opponent goes off against me) and I'm currently 3-4 after a tough loss this week (unless Tiki and TO have record games). My playoff chances are realistically dwindling as I'm 2 games back from the wild card and 4 games back from the divisional lead.

So here's my dilemna. What do I now do with Tiki and TO? I know I just acquired them and was banking on Tiki and TO helping me to the playoffs, but I'm getting the sense this just isn't my season. I'd want to get value out of at least Tiki. But maybe I should couple him with TO to get another RB (though I'm pretty deep there and it might not be worth it unless I can get LT). So I think I have 3 options:

Option 1: Trade Tiki and TO for a young top 10 RB or WR. Cadillac Williams or Clinton Portis or Reggie Bush owners have expressed interest and are in better shape than me for a playoff spot. Basically if I trade TO I'd be assuming that TO's value in winding down in a dynasty league and that he can't be a top WR anymore. Or that it is more valuable to have a top RB than a top WR like TO on my team (we start 3 RBs and 3 WRs).

Option 2: Trade only Tiki for a young RB/draft pick. For example, Maurice Jones-Drew and a draft pick. If TO could be a top WR for the next 2-3 years then I should probably keep him instead of trading him and Tiki for a top-10 RB, right?

Option 3: Do not trade either because I could win the rest of my games and make the playoffs. That's probably what I'd have to do based on the teams who won this week in my league. I'd say there's only a 5% chance of that happening, but maybe I'm pulling the plug too prematurely.

I know I just traded McGahee for Tiki and TO, but I'm leaning toward option #1 because I'm almost out of it and I think I'm just frustrated with seeing my good team lose most of it's games. Which option do you think is most prudent to pursue?

Thanks,

Gandalf

PS I can't believe I'm 3-4 with this team!!

Sorry I did not get to this in time. I liked Watson coming off of bye, especially with Daniel Graham out this week. I tried to warn against Smith earlier. I just do not like the guy. Maybe it is just me.

TO prob has 2-3 more years left. I think you are best off still with the trading away of Willis. I would look at trading Tiki only if I could get a RB like Norwood or DWilliams and a decent pick or college player. You still have decent RBs to make a run.Now to option 1. I would do it if I could get Portis or Bush (PPR, iirc). I think this is a no brainer. This is a cheap price for a top 5 player in dynasty. I would stay FAR away from Caddy. This would be my top option with the one above as my second best option.

The key will be how you play this. Do not let anyone smell desperation or a fire sale. This will discount the price they are willing to pay.

Hope this helps.

Helpful, as always. I've got feelers out with the Portis and Bush owners. Interestingly these owners play in the same division and are competing for a playoff spot. And they need WR help badly. I'm not going to play them off each other because I don't like doing that, but they are pretty savvy and know that I will be looking for top RBs, which they both have. This could play out nicely for me. The key is like you said, be cool. Thanks for reducing my level of desperation-it was the shock of losing this week (I was Alge Crumpler-ed today). I'll be able to keep things under control. After all, even if I keep Tiki/TO, I could make a solid run for this year. And I agree with you that TO should have 2-3 more productive years left--he's in awesome shape still physicially. Thanks for all of your help.

Hey WB...

I am going to drop A Smith and grab another QB....

I have Leinart and Grossman which equals crap!

So.....on the WW are Big Ben (or do I grab Charlie Batch) is Ben going to play next week???

Losman-Huard-BJohnson-Harrington.....

woe is me!

I was leaning towards Big Ben but now its a wait and see on his concussion

Thanks for listening to this sad tale of QB's :bag:

So far, I'm still waiting on the Portis deal. The Reggie Bush owner declined, noting "Tiki is retiring and TO is too unpredictable." Just curious, why stay FAR away from Caddy in a dynasty league? Do you think Tampa's issues are more him or do you see the problems taking years to fix? What about Julius Jones for Tiki and TO? The owner who has JJ is fighting for the wild card spot in our league he might bite.Regarding option #2. As a backup plan, which of the following do you prefer, Tiki Barber for:1. Maurice Jones-Drew and a late 1st round pick 2. Leon Washington and a late 1st round pick3. Jerius Norwood and a late 1st round pick4. Marion Barber III and mid to late 1st round pickThere's also another angle I thought of... I could trade Tiki and TO for a better WR in a dynasty format. Say someone along the lines of Torry Holt, Steve Smith, Andre Johnson? Where would this plan fall in the spectrum of choices? Thanks.

Leinart and Grossman will bounce back and be fine. I think both will definitely be startable the rest of the season.

A few GREAT choices here. Personally there are some choices that jump out to me. In order, I would choose:a. Steve Smith for Tiki and TO. This would be a huge deal trading, in essence, WilLis and a late 1st for Smith. This is a HUGE deal for you if possibleb. Same goes for Holt. I like Smith a little more, but Holt is a great option.c. Norwood and the pick. Dunn will be 32 years old in January.d. MBarber and the pick. Barber is playing well and Julius is not exactly a bastian of good health.e. Drew and the pick. Many are higher on Drew than I am, but he looks to be a strong PPR option. The options c, d, and e are good options and make the trade for Tiki and TO a great one. It would mean that you basically trade Willis for TO and a young RB prospect, assuming the picks wash or close).I think any of these choices are very good and still do not inhibit your chances at the title while allowing you to build for the future.FYI, if there was an initial dynasty PPR draft today, this is the approximate pick for all of the players mentioned which will help in deciphering my stuff above:Smith 1.12Holt 2.03Willis 2.10Tiki 4.05TO 3.12Barber 6.01Norwood 6.01Drew 6.01The young RBs would all depend on personal choice, but all three have tremendous upside.
