Just looking over his NFL career

he has missed a grand total of 1 game in 5 3/4 seasons.

2001 16 games 339/1236/10 plus 59/367/0

2002 16 games 372/1683/14 plus 79/489/1

2003 16 games 313/1645/13 plus 100/725/4

2004 15 games 339/1335/17 plus 53/441/1

2005 16 games 339/1462/18 plus 51/370/2

2006 12 games 258/1324/23 plus 51/470/3

he has never had less than 392 touches in a season and will get there again this year.. It is just amazing how many hits this guy takes and how healthy he has stayed..

I'll see if i can look up his college stats at TCU also

edited to say that the only game he missed was in week 17 in 2004 when the Bolts already had their playoff's locked up.. They sat LT2, Gates and Breese according to Maurile Tremblay

Hard to believe that with over 2000 touches the guy hasn't even sustained a moderately sprained ankle. Given his propensity to avoid big hits and stay healthy LT should be a gem for some time to come.

He's never missed a game due to injury. He was rested in week 17 two seasons ago (along with Brees and Gates) after the Chargers had clinched the division.

You just called a McGahee hit. Way to jinx the best player in the NFL.

to be nitpicky, LT2 has had his share of dings. Ribs, groin. He's managed to play through everything but he's not been 100% unscathed.

True, he's been banged up, but so have most RBs from time to time. He's too much of a gamer to have sat out, although he probably should have a few games last year in favor of Turner with that rib injury.

Curtis Martin type streak going here for LT2...

without doing the work.. i would guess that the average NFL starting running back plays about 14 games per year.

This year alone I can think of 10 guys who have missed (or will miss) more than 2 games.. Portis, KJ, DeShaun, Lamont, Shaun Alexander, McGahee, Westbrook. Ahman, Ronnie, Tatum

I know this is not a news flash but he'll surely break Emmitt Smith's record, one in which even Emmitt said the LT2 could.

this isn't specifically a scientific overivew.. but it seems that LT2 doesn't take the direct hits a lot of other backs do. He is so shifty and moves so well laterally that he doesn't have the head-on-collissions that other guys might..

This could actually be LJ's long term downfall..

Despite that he's a monster, LJ actually doesn't take a ton of head-on hits either. Guy is super elusive, quick, and fast for someone his size.

He should, as long as he continues to have the same injury luck that Emmitt had.
I'm not exactly sure I'd call it luck.
Yes, part of it is a running style that may mitigate some of the chance of injury. But with huge behemoth defenders tackling you nearly every play, there's no doubt that there's a ton of luck involved in not having your knee shredded in a dogpile.

I remembered reading an article early in LT's career where he talked about a conversation I believe he had with Emmitt where Emmitt gave him tips on how to take care of himself and extend his career. LT took apparently took it to heart and spends a lot of time in the trainers room/hot tub making sure nagging injuries get treated even if he could play through them. Emmitt's point was to start taking care of yourself while you're young because the injuries tend to compound over the years.

Emmitt stayed in shape and avioded the big hits with his spin and juke move. Emmitt never ever allowed the big hit, this is not luck this is skill. It's evident you didn't watch his games.

:goodposting: I remeber this also, it says a lot about LT2 and his disire to be successful.

I am playing against him in the playoffs in both of my leagues next week.

I really wouldn't mind if this did jinx him. In the first play, of the first drive, of the first quarter.

That would be nice to see. LT is every bit the class act Emmitt was, and in my opinion, he's a better RB.

When he had his groin injury in early in the 2004 season, I wish he had sat a game to get healthy. He was only playing like the 1st half of every game for the first 9 weeks of the season and Chatman was racking up all the 2nd half stats. He was scoring a TD every game so you couldn't really complain about his stats too much, but 50 yard + 1 TD days were pretty common those first 9 weeks.

LT finally rested in his Bye week in week 10 and then came back fully healthy and exploded and ended up the fantasy RB#3. Those first 9 weeks of the season he was underperforming though.

I'll disregard the sarcasm, as I did watch Emmitt play. Of course, he withstood much of the contact, as LT does. But in a fierce contact sport that there is undoubtedly a considerable amount of luck involved in not having some guy land wrongly on your leg.

part of what makes LJ great is that he runs over people.. LT2 doesn't do this but I've seen a number of times this year where LJ powers his way into the end-zone dragging guys with him
